Now on my third post about these whites perry boots I got a couple months ago. Despite my efforts, they have not broken in, it's been months and I still cannot walk more than half a mile without developing a blister on my heel, I've tried everything, I put these sticky heel pad things in them, I rubbed leather conditioner all over them and squished and massaged them, I tried wearing three layers of wool socks, it's not working. I don't even feel any heel lift really, but they just rape the ever loving shit out my heels anyway. Is it possible I got a defective boot or something? Way past the point of returning or exchanging them, I guess I can sell them on ebay for some petty change, sucks, I wanted to wear them.

FYI: To remove sticky residue from leather you can use WD40. Alternatively you CAN use Goo Gone despite it saying it's not for leather, nothing bad happens

Depends on the boot. You can hike in a good quality heritage style boot easily enough. That's what soldiers used to wear to war after all. It probably won't be as comfortable as a modern hiking shoe/boot, but it will last a lot longer and you'll look and feel like a badass.

is waterproofing suede necessary? The store clerks usually recommend waterproofing any kind of shoe you purchase, obviously because they just want to sell you another spray. Never did that, and my leather shoes are fine. Looking online I found nothing on the subject, the search results only regurgitate that you NEED to impregnate suede, and it always sounds like the procedure has a potential to fuck your shoe up more than the potential water damage.
