ok retard. the science is pretty definitive that having your toes splayed naturally rather than conform to a modern shoe shape restores natural alignment and balance, reduces the risk of bunions, hammertoes, or overlapping toes, better foot strength improved circulation and more comfort. you dismissing something as reddit or npc based on nothing is legit retarded.

No it's not, flat feet are not flixable, it's a genetic trait.
You can just work on the flexibility and consciouscly flexing your mini arch but as soon as you don't think about flexing, it will collapse. Flat feet are only fixable by surgery.
You should hide those stompers inside proper shoes hiding their deformity.

Walk barefoot as often as you can.
Wear minimalist shoes when you don't have to look presentable.
Work out in minimalist shoes.
Try to find minimalist shoes that don't look super goofy. Lems Boulder Boot, ZAQQ qampion, vivo ra.
Try to find conventional shoes that do not violate all three rules: wide toe box, flexible sole, no heel drop. Chucks for example have no heel drop.
Wear conventional shoes when you have to look good and don't move a lot. 8 hours of sitting in the office won't deform your feet much.
Try to space out events where you have to both look good and also have to put pressure on your feet.

you're not mentioning any of the physical therapy that the shoes are an appendage of, and I think that explains the anger against barefoot shoes I see ITT.

barefoot shoes simply don't become comfortable to walk in until you start addressing the issues that brought you to them in the first place, which are of course no longer issues solely with your feet by this point, but whole-body structural issues.

barefoot shoes are not a solution, they are a tool you use in conjunction with other tools to achieve health.

There's two kinds of flat feet. One kind is caused by bone deformity or fusing, which is incurable except by surgery. The other kind called "flexible flatfoot" has multiple causes. Some of those subtypes are curable with exercise alone. I am one of those people who was flatfooted until college, then did physical therapy (stretching and exercises) and now have a regular arched foot. It only took about a month of concentrated effort before it set in and I didn't have to walk "manually" anymore. In my case I had no physical deformity at all, I was just walking with a flat foot by ignorance. I think it was related to autism and a lack of interest or natural self-reflection regarding my own gait.

Some of my toes are in slightly different positions and my toe bones have visible bone growth on them like some kind of bony veiny fingers of some old man. My life would unironically be 50% better if I had natural feet and I would barely have any problems at life, those toe problems from bad shoes are suicide fuel for me, I don't pay attention to them now and I do the barefoot healthy things but when I think about them those bad feelings I feel towards my body always come back. Maybe one day my toes will get more stable and they will get back in place where they were supposed to be, I will forever have bony feet but if they will be in normal position then maybe I can live life without killing myself some day

So, I'm not a medical professional so don't take this as gospel, but as I understand it, collapsed arches are very often related to having inwardly pointing knees (knock knees but not necessarily as pronounced looking), which is related to an inward rotation of the femur at the hip. Conor Harris on YouTube explains it all pretty well. Basically, if you want to unfuck your feet, you often also have to unfuck your knees and hips.

I don't think feet have an impact on rib thickness, but bad posture will absolutely mess up your ribcage, look up "rib flare". I actually dunno about the hip-ribcage connection so maybe I got going too fast there.

>Basically, if you want to unfuck your feet, you often also have to unfuck your knees and hips.
I already stretch my hips but it would be good to do some knee exercises, like I avoid doing squats but maybe I'll do something special to strengthen my ankle and knees and have more functional legs, like right now my ankle hurts after a walk. I'll check those videos out, thanks fren. Hopefully it'll get better. I wish one day I would have a body that doesn't hurt at all and moves naturally and freely
>rib flare
I did exercises for that too and it's mostly gone but it's one of those things that never 100% goes away, I have to force my ribs back in place sometimes and it makes this disgusting noise when I do it and it hurts for a while but thankfully it's mostly gone at least. I wouldn't be surprised if my ribs are thin because of all my unnatural movements and bad posture
I'll proceed to worship your words, I already knew those things because I'm interested in them but thank you so much for reminding me to do those things

