I think the very first one was a Casio (not sure if F-91-w or not) which i broke within an hour by reading 'water resistant' and putting it into a sink full of water, so that doesn't count. Some time later i then got this beast, it had PROPER 50m of water resistance and was made out of virtually indestructible hard plastic. It also had this cool feature where you could punch in the distance and then if you timed something with the stopwatch it would give you the average speed (above the km/h on the dial). I wore it until the strap broke.

I managed to find the springbar and put it all back together see >>17865261, the springbar fit back into a damaged hole alright and holds the band again but yeah, the cheap Casio aren't durable they are disposable, you just buy a new one when it breaks.

Fortunately for you, those days are basically in the past save for the Daytona and GMT-Master II. The overhype days are over.
For any other Rolex, if they don't have what you want in stock, they can get just about any normal model in a couple weeks. (Some particularly rare dial variants may take longer, since those aren't produced in high numbers.)

If you just want an entry level model like an Explorer or OP, or a common DJ combination like two-tone with a champagne dial, those will probably be in stock and you can just walk out with one that day.

If you can separate the watches themselves from the brand's fans: the watches are fine, very nice dial textures, decent movements, so-so value, bad bracelets, cases that are usually a little too wide or thick.

The brand's fans are typically screechy weebs who make enjoying anything impossible. A lot of the hate for the brand is actually hate for the brand's wearers, but then, the problem is that if you wear one, people will assume you are and treat you as if you were also a screechy weeb.

>But why pay 100K for a Vacheron? What's the usp?

When you're talking about luxury the value proposition never makes sense. It's not 100k worth of gold. It doesn't have 100k worth of man-hours of labor. Is the beauty of the design worth that much? Or the positive feelings you get from owning something you enjoy?

In the case of the 222, a lot of the appeal is that VC resisted the urge to "modernize" the design (i.e. make it 44mm across and 15mm thick and give it a rubber strap) They just re-created the old watch as it was back then, but used updated movement materials.

I know what you mean and, in fact, before the current hype for them started, regular Royal Oaks and the like would languish, unsold as relics of the 70s with dated styling. (Offshores were really popular, though.) Patek didn't bother making many Nautiluses per year because there was no real demand.

Now, I don't think that any salesman has to work to move a 222. Probably gets more calls than there are watches the factory will ever make.

I would quite like if the second hand on a lunar pilot was a second hand not a chronograph second hand.
You got this smooth movement on a quartz and can't fucking see it unless using a chronograph this is so stupid.

Save up a little more and get a GS 9f.
>50 year service interval, can easily change the battery on your own every

>conservative looking with strong attention to detail

I own pic rel and absolutely love it. I've stored it away for months, and still keeps perfect time when I pull it out.
