Well it is kinda important, Casio had a shit ton of watches called Marlin and without the hecking fish MDV-107 look like a really cheap Rolex cope. Anyway, differences:

MDV-107 has a stainless steel band instead of a resin strap, it's heavier than the older one, slightly different case size but barely noticeable. Indecies are the same. The biggest difference is color choices on the bezel and no fish on the dial or caseback.

There is no one watch that would make me happy any more than one pair of shoes would.
I'm in a pretty good place right now and don't find my attention wandering too much, but I might trade my Reverso and Piaget for a VC Trad in white gold.

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a new watch. First time posting here. I want something mostly black/dark grey, and with matte silver details. Idk what the main portion of the watch is called, like, the piece that all the arrows are on top of, it should be a darker colour but not entirely black. I'd love some suggestions.

Could you guys help me out?

Dress watches aren't expected to have big WR ratings, precisely because the expectation is to only wear them as a dress watch. They can survive a splash or two, but in theory you should even take most of them off while you wash your hands. Some form factors such as Tank or Reverso shapes, they have been optimized in design, so there is very little room to actually waterproof them without making them dummy thick.

You're wrong. Most dress watches (especially modern ones) are water resistant as long as the crown isn't pulled out. You could dunk a Reverso or a Tank in water and see them working.
They can't endure shock and pressure though.

Yeah, they are very reactive to moisture and if one of the seals in the watch fails the wood dial might rot, mold, crack and warp. I can't even imagine getting a wood watch wet and it to start rotting after a couple of days.

There are some pure class Rolexes like pic rel. That 1970s finish on the center links combined with a wood dial fucks hard.

Yeah, I should have clarified that those handwashing comments were towards vintage dress watches. You are correct, modern dress watches can survive being dunked, vintage ones on the other hand, Maybe I'd trust them after a full modern re-seal.

I do think that people tend to like bigger watches. Like I was very interested in the 38mm 16570 but compared to a modern Maxi case which is 42mm it does feel small. Same goes for the Tudor 39, it feels small and that's probably why people get tired of it after a while. Same issue with the DJ line, the 36 just feels too small for me, if I see like more than 4 links I feel its too small.

If I already own a DJ36, and let's be honest anyone who has a decent parent already own one of is having one passed down to them, I wouldn't get a DJ41. Same goes for the Explorer II, if I have the 38mm there's no reason for me to get the 42mm.

We can only speculate what their influence is but a lot of their higher tier brands (Breguet, Blancpain, Glashutte Original, Omega, and maybe Jaque Droz) are in pretty bad slumps. Sales-wise I don't know how they're doing but I haven't seen a recent release from any of these brands that are tempting. Compare that with Richemont where Lange, JLC, and Vacheron are still releasing insane watches multiple times a year.

Then again I know Tissot and Longines are massive money makers but I'm guessing Swatch corporate prioritizes the wellbeings of those companies far over these more niche brands. They tried to do something with the Blancpain anniversary and fell flat on their face with the $32k joke watch.

>> No.17917804

You're right that Richemont is knocking it out of the park lately, but Swatch is mass market (literally like Rolex). Aside from Breguet they aren't high end watchmaking, which VC and even IWC are (look at their grand complications). Omega is on fire the last few years. Sneed is the most traded watch in the world, and prices are going up. The new limited edition Seamasters are actually fucking hot and desirable for a change.

They are mismanaging Breguet and pretty much everything else they own, but I don't think they give a fuck. Swatch is literally Omega and some random shit, at this point.

Nobody cares. If people don't even care about Breguet then it's terminal. They're dead. The watch market can't afford to have a thousand different brands competing at the same level.

>What has Omega released recently that is desirable? Are you talking about the anniversary Seamasters that everyone was making fun of?

Random story: I met Anthony and Marco at LAX about 2-2.5 years ago. Anthony aggressively rushed up to me and asked if I wanted to sell him my watch. Marco looked really embarrassed. Anthony is a socially awkward guy and he's extremely weird-looking. He's so short for a man! I'm 6'5" so it's hard for me to gauge shorter peoples' height but my wife was with me. She's 5'7" and was easily two inches taller than Anthony. Anthony's ears are not only outsized for his head but they're constantly flickering back and forth. He'd be a terrible poker-player. He must wear makeup in his videos because his face is absolutely covered with acne. I assume that's a side-effect of taking steroids. Anthony looks like a stubby little bowling ball. At the time of meeting him, I didn't know that he was such a POS. I had watched most of his videos and I already knew he wasn't a qualified/educated businessman. Even though I didn't know he's a scammer at the time, he threw off a lot weird vibes. Who in the hell aggressively runs up on a person wanting to buy their watch?? He could have asked naturally if he just wasn't so aggressive. Initially, his approach frightened me because it seemed like a stranger was going to tackle me. My wife and I were extremely uncomfortable. I can only imagine how miserable his employees and colleagues were having to spend so much time with him. Now wonder he had to buy friends with presents, cars and homes. He's intolerable...and that's just from meeting him for five minutes.

sub seconds sit too high on the dial, constantly reminding you the movement is too small for the case. not something you'd want on your "haute horology" piece.

