>SOTD: Nasomatto Fantomas
weird frag (in a good way), there's a lot going on (melon, then smoke/gunpowder, then rubber, then sweet notes, cashmeran, etc.), the drydown reminds me of some amber frags from Nicolai (Amber Oud, Ambre Cashmere Intense, etc.)
good for winter as well (probably too much for hot summer days), office friendly if applied in moderation, the performance is very good

I said screw FragranceNet and bought from Jomashop instead. They have slightly less inventory and their pricing is somewhat competitive to FragranceNet but hopefully they don't have automatic flagging bullshit; coupled with the fact that FragNet ships via OnTrac which is worse than FedEx, nah
the frags I didn't find/don't exist on Jomashop I just got from eBay for like $2-3 more (and sometimes $3-5 less) than FragNet. Overall I paid a few dollars less on my $2k haul than I did with FragNet and actually picked up and extra cheap frag or two for the trouble

to treat myself well after overworking myself and treating/allowing myself to be treated like dogshit for the past 10 years. I was never the type to wear expensive colognes or buy expensive clothes but I lost 60lbs since the beginning of the year with another 60lbs to go so I figured since I hit the halfway mark and I fit in my old clothes again, I would go all out on myself and buy a bunch of pointless shit I've been wanting but putting for literal years. I started off choosing frags based on how they smelled and only used like 2-3 frags for 10 years then I got bit by the bug and wanted more so I started stocking up on frags based on how cheap they were and mostly how the bottles looked. Then I realized there was a whole world of high-end/luxury designer and niche frags that not only smelled good but also had cool bottles. I scoured a few YouTube channels and spent 2 weeks binging frag content, top 10/20/50 lists, top 2021/2022/2023 summer/winter frags, etc etc and compiled a list of frags that either I was really hyped to smell/smell like and/or interested me the most

I only ever bought perfumes from Lush because I always thought Lush has unique smells you can't find anywhere else (at least no mainstream).

Everyone from my friends to my moms village aunties already "know that I always smell nice" and apparently they can recognize me by "my personal smell" and I always got compliments.

Should I change anything about this or just continue with this? Am I living in some delusion?
PS: Lush kinda fell off with their quality recently and I hate the giant overhaul to their perfume line they had a few years ago

Jesus christ, this isn't Pokemon. You don't need to catch em' all. You collect fragrances like nerds collect funko pops.

Why are you like this? Did you have a traumatizing childhood? Is this learnt behavior some of kind of defense mechanism/survival strategy that you use as an attempt in order to fulfill some unfulfilled basic need? E.g. love/affection/autonomy?. If this is the case, maybe it would be a good idea to do some self-reflection and consider if there is a healthier/less self destructive way to achieve this. Like for the love of sweet baby Jesus, your collection is so bad it makes me question your sanity...

I'm not trying to be mean, I'm just interested in the psychology behind such behaviour.

I really like the scent of tom ford ombre leather but being 120 for 50ml, that's a bit too much for me. Really like the smokey scent tho.. Any cheaper version of this that I should try?

I also liked valentino uomo born in roma but maybe that's a bit too sexual/romantic for casual every day use? I'd bet girls would like it tho. Should I go for it?

Just tried YSL Y Le Parfum at a local retail shop after ordering a decant of it. The most wearable and grounded flanker of the Y line by far for me. I don’t understand why people prefer the EDP to this, it is much more balanced and masculine, it also has far more depth than any of the other flankers. To me, it feels like it is almost YSL’s take on ADG Profumo. People say it’s “mature” but anyone over 25 can easily pull this off. Anyone who likes Profumo will likely enjoy this. Easy 9/10 for me.

Has anyone grown tired of the notion of seasonality in frags? If you believed fragrantica, 90% of frags in existence couldn't be worn in summer. Most classic citrus/edcs got BTFO by the oakmoss ban. Much of what is left is blue, aquatic goop. I really doubt boomers in the 60s-80s were putting away all their powerhouse frags for the summer.

Something about it feels very... allergenic, an attempt to compromise with an era hostile to perfume. A worldview that is, imo, outdated in a new age where strong, synthetics like BR540 and gourmands are king.

Having a wardrobe for the occassions personal to oneself makes more sense to me. But of course, that is highly subjective and doesn't work with the data-driven, categories for category's sake, websites like fragrantica

Yeah he has, but I'd say the real exit began long before. The first stuff they released in the 00s were fantastic, but the releases are getting sloppier every year since. Can't imagine he himself had much of a hand in making anything even remotely modern from his brand.

