rasasi dhanal oudh nashwah
a very dark scent, but compared to something like bogart signature it's a comforting, inviting darkness. the oud note is more woody-warm, although something very very slightly fecal comes through every now and then, but it's not noticeable during a normal wear. the nutmeg and juniper give it a bit of spicyness. maybe even a bit of smoke. the honey rounds it all up, it's a thick, but at the same time unsweet, honey. definitively got that oriental touch but in a tasteful way. for the price it was sold at really incredible, seems to be discontinued though.
as an image: thick honey slowly dripping down from agarwood.

>>17917375
You’ve got some great stuff there. Versace Eau Fraich is on my wish list.

>>17917466 (checked)
Great frag, but really loud and easy to overdo. It’s very herbal, slightly floral, slightly leathery. Instantly recognisable, and nothing else like it. It’s worth getting at least a sample of as it’s so influential. I probably wouldn’t wear it in the office, but it’s good for less formal situations. One spray max, or you’ll gas everyone in a 10ft radius.

>>17917505
Lol, thank you. It’s good stuff. Proraso White is my default shave soap, so I thought I’d try their colognes. The cypress and vetiver is like a slightly fresher Encre Noire. Wish they still made it as a shave soap. The Azure Lime is a lovely summer scent, but sadly doesn’t last.

How did I do?

Bvlgari Black was a gift from my dad

>> No.17917570

About six months ago I went to a local store and this smelled MUCH more fruity than the one I just got as a gift, this one is much more citrusy. I took an uber this morning and it smelled similar to the cheap air freshener that the old Mazda had.Longevity and projection are awful. I'd say the smell is the ultimate "it smeels good" to untrained noses and I'm not trying to sound like a fragrance snob. Anyone else have experience with this? Should I let it sit for a few weeks in the hopes ig gets better?.

Test Zino, but it's not the same, albeit very similar. Beau de Jour has a strong rosemary note and is way sweeter. Zino has a dirty muted patchouli note similar to cigarette smoke, I could see it go well with a cigar on a chill evening at a lounge. BdJ is the office version of it.

>> No.17918046

Calyx leans more unisex than feminine if you've ever smelled it anon. It has surprisingly little sweetness even with the fruity elements listed, and is more bitter than you'd expect from a female-leaning fragrance. I'd even say that the only thing that gives it away is the strength of the florals, otherwise this wouldn't be out of place when used by a man. It's also much greener than Eau Fraiche or Cristalle, and I've still yet to find anything as steely and elegant to date. If there was a female equivalent for Platinum Egoiste, this would be what I think of.

Don't write something off just because it might be for women.

Hello, /fa/, I come to you asking for help.

I've been collecting frags for a while, about 5 years, want to buy GF a frag for christmas but I have no idea about female frags. Her signature and only scent is Eternity from CK, which suits her, but she fell in love with Sillage (SMW clone), Ombré Leather and Shaghaf Oud. She says she really enjoys fresh scents but likes smoke and leather as well, vanilla as well and leans unisex with what she actually ends up liking. I was thinking eau des baux, but I never really liked it that much. Considering she'll likely keep using eternity, I want to get her something more cold weather, so I'll ask you: Do you have any recommends for a unisex frag that has smoke and vanilla but isn't sickly sweet?

Any suggestions for something stealthy? I haven't worn frags since I was born (22y) and now getting into it, seems like most of what I'm looking at is for people one or two decades older. I'd like something that doesn't smell like "fragrances", If that makes any sense.
I smell them on my friends all the time, and it's shit.
So generic, so boring and offensive, It would have been better if they wore nothing, and imaging that happening to me doesn't sound like something I want. So now I'm looking for something interesting and "attractive" that people would actually want to come closer for, if that makes sense. I have no budget limit. For now, I have

>BF - Cœur de Noir

>Sea sounds fun so I'd like to get: Sel Marin, Pacific Rock Moss, Aqva Marine, Millesime Imperial
>Unsure but figured I should test: Dior Homme, Ultra Male ?
Also I really like gimmicky things that are unwearable but funny. For that categories I have

That is funny, I actually got 13, 22 and 19. Haven't tried 22 yet (I'm coping) but both of the others I found bad, don't get me wrong they have the interesting part down rather well but as a smell it's too generic for what I would have expected. I'm not experienced when it comes to frags but maybe that's a good thing, so me it smells like a cheap free sample they give you at the mall.
I really can't be memed into becoming a wine snob otherwise I'll smell like my friends because to normal people (me, totally) it's all the same.
I have heard moss from commodity is supposed to be good but I removed it from my list, maybe I should take another look

Guerlain Heritage is a lot more woody. The sandalwood and cedar base are very prominent throughout alongside the patchouli and so it feels a bit 'warmer' because it's got a woody base.
Heritage also has a decently prominent juniper berry note and the balsamic-like pine/fir that adds some spicy aroma to it

NYI is not really woody at all, but gets a solid base from the oakmoss and the musk.
If you compare the two side by side, NYI will feel a lot more herbal (some say 'medicinal').
The citrus plays a bigger role in the opening of NYI after which you begin smelling a bit more of the pepper, lavender and the herbal notes.