Lads, is this a redial or a fake?

Supposedly it's from the early 1970's and I looked up some Tudors from the era but they either come with an older logo (no applied shield) and this font OR the applied logo and a newer font.
That plus the painfully misaligned logo at the 12 make me think it's a very sloppy redial.

Any way to tell without opening the caseback?

Also can redialed watches be sent in for service to get a new/original dial? If yes, how much would that be?

Well Credor is a great choice, even under 5k you can score something absolutely incredible looking, if you are down to look for a certain reference you should have an easier time if you are from Japan. Maybe you can even score a Spring Drive Credor if you are lucky/dedicated enough to look for a cheap one. Keep in mind sizes, best case scenario go and try the watches you are interested in.

Grand Seiko also is an option similar to a Credor you can get something that looks incredibly KINO. Top tier dial options, there are simpler dials. For movement options, GS is no slouch either. 9F are quartz, 9S is mechanical and that includes autos and manual wind movements as well. Finally, we get 9R which is Spring Drive. Again, living in Japan makes this shit like 120% easier because no shipping costs. Also, JP only special editions.

Rolex falls well outside your price range. Maybe an Oyster Quartz? But they don't hold value like modern Rolex watches. You can get them for like sub $3000, but I honestly doubt the value. Unless there is an anon that is into vintage Oyster Quartz Rolexes and can help more.

Casio Oceanus can be a great choice, killer dials, based Casio at it's finest.

Redials only became a taboo in the last 20-odd years, prior to that it was considered reasonable and appropriate to clean and refinish dials outside the factory when they got dirty or damaged

You can mostly thank rolex spergs for hyping up "tropic dials", and the resulting cash-grab where people made fake tropic dials, and before you know it just wiping a fingerprint off a dial - ANY dial - came to be viewed as worse than raping kids. Even if it was done decades before this stuff became a Bad Thing

And if you want to make that watch collector-approved you'll need to spend much more than it's worth. Either wear it as-is if you like it, or sell it as-is and make it clear that you think the dial isn't original, or else you could get banned from wherever you're selling it

What are you bros wearing today? For me, it's my Tissot Digital from the 1970's, which is just a rebadged Casiotron S-11. Big chunky stainless steel motherfucker, but I like it anyway.

Crown and case back are not original. The dial is either refinished poorly or fake.

>> No.17918557

>>17918554
It's just refinished amateurishly by hand, "fake" back in the day didn't mean what it means now. You can use pad printing to shit out 100 flawless actual fake dials that will fool a lot of people effectively for the cost of trying to hand-paint one dial that will fool no one

Issues I see:
- Case is original, but has been badly refinished at some point (this is why the caseback looks fucked)
- Crown is a replacement, but the Rolex logo being on the crown is not a red-flag at all, Tudors from this period occasionally had Rolex crowns or Tudor shield crowns.
- Dial has been pretty badly refinished, but is most likely genuine.

I'd crack the caseback to be safe, I know a lot of these vintage Tudors have had their movements replaced or frankenised with off the shelf 2824's over the years as a cost saving measure. It's probably still a nice enough watch, but if you're going for a 100% original example, this ain't it.

Here's an old pic of my 1960's Tudor with a horrendous redial that I bought back before I knew any better when I first got into watches like 15 years ago. It's a little shitter, but I still like it anyway.

>This is incredibly based anon, are you into vintage digital watches?
Thanks Anon, I like a lot of the early digitals, but I don't own any of them apart from this one funnily enough. I mainly used to collect vintage Swiss quartz shitters like picrel that I cleaned up and got running, but I've kinda stopped collecting now and just fix shit and sell it on occasionally for fun and a bit of extra money. There's a few early Casiotron models that I'd love to own, but the prices for them are slowly starting to get into retarded territory and I just can't justify it.

I got insanely lucky with the Tissot/Casiotron in the pic above btw, it cost me 20 quid because the pushers weren't working due to being clogged with decades of wrist cheese. Nothing a good clean couldn't fix :^)

Which digitals do you like? I've been eyeing up the Armitron 40/8474 lately. They look absolutely solid and they're dirt cheap for a full stainless steel digital. Seem like they'd be your kinda thing if you like older digi's.
