I don’t know when it stopped being good, I just know I’ve ready many, many reviews of nuclear sillage and hours of performance, but after trying 3 different recently purchased bottles, it’s clear it has undergone the L’Oreal reformulation process rendering it utter trash.
People will shit on Sauvage because it’s popular, and it’s a much, much different scent than SBE, but I recommend it because it’s mass appealing, and has crazy good performance and sillage, like the original SBE formulation, which seems like it would suite your scenario well.

Not noseblindness either, my GF saw me do it, was freaked out and left the room, and came back around 30 min later and was like “Oh, I was worried I wasn’t gonna be able to breath but it’s fine” because it’s shit now.

Perfect for genuinely hot days without being a boring aquatic. I can wear it to the beach or the office. I wanted a citrus chypre like Eau Sauvage/Pour Monsieur but their price/performance ratio wasn't worth it to me. 1881 isn't a huge performer -- I treat it like an EDC. It doesn't project for long, but it does remain as a skin scent for hours: I could smell it, nose-on-skin, almost 10 hours later.

I've heard good things about Boucheron pH edt/edp too. 1881 is regarded as being very similar, but I'd read that Boucheron was more floral and formal, and wasn't great for truly hot days. Much, much better performance than 1881 by the sounds of it, and more of a real chypre. Def more of an "old man scent".

I'm not denying that, but people often get the wrong designers, somehow. There's some real quality designer shit out there, but usually there is one fragrance which inspires a "genre", and when you find that one, you realize it's the best and everything else is just knockoffs and iterations. It's all about testing (at a store), and you will quickly realize how many fragrances are really similar. The recent releases by anything L'Oreal-related have been composed of the same fucking chemicals in different ratios, for example. Just straight up forgettable trash. I just hope that this trend doesn't continue.

>>17943785
Jules got nothing to do with either. If you're worried about what people your age think, Jules is probably not for you. I always suggest wearing what you enjoy the most, because in the end, it's rarely about the fragrance, but the confidence it inspires.

Very based, especially for the price. Boucheron PH is great as well, and you probably also saw Lauder for Men, which is my favorite out of the three. Went through a bottle of Lauder for Men this year, felt great every morning. Despite being EdC conc., it actually outperforms 1881. Also, Lauder for Men is the "rare" spring/fall-rated fragrance, although it's actually the perfect 24/7/365 fragrance for "old man scent" enjoyers.

someone asked me to rate my blind buys in another thread, they came in today and yesterday — I’d like to hear about what you bros are smelling lately too

>Brioni EDP Intense
This is really great if you’re looking for something both masculine and fruity. Apple and citrus meld together to form a semi-sweet and also semi-sour character which is the main body of the scent. Someone on fragrantica described it as a sour apple candy which I partially agree with, but it is made much darker/richer/masculine/likable than that alone would imply since it has a dark woody base. I find it to be fun and pleasing but it won’t be something I wear often.

>Prada Luna Rossa Black
This is really sexual smelling to me. I get a large amount of vanilla/amber but it has some sort of herbal spices which meld into that very well. To be honest I almost find it a bit girly. But I still like smelling it a lot, and it isn’t so girly that I wouldn’t wear it. This is definitely something you put on in the evening. It is cuddly and attractive. Aphrodisiac for any gender.

>Drakkar Noir
Really soapy and clean. Put your nose right on a masculine deodorant and you will have this. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. I have smelled this before but never had a bottle myself. Honestly for the price I think everyone ITT should have this. Wearing this is easy and you can be confident in the quality. Most fragrances at this price smell like aquatic ethanol bombs but this is plain smooth and mature.

>Ferragamo Testa Di Moro
This reminds me of sitting in the back of my dad’s car, against the melting hot leather car seats, in the middle of summer going to the pool with my friends. The scent is extremely leather centric and I think it is a more hyper realistic leather than Tom Fords. Extremely happy. I think you have to pair this with a leather jacket. This is powerful and masculine. It will give you a very unique identity if you dress it well. I don’t know how else to describe it.

My wife was wearing Mon Guerlain. After the Sunday mass, the priest’s wife came to us to tell us that when we entered, the whole church was filled with a very beautiful scent. Sadly, the Le Beau series is tainted by some modern synthetic compound (emerged around 2015) that spoils it for me, because it smells bad to me. Other than that, looks pretty standard to me.

>>17944509
It's a combination. Bisch works for Givaudan, who develop new smelly molecules. When they have something, he has to put it into fragrances to sell that shit. Of course, he then composes the rest of the fragrance, so there is a good bit of skill involved, but there is certainly a good bit of industrial control involved as well.

>>17944630
I still prefer Demachy but he is good. Too bad his nose agrees to the modern synthetic compound. He has put it into Amyris Homme (Extrait), for example. Le Male in the original formulation was a masterpiece and it's a shame what's left of it. He made some proper crowdpleasers at his own house, so he's perfect for Dior. Designer fragrances, but with that extra touch that sets them apart, slightly higher priced, but not necessarily masstige niche priced (ignoring the privee line). As others have said, BR540 is among the most copied fragrances, that's how good it is.

I think I may actually be addicted to sampling due to my inability to commit to actually buying a bottle.. I'm searching for my "signature scent", and this search for my "signature scent" is how I justify trying out so much samples.. I just wanna smell really fucking milky and clean musky, really sterile like a dentists waiting room, a dentist waiting room in fucking SPACE.

When I discover something I love, I think..maybe I will find a fragrance that I like even more, so I should buy more samples instead of a bottle. I think why smell the same every day when you could smell completely different every day in the pursuit of finding a signature fragrance that you want to wear every single day.. I don't know what you could call this, postpostmodernism maybe. I'm also ordering samples of shit I've already sampled, gotta sample those samples...

I really want a girlfriend basically for the sole purpose that I need somebody to fucking smell me. I'm going to prank my future GF so hard by smelling really good but I will deny wearing fragrance and I'll gaslight her into thinking that it's just my natural scent.. I need to work out some kind of system where I can hide my samples and I can spray myself without her seeing me...

And now you are probably thinking, holy shit this anon is lost his mind, and yes...you are correct, I basically live to sample fragrances, it's very sad actually, but also kind of beautiful, it's what makes life worth living..

So far my favorite fragrances that I could actually see myself buying a bottle:
-Petite Matin
-Byredo Blanche
-Clean classic skin
-Baccarat Rouge EDP
-ELDO Ghost in the Shell

General sampling if you haven’t tried them, BR540 EDP and Extrait are no-brainers (I’d say Grand Soir if you’re an amber/vanilla fan, but I don’t think MFK lets you do that one in the 4-sets.)
Actual wearing maybe add Amyris Homme and one of the Aqua Cologne ones, no experience with that line though desu.

Where can I get Kilian Angels Share for a good discount, because I’m not paying $245 for a 1.7oz bottle and costco had it a few months ago for $117. Eberyhting on eBay looks fake as well.

Some Arab clone of that fragrance got a lot of hype this year

BR540 and Grand Soir because they're so hyped, but I can't decide the last two. Masculin Pluriel, Amyris Homme, GFS, or Oud Satin Mood?

Yes, I am making roughly 2500 net.
Yes, I am experiencing extreme inflation - around 20%, I live in the shithole that is known as Hungary.
So overall the situation is not bad, but the cost of using something like Amouage relatively frequently is still significant compared to my salary.

I just fork over the extra money and go with Ombre Nomade. (Better than Ombre Leather imo)
