Pros:
Pretty slim for an automatic watch (mvmt Ronda R-150).

Cons:

>Redpill me on (luxury) pens, never really understood the appeal.

Handwriting is a skill that is pleasing to master. It shows good education and good breeding. A good pen is a smoother writer, is better balanced, leading to less hand fatigue when writing letters.

It's very much like mechanical watches or safety razors. Even though they're obviously antequated, part of the pleasure in using them is the maintenance and ritual; and the skills/knowledge/experience needed to get good with them.

Do you have to spend a thousand dollars on a pen like in >>17895263 ? Of course not. That's extreme. But you can get a really good pen, a nice bottle of ink, and a pad of good paper for under a hundred bucks and get 100% of the experience.

I disagree. A safety razor, just like a fountain pen, requires skill and practice to get superior results. A person's first attempts at writing with a fountain pen will look like shit too.

Go to any of the threads in /wt/ where guys make using a safety razor their entire personalities and you read dozens of sob stories about new shavers ripping their faces off because its their first time using a real blade. Guys who've been using them for years just tell them to be patient, go easy, and learn. (i.e. Just because you've been shaving since you were 14 doesn't mean you are an expert will all pieces of shaving equipment.

I'm >>17895263 and no, I will not. For a couple reasons.
1. Fountain pens are so fucking dorky that everyone with one is a nerd. Why make an already small community smaller?
2. Pen nibs aren't all the same and excellent pens may not suit your writing style. For example, everyone knows Montblanc pens (basically, the Rolex of pens) but I absolutely hate the way they write so I'll never get one. I prefer the way Italian pens feel.

They are much cheaper than their European counterparts but they still have solid gold nibs. These aren't quite entry-level, but entry-level steel-nib pens feel like writing with nails in most cases. Think of them like buying a Grand Seiko and then moving onto Rolex/Patek/Journe later if you want to.

Vintage pens are typically like vintage watches. If you don't know how to tell the difference between vintage and junk, you'll just end up getting fleeced.

Old pens tend to write a little better because they were made in an era when everyone knew how to write with one. Nowadays, people only know ballpoints, so they tend to press way too hard. Therefore, the fountain pen makers have to make their nibs stiffer to keep them from being destroyed, making them write worse.

If you know how to repair pens, of course, you can actually make a little money. Finance your really nice pen by buying old pens, fixing their leaks, straightening the nibs, cleaning them, and selling them for 3x what you paid.

If you know vintage Aurora, then you'll recognize Visconti or OMAS or Montegrappa. It's got the same bounce but is just slightly less toothy than Aurora. All feel very recognizably Italian, though.

My favorite pen is a Pilot 823 with a Waverly nib. If the rest of my collection had to go, that's the one pen I'd keep.

Not really anon, it’s pretty easy, I think it’s more so about your face getting used to a single blade and figuring out the directions of hair growth on your face. After using one for many years I now use it in the shower as easily as I used to use a multi blade. After all it was designed to be easy. Pic rel, 1930s Gillette which works well and a Parker razor from Amazon, also works well. >What's with the hate for Jaeger Lecoutre and speedmasters?

the hate is for JLC's management and the Speedmaster's fans.

Jaeger-LeCoultre is frustrating because they have never been able to translate their ability to engineer great movements into similarly great watches. Due to their inexplicable inability to settle on a design language, their only real memorable model is the Reverso.

The Speedmaster is a victim of overhype. It's a fine watch but it's also nothing particularly special, while it's fans screech about how it's the greatest thing since wholesale carpet (moon) and spew marketing drivel (MOON!) at you until you walk away in disgust. Speedmaster fans are people no one wants to be friends with.

What the other guy said.
HOWEVER luxury pens are a chumps game UNLESS they're sold by some very small, relatively new brands that cater specifically to enthusiasts.
In general quality control of so many so called "luxury" makers is shit. This fucking brand >>17895263 in particular is absolutely egregious for seemingly making all their pens on a friday afternoon. It used to be that I could generalize and state that anyone getting into this shit should avoid Italian makes but the German brands that I thought I could count on are also shite and quality has gone down the shitter.
With Visconti it's nib and structural issues, with ze germans it's the fucking nibs. Japanese pens will actually write and write well but many of them feel like the equivalent of some midranged shitter watch with a cookie cutter ETA movement in them.
Jap stuff is thus very reliable but boring, until you get into the artisanal grade lacquered stuff.

Idiots will spend thousands on pens that end up not working as well as some mass produced student's pen by Pilot or Platinum, and the companies have gotten away with it for the past 20 years because they were selling pens to people for use as basically corporate gifts; they don't actually have to write well or at all since the boomer that retires and gets the giftbox will never actually use the pen. Means that historically decent brands have gotten LAZY with their nib grinding such that you either have to make endless returns to get a good nib or send your pen to a third party specialist who will fix what's usual a tiny problem that could've been avoided if the factory took 2seconds extra shoring up their shit act.
BUT, if you get a pen that works in harmony with your personal nib/ink/paper trifecta, then you will truly enjoy writing.

t.fag who's spent too much on fucking pens over the past 15yrs.

I wish I liked VC more. But every time I see an Overseas I think I prefer a Royal Oak Jumbo. That is to say, the PP achieved it with the Nautilus, but the VC proposal lacks strength. The 222 looks more interesting, but the bezel is horrible. Maybe a 222 with an Overseas bezel would be an amazing watch.

>All we need is able hands to hold the rifles once the hordes overrun the gates.

There's too much risk that when the browns besiege our walls, the semi-browns decide that the whites aren't going to be the winning side. What happens then if the semi-browns have already been allowed inside?

>However, they don't have much to offer besides variations of the pilot, portugeezer/portofino and ingenieur.
>they don't have much to offer besides 4 very famous models
Rolex literally doesn't have more than 4 famous models (Sub/GMT, Datejust, Daytona, uhh... Explorer? already pushing it).

And the Aquatimer is rather famous too, given it dates back to their roots (50s). I think you're being very hypocritical here.

>LC have quite a few unique models that are overlooked by most.
They are overlooked because they are derivative and not unique to JLC. The only unique piece that JLC makes is the Reverso, everything else is a "patent-free" watch design.
>Master compressor,
This is a type of watch and not a watch. JLC just took the concept, which by the way IWC made in the 50s, as they needed a diver.
>polaris, amvox
Even watch people don't know what they are unless they already own a JLC, bro. Stop being facetious. JLC is a movement maker not a watchmaker and this is an open secret most people don't want to admit.

Here is your "master compressor" by JLC oh wait...

I go for a good amount of hikes during the warmer months, so it's a nice complication to have if things go wrong. It's also fairly unique, and the dual crown looks cool in my opinion.
