cedrat boise is honestly the most overrated fragrance I've smelled, a really nasty take on the Aventus DNA. red tobacco is a bit better, but there are better, cheaper tobacco fragrances out there

if you want a cheap, slightly trashy sweet tobacco fragrance that performs well, get Bogart Pour Homme (the 2004 one). it's cheaper, better smelling and actually made by a competent perfumer
and if you just want something that's technically "niche" but strong and not too expensive, get Bois Imperial

Just got Sicilian Leather not long ago and it's great.

I tried Italian leather at the store and remembering it was a bit too leathery, but that was before I kind of got my eyes opened to leather fragrances, so I'll definitely have to revisit this one.

Beaufort is such a meh except Fathom V. I really do not get why it was mentioned so much here. Tonnere is like a smoked fucking salmon and Iron Duke turns sickly sweet after the nice opening into something Naxos like, ew. Terror and magnificence is too soft and quiet, otherwise okish.
After this and Sorcinelli being mostly disappointing I don't want to buy samples anymore and spend days wearing overhyped memes instead of what I own and like already.

All a matter of opinion and nose. It’s like every other house out there, it has good stuff, and it has meh stuff, and what one person perceives as meh, another perceives as amazing.

Personally the only one I hated was Vi Et Armis, I think possibly it’s the opium note that just turns my stomach. Don’t care for the Fathom V because it’s too floral (like I said in the previous thread, just stick your head in a rose bush) and I literally wore T&M today, which isn’t bad, but it’s just a strong black pepper scent.

Iron Duke and Acrasia I love though. Oddly Acrasia smells like bubble gum though, and dries down into a metallic Iron Duke scent, and Iron Duke starts out slightly sweet and grows leathery and metallic. I like Tonnere just for being different.

Guerlain has the most heritage and history and a lot of old classics, but their 21st century releases haven't been that outstanding and it feels like they don't really have an identity for them. they're just competent, good designer releases, but no special qualities or smash successes

nowadays, Hermes is the one that has a strongest sense of identity and cohesive vision and fortunately they do keep their classics around too, even though they don't really fit their current transparent green Ellena worship. they've had some good and releases in the 21st century and haven't fallen for the blue frag or clubber memes, in keeping with the "cohesive vision" thing. but historically, they are the least notable of the three for perfumery as a whole

I know climate is huge factor and makes internet communication even more vague than it is already. I started thinking I would need to redo my whole wardrobe if ever move after going 2000m up and synthetic shit turned into masterpiece and my favourites into screechy meh.
Some houses are thought of as memes almost universally, amongst hardcore autists, like MM, so I am not sure I agree completely with the meh chance being that similar. Not all brands have strong signature and sometimes there is an outlier in otherwise shitty line which gets praise. For me Montale Full Incense mogged both Sorcinelli's best sellers Lavs and Reliqva which was reeeeeeeeeeally unexpected. Maybe I am just getting grumpy, but it is quite discouraging when an Eldo kit gives you, an incense lover, more emotions than some super duper niche which bases its identity on smoke, incense, edgy dark reputation and quite ambitious stories.
Rose bush in a white floral is giving noselet lol. I wish more ppl here got into florals instead of sperging about iris in dior homme for the 500th time.

I tend to like sweet, oriental (but not too spicy or animalic) frag profiles, I like vanilla too. Among frags I've tested and liked quite a lot, there's Le Male Le Parfum, BDC Parfum, Eau des Baux, several Tom Fords (including Ombre Leather, Noir Extreme, Oud Wood), LV Imagination (great for summer), and a few others
I disliked things like H24, Bois Imperial, Aventus, Eau Sauvage

I'm looking for something mass appealing, definitely not a "challenging" scent, but maybe something that strays a bit from the most generic frags out there, something to be remembered by (instead of people going "oh my friend/ex/whatever used to wear this").
I'm male, 25, dress fairly conservatively (mostly dark colors, menswear type stuff), and want something good for fall, winter and maybe spring too. Though year-round options would be nice as well

I got a 5ml decant of BDC Parfum. First impressions - I don't like it. I live in the tropics so it's summer all year long. During the day the lemon is too strong. At night it's weaker. Even during the drydown the lemon is just too aggressive. Overall a 6/10 for me. I prefer the EDT, haven't tried the EDP.

I carry 2ml decant bottles and ask the sales rep if I can take some as a sample to try and determine if I enjoy the fragrance and they're usually OK with it. 2ml is roughly 25-30 sprays. For more info, just aim the atomizer into the decant bottle, spray multiple times repeatedly and then snap it in, it takes ~10 seconds if you are quick. The sales rep don't really understand that 2ml is actually a lot because a typical tester bottle is 100ml. People come in stores and spray a lot of the times. I've seen a guy come in regularly to spray different fragrances while I was decanting. Sales rep don't care because they're just wagies. The decant bottles can be had on aliexpress, I paid like 20 dollars for 100 bottles and I bought like two orders. I don't spend money on fragrances.