It's a more interesting niche brand than 90% of crap sold in department houses. You've got correct intuition. The Smell of Weather Turning, Breath of God or Tank Battle are all excellent fragrances. I have the base version and it's actually suprisingly good. Aromatic, deep and a bit soapy. It stays too sweet as it dries down and if not for that I would be very happy with it. Hard to find anything really similar to it as well - smells maybe like a niche version of CK Euphoria Intense.
That being said - it's a meme brand and I still feel that I got got.

I finally got it. I’m officially a beginner fragfag now.
Any tips on using these, should I
> switch daily between them

>> No.17941963

After learning to enjoy my limited 100% cheaply gifted collection, I got interested in what the frag world has in store. At the same time, I am looking for a frag that I want to wear, but at the same time I'm interested in just smelling things. So far I have enjoyed my cheap ass collection at home just spraying it and trying to recognize the notes that I read are present on fragrantica, or just appreciating the smell. The collection, before I bought a bunch of decants today consisted of:
Jaguar For Men Evolution - this one is pretty cool actually, aromatic and citrusy and probably what you'd call a shower gel frag. The only frag that I wore outside and got a compliment for and the longevity is around 7-8 hours.
212 Carolina Herrera - used to hate this compared to my Jaguar frag, but have learned to appreciate it for what it is, which is like a sporty fresh scent. Used to think it just smells cheap, but it smells appropriate for summer outdoor kind of stuff, and loses the syntheticness on the dry down which is the part I disliked about it the most.
Hugo Boss Bottled Sport - this one begins as a nice sporty frag but the drydown just smells cheap as fuck. Just a bad one overall.
Calvin Klein Man - did dislike this one at first on the basis of me being too used to sporty or showergel type frags, but I have learned to love this one. Starts out really sweet and spicy, and dries down to this really really comfy spicy woody thing. The packaging for this one is just baffling, this smells like a comfy cottage house in which you have lit a fire up and cinnamon rolls in.
4711 - this is just a pleasant scent, prolly would not wear, but it's just so unambiguously pleasant and unhatable. very comfy.

Have a couple others which are really unremarkable, and one of which I can barely find on the internet, despite the nice scent and bottle. All of them are cheap as shit.

Will continue in next post, but to take this interest further, I have bought a couple of decants

to test out what actual scents that are commonly bought smell like. I've bought and tested the following so far:

Mont Blanc Legend Spirit - this one is so pleasant and clean, will prolly buy a 200ml bottle of this just for the office. Just love this shit
CK one - just smells unremarkable, with poor longevity too
CK Shock - this one is really fun smelling. no further thoughts on it, just a very fun smell.
Missoni Wave - smells nostalgically like soapy water you would blow bubbles with as a kid, which is pleasant, but I can't imagine wearing this as a scent due to such associations
Missoni Parfum Pour Homme - smells kinda elegant, dark and strong, but can't exactly see this as an everyday/casual use frag, or even an office frag, due to how strong it is even on the drydown. spraying it is borderline uncomfortably strong.

have no more spots on me to test out Versace Dylan Blue, which I have also bought a decant of.

My further plans are, buying more decants, as it's a nice way to satisfy the enjoying the smell of some frag I might not even want to wear without having a full bottle of it laying around, while simultaniously looking out for new frags to actually use. Hope to avoid falling into the trap of buying too many cheapies this way also. Interested in buying decants of the following next:

Luna Rossa Black
Afnan 9pm (very cheap)
D&B The One
Dior Homme Intense
Dior Fahrenheit
Terre D'Hermes
CK Be
Eros Flame
Davidof Cool Water

In most cases the smell alone indicates you where it's appropriate to wear. For dates you should be choosing a "pleasant" frag that invites your potential girlfriend to get close to you. Most sweet frags are great for this context.

That depends on your taste. Outside stuff allows you to wear louder frags. However, it won't be nice for everybody else if you wear a "clubby" frag in a formal event. You need to be more "subtle" there.
>Office
Avoid all heavy-sillage frags, or you'll choke everyone.
>Gym
Same as the office, but summer frags do a better job there since those are light and citrusy and evaporate quickly. Keep in mind whether your chosen frag "rots" with your sweat or body odour, or else your stench will kill someone.

