There are devices that can measure the hardness of the crystal and you can then deduct what kind of crystal it is but i doubt he has one.

Currently considering a Patek annual calendar, Patek world timer, Zeitwerk, Datograph, 1815 chrono, or JLC duometre (way cheaper). Any other suggestions? I am reluctant to go over $90k.

The Lange and JLC are head and shoulders above all the rest. The Cartier is nice and uses a Piaget 430 ultra thin movement but is too big for a rectangular watch. It was made before Cartier had their watchmaking renaissance. I have considered trading it in for a modern LC that is more appropriately sized, as is it is just collecting dust unfortunately. Also the movement is delicate and gets fucked up if you look at it wrong.

Yes. I have. Obviously, you do take some losses, but if you made smart purchases to begin with it’s not so bad.
If you only buy second hand you can usually sell a watch for what you paid.

New San Shartin arrived,overall,very good finishing,got it at AliExpress black friday sales. Second watch from the brand,the other being a Seiko 62MAS homage with sellita movement. Cartiers, Rolexes, Omegas, Breitlings have always been reliable in terms of holding their value over time once the initial depreciation has hit.
I took a beating trying to sell Nomos, Zeniths, and Grand Seikos.
JLCs usually hold their value but are really slow to sell.

But regarding the age, it doesn’t have to be older than 10 years. Prices tend to settle down after only about a year or two for most watches

There's definitely nothing wrong with consolidating, and all of your future watches are excellent choices in their own right. Keep the ones you wear the most, sell the ones you don't, and see what takes your fancy. There's a lot on the grey market, especially in that price range up to 90k; the only thing I might advise is to wait another 6 months; the cooldown from Covid watchbuying is still going on, so prices may come down even more.
