I've been eyeing this beaut and just as I'm about to pull the trigger it dawned on me: this is a cope. The issue is I'm not sire what's it a cope for. My gut tells me explorer, but I really don't like the numerals on the new ones.
I guess my question is: what ref is closest to the marsthon gpm? I'm thinking there must be something worth saving for, otherwise I'll spend the 500$ and keep looking I guess

in that price range, omega and rolex are direct competitors and the standard choice faced by normies when they get into watches.

in terms of quality both are comparable, omega has way more options in terms of designs. some say the current gen omega calibers are superior to the current gen rolex movements, which have some notable issues.

rolex has a higher resale value.

The issue with a lumed date wheel is that only the current day will be illuminated so once it ticks over at midnight it might as well not be lumed at all. The Lange solution is ingenious as the transparent dial lets the light in to charge the lume on the upcoming minute/hour on the Zeitwerk or date on the Lange 1. Still I think more brands should do it. Most date wheels are white anyway so I don't see a downside.

All my other, ranging from 750 to 2500, don't have this problem. On the contrary my Credor doesn't have a single flaw no latter how long I look at it using the macro.

Now I understand why the swiss are called shitters. I guess my next one will be a Grand Seiko.

Obviously. It's more like, im talking to myself about this.
It is probably my 2nd favourite watch after my baby alpinist. It feels amazing, it wears phenomenally, like it was designed for my wrist.
The thing is though, I would like some better finishing on the hands and the dial. But that's not why I bought the watch.
I don't take any opinion here as an insult or anything of that sort. But sometimes they right. Even if they never held a watch like that and they can't understand it, they have the right to say that, at the very least, the hands shouldn't be scratched. And grand seiko Does a better job at it.
But at the same time, if I get a GS, people will shit on that one too and the cycle continues, that's 4chan in general.

To go with what the other guy was saying about it being cheap. It's not "monetarily" cheap. 5000 dollars is a lot for most of the population. In the world of luxury watches, though, it's barely entry level. You're not going to get top-level finishing in your entry-level pieces.
Tooter, especially, being the baby brother of Rolex, will never be allowed to make a better watch. That may be an artificial limit placed on them by their corporate masters, but it's a limit nonetheless.

I have both (and a Railmaster). What do you want to know?

If you get them in the right colour, they both make excellent 'one and done' watches.

The Rolex has by far the best, most comfortable bracelet. The first thing I did with my AT was put it on rubber. The rubber strap is sick though. It's my most worn watch by far.

The Rolex has polishing down the sides which smudges, the Omegas are brushed on the sides.

If you're the sort of person that wants to own a single watch for the rest of their life, then the Rolex makes a lot of sense because it's inoffensive and wears with everything.

If you're a hobbyist that keeps a collection of watches for different occasions, then the Rolex is boring as fuck and will end up sitting in the winder like mine does.

Buying a Rolex is also such a dog shit experience that it's completely turned me off the brand. The shelves are empty and ordering one boils down to 'put your name down and maybe one day we'll call you. make sure you answer!'
I can buy a cheap car like a Suzuki and can get frequent updates from order time to delivery, but an obsolete piece of luxury jewellery can't build to order and provide updates? Fuck off.

While the price might not be 100% too good to be true, it is still very cheap and low. The problem with Rolex is that the fakes have become extremely and scarily good, to the point where it's not possible to discern if they are a replica or not, only by lookiong at the pics.
I would not risk it. The reviews are nice and all, and the seller might not even know that it is fake. Seriously, i've heard of stories where people got a replica for 1200 $ that fooled even a rolex boutique into thinking that it's real.
My advice would be to buy it from chrono24 if you have to get it from a grey market.
Again, the seller might think that it is real so he isn't lying, but the price is too low for my taste. Even if the Watch got rebrushed and polished.

One method is a good watch timer but the best method is to find a really reputable vendor, can anyone recommend me one? Going to Japan this April.

Dude, it's not that serious bro. You buy shit to enjoy, if you buy shit hoping to make a profit from them you're hugely mistaken. Unless you're willing to meet a potential Jamal somewhere to sell to them directly where they can then turn around and accused you to selling them a fake, you're stuck with the grey market screwing you. I just sold a Pelagos 39, 6 months old, guess how much I just sold it for? $2500, and this is the best price I got, most grey market dealers were willing to go only $2k. Then they turn around and sell it for 4k, if you think a GM is going to only take a 10% cut you are gravely mistaken.

GM to GM then it's a 10% cut, you to GM you're gonna eat shit. Don't believe me ask the Rolex forum, I've read stories of people selling a Pepsi Jubilee mint for $13k then the dealer resells it for $20. Once you know how the market works you're just gonna say fuck it, buy whatever you want that YOU want, don't bother trying to turn this shit into a get rich scheme.

You want to get rich invest into like a VTX to VTSAX or something.

They say you need all this money on Bergeon crap but the truth is harbor freight watch repair tools work and instead of finger fits I just used condoms and wiped all the lubricant off

And instead of a tiny syringe you can just dip a needle into the oil to get a cunt hairs worth

The magnification is just the same shit the warhammer dudes use

And just follow along with the watch maker on YouTube and do everything he says including dressing your screwdrivers and tweezers regularly

And not fucking up the balance wheel, these mechanical automatic watches are kinda ez as fuck

i'm no expert, all my info is from other people but...

Japanese market is pretty saturated and are highly competitive hence why you see really weird pricing unlike in the west where we typically have listed prices as increments of 5, 10, or 99. people like new things there too so they're quick to move onto the new releases. Also consider that you get access to tax free shopping there which is why you often see two prices listed in stores.

Thanks anon, I am curious about brand identity with omega. Like what are these watches about i dont really know shit besides them being proud about METAS and not being as pretentious experience as the rolex. Also the AQ seems to have some kind of feature to change the hour hand only that wouldn’t stop the watch but wouldn’t you have to place the hour hand exactly in function of the minute hand anyway to make it look right?

I might just get both in the coming year and hold off on asking for a sub for the forseeable future. I really like the summer blue and this AQ as a casual warm weather watch that I can wear in Miami or just in summer beachy places and champagne dial OP as a more elegant thing, if I’m able to acquire one in a reasonable fashion without licking an ADs floors for them

I am beyond blown away rn. Hopefully it stays so accurate for a long time.

It differs from watch to watch, also very dependent on the watchmaker I think. If after a few weeks of daily wear you notice it's started to run a bit slower then I would take it in.

>Bought a Rolex last night

I could unironically blow all the points on a pleb watch <$1000 or something as standard as 1st class flight upgrade. What would you do with a gorillion flight points after buying a watch?