That’s awesome. I’d label a bunch of cards or napkins or something and label them then give each 1 spray, let them dry down a bit and then sort them into likes & dislikes or tiers or ranked order. Then I’d take my favorites and start wearing each in the morning one at a time. I think spraying on my neck is the best way to judge a fragrance - because when smelling it constantly throughout the day, I can easily tell whether I enjoy it or am annoyed by it. Then for my least favorites I’d probably go through and put 1 on each wrist in the evening because I might like them more on my skin, and if I don’t I can easily wash them off and I don’t have to worry about wearing them out.

Tried dior Fahrenheit at a shop today. Loved it - It's got the same style as ombre leather, but inside my budget.

Should I go for it as a 20yo baby faced student who likes to dress well? Is it something that gets young girls at clubs and dates, or is it more for older guys? Apart from my appearance I have been told that I sound and seem very mature for my age tho

I have a roll-on of the oil right in front of me and TF oil sample in my collection.

While it definitely gets you in the ballpark, it almost entirely lacks the truffle note to my nose. The fruitier notes in the mid and base are fairly similar. Unfortunately, what I love about the Black Orchid is that it smells earthy and funky right off the top. I honestly wish, in both cases, that the truffle note would stick around longer.

To me, 24h has just a light note of something truffle-adjacent. But for the price? You can get a 10ml of 24h oil for less than 10$. It's worth a shot if you're curious.

Anon, what did you expect? You even said bought it for the memes? That’s what some frags are for.

I own both Tonnerre and Secretions Magnifiques. Tonnerre is for Halloween, Friday the 13ths (wearing all black) and other assorted “dark” applications.
Secretions is for handing to your buddies and saying “Hey smell this” as you spritz it onto their hand/wrist and laughing your ass off as they writhe.

Oh see, I guess I’ve never heard -that- particular meme before. I just assumed it was the fact it’s a SUPER heavy tarred wood smell.
I will say, to my nose, as soon as I spray it I get like ~1-2 min of this faintly aquatic scent, like you’re in the middle of the ocean, then you get fucking keelhauled (literally, look up the definition of being keelhauled) as your nose is assaulted with creosote and tar soaked timbers.

>>17942607
I’ll level with you Anon, I own it, but I JUST bought it… like a week or two ago during Black Friday. I haven’t actually opened it yet. I doubt it smells like either, and expect it to just smell obtusely “bad”.

Anon, it’s worth noting that Bianchi has a pretty distinct DNA, and -a lot- of her frags smell pretty similar. You can get some minor note differences, but between Etruscan Water, BK, and Sticky Fingers, they’re all pretty similar. Etruscan Water I think is her most well known/liked frag.

I do hope you enjoy it tho. I own EW and it great performance and a wonderful scent.

Congrats on your purchase Anon, a lot of people have already replied and given some good suggestions but I’ll toss in my 2 cents as well since I’ll finish up my ELDO discovery set next week.

Depending on how anal you are, or how much time you’re willing to invest, I personally went through and organized them from what I -thought- would be best to worst based on notes and accords.
This may seem daunting, but usually it’s not too hard to know if you don’t like - florals, for example, or fruit, or if you prefer spicy frags. I DO recommend using Profumo for this over Fragrantica though. Their scent classifications are a little more reliable. Fragrantica is better for reading up on individual notes though.

As >>17942160 said, if you have -good- things to spray the scents on, that works, but barring that you can do what I did and group them into 4’s, then do 1 GOOD spray (when it’s brand new, your prob gonna have 2-3 dry sprays, then one like half spray, before you get a good spray) 1 good spray near your left elbow, grab a different bottle and do one around your left wrist, then do two more in the same spots on your right arm. Set yourself a timer on your phone and watch a movie or some series and sniff your spots every 30 min or hour for 2-3 hours and WRITE YOUR THOUGHTS DOWN.

>>17941967
As far as bang for your buck goes, it’s pretty good desu. Most of the scents are pretty mid, at best, but the range of notes and accords is pretty wide, so for a newbie it’s a great discovery set.

Only note that I legitimately could not stand was the opium note (I assume opium) in Vi Et Armis, turned my stomach. I strongly dislike fruity scents, and do not care for ~most~ florals, but I can handle them.

>>17942067

You gotta keep in mind that leather is usually listed as a “note” but is actually created almost strictly through accords. It’s never a single thing they add to a frag to get a leather smell.
I also read a great point recently point out how so many very, very basic notes/accords can get many different interpretations. I can’t remember all the excellent examples they gave, but greens can be floral or vegetal or herby or woody. Even woody and floral can be broken down further and further, but leather, leather is almost always just “leather”. Done.