The musk is never enough to be distracting or draw attention, but it creates a base for the spicy and green notes to sit on top of.

They both have a distinct vintage feel around them, and I'd say both are a very good pick if you're looking for a classy scent. Some people dislike them because they smell "old", but these two in particular are some of my favourites.

Anyone like Buly 1803's stuff? I did my first ever expensive blind buy earlier today for their Eau Triple Sumi Hinoki. I originally was looking for something that smells like a campfire, but I came across some of the descriptions saying that it smells like a 19th century Japanese temple and hot springs, and my weaboo self couldn't resist. It's also apparently alcohol-free, which intrigues me since, as much as I like fragrances, I am sometimes concerned about all of the alcohol drying out my skin.

Speaking of campfire scents, does anyone have any recommendations? I think I'll try some of Demeter's Fireplace for now since it's so cheap.

I haven't had that many wears of Lalique pour homme. I have it, but I haven't worn it as often. But the sandalwood and cedar are still pretty prominent players. with the main (in my nose) top note that I get, being pomelo/grapefruit, so a lot more fruit-forward than Héritage when it comes to how it contrasts the wood.
Lalique pour homme I feel is also a bit milder than Héritage

NYI is again, much more herbal and mossy and has this 1950's feel over it where if you were told to imagine "what does a 50's gentleman smell like?" then you'd imagine NYI.
Lalique pour homme (lion), is also a scent that would match that description, but it's a bit more contained and l think its very noticeable woody notes help it blend more into the background so it's not as surprising a scent as NYI.

A lot of people say that NYI can have a "woah buddy" feel, because it's an unapologetically herbal and fresh spicy scent, and it's hard to describe if someone haven't smelled it, but NYI has this weird quality to it where you smell it and it doesn't pretend like it's not a perfume.
It has elements to it where I wouldn't call it chemical, but you know "that's a perfumey-smell" but in a positive way, where lalique pour homme is not doing that. There, you just smell (good) like you've rubbed wood and grapefruit all over your body.

TL:DR;
> lalique pour homme (lion) is a nice smelling but still mild cedarwood and sandalwood, with grape, pomelo and rosemary to contrast it.
>Héritage is a lot stronger in terms of the woody aspects, and its contrast notes are patchouli, flowers (geranium, rose, carnation) and herbs/spices (juniper berries, sage) instead of citruses
> New York Intense is more herbal and fresh spicy, getting its base from musk and oakmoss, and contrasting that with bergamot, lemon, lavender, pepper and cloves. Some say it's medicinal and while I disagree with the wording, i can see where they're going with it.

soie malaquais is absolutely magnificent. it’s a warm/sweet fragrance that is beautifully composed. it creates a cloud of the scent around you, but it’s not in your face. it’s subtle and not penetrating at all

voodoo chile is wonderful as well. it reminds me of black afghano, but it’s a little bit more sweet and less of a dark scent. once again, it’s there, but it’s not penetrating. it’s less subtle than soie malaquais but it definitely shows itself. i prefer this one over black afghano by a long shot

i tried most so far, but it’s definitely the best discovery set i ever bought

Whether it's versatile, is kind of up for discussion.
Some will insist that it is, but others will say that it requires a certain gettup to pull off.
I certainly love it, but I am having a hard time on putting a label on which occasion it's for, or when to use it. So I'll just say whenever you feel like it

Usually you ought to be at least 25 to pull NYI off, and I'd say in any case, you should get a sample of it, or go for the small 30ml bottle, that way it's not too big of an investment.

