it has average performance from my experience, at least the EDP does. not a powerhouse, but definitely much better than some other Laliques like, say, Encre Noire Sport or Equus. if those are 3 hour performers, this would be 6 hours, but I don't like talking about specific hour values, too subjective
the scent itself is really nice if you like this sort of sandalwood aromatic barbershop genre. it's definitely on the creamy and powdery side of this profile, I find it really calming, without the spiciness or animalic elements you can find in some others. it is a classy scent too. I'm sure some will find the aromatics too sharp or the drydown too powdery though

Slop, yeah, the best of the best is slop, but not long. H24 is great, but not my bag, baby. I always say it’s what BI wants to be. Has a weird hot iron smell—that is absolutely real. I don’t get the gummy bear thing. It sort of comes on woody, but sticks with some sweetness. The parfum, though, I HATE. I mean, even the color is fucking gross, man. All I get is old banana. Still shocked that it went to market.

And you’re saying you get the banana smell in the EdP? I’ve only tried the EdT and laughed when I randomly got a banana whiff during the heart notes. Laughed even more when I realized I wasn’t the only one (hadn’t read any reviews prior to trying it). Also never got the “hot iron” smell in the EdT.

I just tried arso and maai

I loved mem yesterday, but maai is just too much an aldehyde bomb on the opening for my taste. The civet is noticeable just the first seconds and then it dries into a nice and classic tuberose jasmine combo that we've seen a million times. Natural smelling tho, but uninteresting

Arso starts extremely sweet on my skin, almost gourmandish , like chestnuts covered in honey. I disliked it. But then , the sweetness calms down and goes away and relaxes into a really realistic and dry fresh cut woods. Will test it more but Im loving it so far

Junipery gin-like note in the beginning dries down into expertly blended cold amber-woods. This is more of a technique flex than a statement. You'll smell good and clean, but not that unique. My experience is similar, I say this as anon making the old lady at opera claim. Some Nicolais stuff reminded me of my grandfather, some reminded me of old ladies, I associate NYI with women in their 60s wearing they best velvet skirt/jacket combo to waddle around the opera at intermission. It has some dignity, doesn't smell cheap or too sweet, but had a mothball vibe & I really regretted trying a little on my wrist. It's something I'd imagine Madeleine Albright wearing if she was less dead.

Whispers in the Library was a bit fresher as a vanilla but also just kinda smelled like a cheap candle

Second what >>17885949 said. Can’t speak for the brand as a whole, only tried 3 of their frags total, but BL is a great fresh alternative to all the blue scents that typically get suggested, especially if you don’t like amber/ambroxan shit (like myself).
Can’t speak for the sillage, but the longevity is decent for a freshy, 4-6 hours if I remember correctly, closer to 4 though. Would def still recommend.

For G&B in general, Desert Rosewood is also good, but Pacific Rock Moss I personally would pass on.

real recommendation: start by going to a fragrance store and sniffing whatever they have. if you have trouble choosing what to sniff, just look at one of the charts under the OP on your phone
I also think it doesn't make sense to start out with expensive niche fragrances, you should get acquainted with common fragrance profiles first. it will make you appreciate fragrances like LADDM and especially more old school profiles like NYI more

I did that twice and I got the following experience
> Try 1
Went and just smelt everything from regular brands. Everything pretty much smelt the same to me. Sneezed a lot too. And everything was oscillating between "Yeah that smells good" to "Who would enjoy that?"
But nothing struck me like "Yeah I want to wear this"
>Try 2
Did the same, realised nothing changed. Went to the "nicer" section of the store where they had Tom Ford shit, etc. and some female vendors. I felt the second I told her I didn't know jack shit about fragrance that she wasn't too excited to help me. So I sniffed a few of them and endep and after a few tries, I couldn't smell anything anymore. Instead of giving me some coffee bean to sniff or whatever, she told me to come back another day.

It's one of the main reason I never wore fragrance before. There's so much of them and they're too close of one another for me to actually remember any of them.

You need to pick several to try in a single visit and take them with you either on strips or on your arms to smell at home. If you smell too many, you get desensitizes and they all blend together. It's not a fault of the scents, just the way smell works.

Was in a Macy’s over the weekend and smelled Fahrenheit on a tester strip for the first time. I’ll be the first to admit I have pretty limited experience testing frags, even more so designer stuff, but it really has a unique profile imo.

Purely out of curiosity, is there anything else that has the same, or a similar smell, without actually trying to be a Fahrenheit dupe? (Or a flanker, duh)

Give me a rundown on Egoiste vs Platinum Egoiste?

>> No.17888799

>>17888778
Egoiste:
>sandalwood rose spicy oriental
>a bit dandy and romantic smelling, perfect fit for the name
>sensual and comfy, but with a hint of dirtiness to it
>the last somewhat daring mainline Chanel release

Platinum Egoiste:
>created to capitalize on Egoiste's great marketing but with a safer, more mass-appealing scent by 90s standards
>more of a typically 90s super clean and fresh take on the fougere genre in the vein of CK Eternity for men
>keeps a creamy sandalwood base as a reference to the original and nice contrast to the sharp aromatic top notes
>smells much more like a professional work scent, like you just shaved with expensive soap and are ready for work

I think the real elitist snobs prefer Egoiste but Platinum Egoiste might be the best version of that clean 90s fougere DNA, which many people on here seem to enjoy. seems to be more fougere enjoyers than oriental appreciators ITT, so maybe that's why