Watch youtube videos and shorts about this topic, you have to see for yourself. You have to push your ribs into your stomach and flex your abs while pushing those ribs inside with your muscles and flex your glutes (ass) to have that better posture and stability. Watch a youtube video that explains rib flare better. Also you can massage your abs, really squeeze those muscles all over, especially near that pelvis bone and push your fingers in it until it hurts to stretch those tendons and also train your abs a little. You can do proper planks while pushing in those ribs like explained in those videos. You need to fully activate your core. Once a guy noticed my rib flare was gone and he was amazed because he's into this stuff too. Just don't get lazy or it will come back sometimes and it's annoying, you have to walk every day or every 2 days, if you lay in your bed all day or something then all your posture problems will start coming back after some time sadly and you will have to get your movement ability back, your body needs to get stronger or it will get muscle atrophy
>someday medical technology will have progressed to where everyone can have qtpa2t boifeet

Mine are even wider than this. I live in one of those cities where trendwatchers come to take photos of us just minding our business, going on about our lives, and turn whatever random shit to wear while we take out our trash into worldwide fashion trends. Eg. we turned Birkenstocks into something accepted on people who don't identify as grandmas. So don't worry /fa/, healthy shoes with enough space for toes and a hard sole are going to be in fashion soon. Bespoke shoes aren't necessarily expensive btw, so also look into finding a shoemaker.

Alright, this one is a weird one. Have a family member who is in extreme pain when standing, and it is NOT plantar fasciitis, three doctors have agreed with that. But they haven't given a diagnosis other than one said "tight tendons" and no stretches. Paid out for custom expensive orthodontics and it just delays the pain, but it eventually comes in and is described as "torturous." They haven't been able to stand or walk large amounts since a young age. What stretches should we be pursuing, and should a neurologist be next?

you may get some pain as you walk in them, but it should be maybe a little soreness, not anything sharp, intense, or a limit in motion.

one of the ways that tendons strengthen is by being loaded in a stretched position, and barefoot shoes/barefoot maximizes that position as you walk (less/no heel rise), so over time they should get stronger.

not a medical professional yet (student tho) and that makes sense if you try it. your feet flatten as you point your knees inward. that, coupled with shoes that don't require high activation the intrinsic muscles of your foot, they begin to atrophy, and your arch goes with it

>Basically, if you want to unfuck your feet, you often also have to unfuck your knees and hips.
100%. the foot follows the knee and hip, and the knee and hip follow the foot. Wrecked alignment there can even lead to neck and/or jaw issues, it's pretty gnarly.

king of the thread. in moderation and progression, they may help alone if your issue is primarily at the lower body, but even then, at least occasionally doing strengthening and/or stretching exercises in problem areas combined with minimalist footwear for correction of walking mechanics and endurance building is the ideal way to go.

Hard to see, but I believe these flats are stitched-down, too. From Drifter leather

It's also possible to wear sandals with thick wool socks. I do it at work. Max comfy. Warm, dry, full toe splay.

is it possible to fix a bunion in the early stages without surgery?

I don't know about outright fixing, but the bunion on my right foot has certainly got better the last eight months I've worn barefoot shoes. No idea if it will actually be completely gone.

>You have to ease yourself into barefoot shoes just like any other novel exercise. Your foot muscles have atrophied and need to be built up.

This 100%. When I initially started (about 5 months in), I went a little overboard trying to wear them to work, and had some knee fatigue. Shortening my step length, walking softer, and of course time improved this, as the feet and calves are going to adapt and strengthen over this period. I haven't felt it since.

I have a few whitins, and while they're not as good as my vivobarefoots, they're like 1/3 the price.
I wear them out in about 8 months, then they become beach shoes.

Some Whitins have been said to not have a wide toebox, and these look like one of the models that have a more narrow toebox

I've started with whitins and they've definitely challenged my feet and adaptation to barefoot shoes, they're even better with the insole out once you're ready to do so, IMO
- I have two pairs of these, and the toe box is wide https://www.amazon.com/WHITIN-Barefoot-Sneakers-Minimalist-Breathable/dp/B0BRN1GMXX/ref=sr_1_9?crid=2YD1LM19BM0IR&keywords=whitin%2Bshoes&qid=1704334293&sprefix=whitin%2Bshoe%2Caps%2C118&sr=8-9&th=1

This is my other pair of wide toes, which is what got me suspicious of the whitins. Maybe my feet are just slim though because I feel there is lots of room in both pairs

I just bought a pair of these. I have big stupid clown feet and I am tired of pretending I don't. That and I have been working from home bare foot for the last year and a half and my feet have gotten real W I D E.