Gents, what's your cultural background?
I keep rattling on about how NYI for me/here is definitely a posh old lady smell, but I gather it's really not unversal.
Meaning someone who was quite old already 15 years ago. But - I imagine - if you don't have the cultural background of going to the opera/theatre and having these elderly figures in velvet waddle around with that exact smell - you perceive NYI very differently than I do. I cannot see past the association, but I really understand not having it.
That being said, I actually find this a really neat and fun aspect of frags, the associations different people have. Like for me Kilian Memento Mori smells like family funerals, to a degree where I can see the corpses.

it's definitely not a typical example, but a quirky concept of making a vetiver-forward fragarance that's somehow also a gourmand

>YSL Babycat (hard to get some places), totally unisex, with a boozy vanilla and spices (mainly pepper and saffron) - if you want something that is still leaning feminine, go for Lavalliere instead. it's more fruity and floral.

> Nicolai Parfumeur - Kiss Me Intense - smells of vanilla and bitter almonds, leans younger, so it's not like a mature-woman smell. kind of like a scented vanilla candle - some have reported this to be too strong so I'd suggest getting a sample first.

> Simone Andreoli - Leisure in paradise. It's a very tropical and sweet scent (summer fragrance) - you can check the note breakdown yourself, but basically it's all coconut, vanilla, papaya and pineapple) - alternatively if she doesn't like coconut, "Sunsplosion" might be a good alternative.

And if you run out of ideas, you can always go to fragrantica and look at Guerlain's Shalimar collection (just search for a "shalimar" frag and scroll down)

When I think of dated I think of something like Dior Homme. It reminds me of the mall

>The gourmand aspect completely aside, FE is so different than TdH, I wasn’t sure if one or the other was more representative of the scent.
they both have that smoky aspect
but neither of them are really classical vetiver fragrances

I haven't had many encounters with people out and about where I smelled fragrances on them that were similar to NYI, whenever I can smell people in public, it's usually just an oversprayer of le male or sauvage, but I remember my granddad used to wear something similar to nyi, or at least... his skin reacted to his stuff in such a way that it smelled like it.

I think the artemisia note in it, might be what's doing this for you as it is a quite often divisive, and some people find it offensive, while others appreciate it.

If you want to know cultural background, I'll say grew up poor, pulled my 'bootstraps' up and made a very comfortable life for myself. This means that during my childhood or adolescence I didn't have any contact with operas or theatres although I do now - some of my friends from college went on to become opera singers so I frequently go there to watch them. In my youth it was more bodegas and punk kids sitting on a hill getting drunk when I was being social. If I wasn't being social, I would be isolating at home playing vidya or building shit with my granddad in the yard.

My fragrance journey kind of came to be as a reaction to me not liking basic blues. We have a massive chain-store here that's half pharmacy half cosmetics store, and that's everyone's go-to place for perfume and deodorant, but they basically only carry the big designers like versace, hugo boss, dior, D&G, gucci, JPG, Chanel and Paco Rabanne, so being fed up with my only options being too sweet in the case of clubbing frags from JPG, or basic blues like giorgio armani or versace dylan blue, bdc, etc. I decided to get into fragrances with you nerds.

Someone here suggested NYI and it became my favourite after I got it. It just checks all the boxes for me because it's traditionally masculine without being offensive. It doesn't smell like ass-sweat or motor-oil. Of course I also enjoy leathery and darker stuff, but I'll always go back to NYI.

I see your point, and I find myself wondering whether my associations are an unfair sampling of the use of perfume by the previous generations.
Meaning that (at least here) women live 10 years more than men on average - even moreso then when you subtract all the dumbass men who die in their youth. So I was always more likely to smell women, rather than men, in their 70s and 80s at the opera - and so I associate the general classic aroma profile with women, not as a classic frag for men.
My granddad wore more fresh/green stuff - and cheap - I'd say.
And before anyone thinks I'm making point of being posh, that's the specifics of where I grew up - cheapest tickets to the theatre/opera were always affordable, so it was very common to go. A sort of silent dignity of a region crawling out & recovering from socialist madness. I'd say at some points (circa 2005) the cheapest opera tickets might have been less than a large meal at McDonalds.

I mean, if you have any fragrances like NYI I'll gladly take any recommendations. I like the scent profile very much, so having things close to it would also be great.

If you actually meant to reply to me, I do not enjoy NYI, but as classic perfumes go - my granddad wore stuff that was, according to fragrantica descriptions, woody, aromatic & citrus forward, but ended up different. Maybe the lavender & musk in NYI makes me see it as feminine. The broader composition is similar, admittedly.
All the stuff my granddad used to wear is long discontinued, as is he.

I meant to reply - I understand that you don't quite enjoy it, but if you've smelled things that are similar, I would like to hear about those so I could sample them.

I was just asking, as you seem like someone who might know the names of some I would possibly like.
