/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - SPRINGDALE EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

Yeah. A pair of El Tigre in black and a pair of Dappers in the dark brown. Third pair of boots there are Danner Canadian 10".

The two pair of Gasolinas are my daily moto boots, but they're so nice and comfy that I wear them off bike pretty regularly. Especially the Dappers, which look great with lots of fits. The Danners are really just for winter/hunting/etc type stuff.

Highly recc Gasolina. They're made to order, to your measurements, as all boots should be, and very reasonably priced. I'm very tempted to order a pair of Elite or Classics as well, but I'm not sure I'd pull them off as easily as the ones I have now.

Problem is I don't REALLY know if my Alden size is correct.

My Alden Trubalance are US11E and with thin socks they're a little loose on width but with thick socks they're a great fit maybe just a hair short on the pinky toe. But Trubalance is a big last.
Most of my other shoes are UK10.5G and on TLB it feels a little long, on Carmina it feels right, on Bonafe it feels a touch short.

I ordered them at the same time, a little over one year ago. Both pairs get worn 2-3 times a week. The black pair is my go-to for weekend motorcycle rides, 100-300 miles or so and have been caught in the rain at least twice. The brown pair I wear on shorter rides around town and occasionally when I travel for work. Both are holding up really well, and just recently got their first thorough clean+polish+conditioning. With their construction I believe they can be re-soled anywhere - any boot repair place should be able to grind a replacement sole to fit.

When I ordered my Indys the first pair was laughably bad. I opened the box, took one look, laughed out loud then put them back in the box to return to sender. Welt stitching looked like a toddler did it. I'm talking three different attempts with three different threads that were for some reason fuzzy and frayed and the stitches didn't even start or stop in the same spots
The replacement pair has a crooked tongue, the lining was missing stitches that I ended up gluing and the facings didn't have backstitching anywhere securing the seams

I've decided ordering online is a waste of time if they just send garbage and replace it with garbage

So when I was a dumb teenager over a decade ago I bought a pair of leather boots from St. John's Bay that I had only worn a handful of times, so they aren't broken in nicely just yet.

It's a very popular 100+ year old chrome tanned + veg re-tan hot stuffed formulation
it's not bad but it's not worth it's hype imo, seidel's newer double shot is better imo
the outer waxed layer leads to significant wear from relatively minimal/easy use so not recommended for anything but the most casual boots. also most cheaper boots and stuff like wolverine 1000 miles use some pretty mediocre, thin cxl so that doesn't leave a good taste in people's mouths who have only that as a reference point, compared to something from Nick's in cxl that's much thicker/higher quality
also Horween's waxed flesh (basically cxl but the roughout is treated and waxed instead of the smooth) is just better as you don't have to play the cxl "grain lottery

For some reason shoes last me for really long, maybe because I actually take care of them, so over the years I accumulated a lot of stuff. I should probably get rid of some of these, but, in no particular order:

>Blue mall brand service dressy boots that I got for an event, I wear them like once or twice per year for a very specific fit.
>Black mall brand boots that I bought for cheap to use as beaters, mostly unused
>Mall brand suede chelseas that I got for super cheap to test if I liked wearing that style of boot. Uncomfortable as fuck, can't even resell them for basically free.
>Black Levi's chelsea boots that I got to fullfill an order and qualify for a discount. Surprisingly comfy and good for the price, even if the leather is trash. For some reason I get tons of compliments when I'm wearing an all-black fit with them (very occasionaly)
>Austrian paramemes I got meme'd into buying
>Argueyrolles french army rangers from before they moved production to Algiers
>20+ year old Doc Martens oxblood from before the brand went to trash. Still holding up, still better than anything new I've seen at stores (even current MiE)
>Red Wing 875 oro legacy, I use them mostly for work
>Red Wing Iron Ranger 8111 Amber Harness, the old model with the cork nitrile sole. Got half a size too big. Still debating if I should get a pair in my proper size and resell these, but I just like them so much. Probably the boots I wear the most.
>Red Wing Beckman 9411 black cherry featherstone which I consider the jewel of my collection but that I don't wear as often for some reaso
About half of my stuff is thrash and the other half is debatable. I've been considering upgrading to something like White's, Nick's, Frank's, etc. but hinestly I don't see myself needing something better than my beckmans which can do anything I want them to do and them some.

I don’t like how pointy a lot of them are (like a dress shoe with a shaft) and don’t like trickers design and brogues. I sort of liked Cheaney but they use leather board and wooden shanks (I’m sure the wood will hold but I don’t like them), plus their leather selection is not to my taste. the most uncomfortable boot in m y collection is the red wing beckman. can anyone else with a pair confirm what im saying. i have the right size, its just they tear into your ankle, the leather is stiffer and more unforgiving than any other boot i have, and on top of that the footbed is so hard , it feels like youre wlaking on a rock. i also own the iron rangers and blacksmith and they are nothing like this. I hate them.

I also own IRs and 875 and can confirm that the beckman is way harder to break in than the other two put together.
Basically the leather is way stiffer, moreso on the shaft, and they also have a leather midsole which makes them harder to flex at first. Can't imagine how it is to break in some whites or nicks.
The first day I put on my beckmans I had them on for two hours at home, about 90% of tgat time spent sitting at the computer. I had to take them off because my feet were killing me.
I wore them outside for a couple of hours the following day and so on. Was like wearing clogs.
After the first two weeks of almost torture the shaft became way softer and now they have been getting better with each use.
You can try to condition them with leather balm to speed up the process a little.

Not quite, they discontinued the heavy version, the light version is still in use. The reason stock is dry is that they have been allowing conscripts to keep the boots, so you will only find healthy stock locally.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

And for the other anon, if you are keen on getting them, check kommamdostore which has been stocking brand new pairs from Steinkogler.
You can get them from Steinadler online easily and cheaper (avoid the lined version) but people are memeing them as trash compared to steinkogler.
