Ah sorry I overlooked that. Honestly, yeah. I'd rather have something I like that's maybe stupid to buy ir whatever than just something you're "supposed to have" if you're at the point of spending tens of thousands.
Buy what you like will always ring true. Anyone arguing otherwise is coping to some degree.

>You realize you're asking this of a watch in which the entire dial is angled sideways for no reason right?
>>17942454
>It's not even convenient. Complete meme watch.

The concept makes sense if you think about it. Imagine you're driving and your hand is on the wheel the dial would be positioned vertically for an easy reading. The watch was initially designed for the priests to see time while keeping their hands on the desk.

The concept is the reading ergonomics, but the subdial is not ergonomical for some reason.

>> No.17942528

>>17942524
99% sure both of those are urban legends. Per Jack Forster
>Why the dial and the crown were positioned this way is anyone’s guess. For many years, watch enthusiasts and the enthusiast press believed that the watch had been intended as a so-called driver’s watch, and that the rotation of the dial to the right was meant to make the time easier to read with your hands on the steering wheel. It turns out that this is not the case, and I suppose we all ought to have suspected the story didn’t really hold up – for one thing, the original model from 1919 had the crown and dial rotated to the left, which means that the design certainly didn’t start out as a driver’s watch, unless Vacheron had decided for some reason to turn it into one in 1921. Eventually, Vacheron’s Christian Selmoni told us that there was in fact no evidence at all in Vacheron’s archives that the original version had ever been intended as a driver’s watch, demoting the notion that it had been to the status of urban legend (along with the idea that the design for the Cartier Crash was inspired by a watch destroyed in an automobile accident).

Are vintage (70s, early 80s) quarz seikos any good if you can get them for a good price? I don't have much experience, but I've been looking at King Quartz and Superior Quartz references. Are these things reliable if they're well taken care of? Since it's fairly hard to find info on some of these references, is it fairly safe to say that most of these use acrylic crystals? I don't get the whole "don't buy watches you like, wait until you can get your grail" mindset. Just because I bought a nice used Tank or whatever doesn't mean I'm now further away from affording a White Birch or Roman dial DJ. There's a certain level of financial security necessary before I'd make such a purchase, it's not just about having the money.

>> No.17943053

Analog I get.
Automatic, there is no point. You can get a Pagani design if that really matters to you and if you care about specs, and that's all I need to say about the point of getting a cheapo automatic.

It's just to combat this whole "watch journey" idea of watch collecting where you have to do it step by step from "entry level" onward to fully appreciate the journey or whatever. Fuck it. Beater + better beater + grail (beater) gang 4 lyfe.

Well, kind of if you need to save for those.
And if you don't need to, what's the point of getting a Tank.
Unless you wanted the Tank on top of your GS/Rolex regardless.
