Anon said he likes technology, so here's the cutting edge in power efficiency. It's a cool thing about them, yes i could change a battery once in three years, but it's a cool thing i won't have to.

The swiss cucks are bragging about their 50 and 70 hour power reserves. Well how many hours is in ten years? That's some technology for you, the swiss can't do that.

And even cooler than 10 years are the solar watches. They literally just run for 30 years until they are dead, then you get them fixed and they will run for another 30 until you're dead.

His house is surrounded by the trees so that you couldn't see it. Personally I loathe date windows, especially if the watch doesn't have an annual calendar. Don't get why do they have to shove this stupid date window in every watch, even to the cheapest shitters. To add to it in most cases it is the standard white and stands out as a sore thumb.

Except BVLGARI belongs next to Hublot, and Bulova belongs in cool on the account of having a high frequency quartz movement. It's basically the cheaper spring drive, not quite but it's smoother than any mechanical watch ever was.

Spring drive is great, but it's been invented back in the 80s. I'm talking about how Citizen are innovating today.

My guess is that the reason Citizen wouldn't make a high frequency solar quartz and instead put those movements into the ugly and obscure Bulovas is only out of respect for Grand Seiko.
They could just dunk on the entire market with all the technology they have.

This is where you are making a mistake.
No Sneedmaster isn't like every other chronograph. It's fucking sexy.

Due to it's historic significance Omega preserved the design unchanged and ufucked with. It has almost been 80 years and it still looks like a pragmatic time measuring tool it used to be.

The face of the watch is just so crisp, you can tell this watch is made for telling time and the older it gets the more special it feels. It is a genuine living piece of old school from back when the society was booming and rapidly developing rather than declining.

The only thing the moon landing did for this watch is cementing the design as iconic so that nobody would dare to "update" it.

The modern kit uses the precisionist movement which is a high frequency quartz that makes 15 steps per second, almost like their unique tuning fork watches once did. Not quite but in the same alley.

I believe the moonlanding happened but lately I'm honestly questioning what's going on with it because I've been listening to people talking about moon missions and there's a lot of stuff that NASA and adjacent agencies say about it that doesn't make a lot of sense.
>we haven't gone back because we destroyed the technology to do it
Why would you do that? And why couldn't you just build it again?
>getting to the moon is difficult because of an intense and lethal field of radiation between low earth orbit and the moon
Well, somehow we did it before, so why can't we do it again?

It's also known that NASA alters photos and footage that they publish, we know that because sometimes when they've been caught they admit that they altered images but they justified it by saying they don't alter media to hide things, only to make them "easier for the viewing audience to understand." but they do goofy things like turn up the red in photos of Mars to make it look more orange and red than it actually is. How does that make it easier to understand or consume? It's kind of just weird.

There's also that picture that's allegedly from the martian surface that has a rodent hiding next to some rocks.

>>17851374
It's awful in real life. You'll be disappointed if you already own a Speedy.

>>17851404
"broke down" assumes a mechanical failure. The watch worked, but the crystal had popped off. You can't use a watch on the moon if the crystal is gone, so you have to use something else. Given that the Bulova timers in the LM weren't working during Apollo 11, and Armstrong's Speedy was left inside the LM as a backup to Aldrin's Speedy which he was wearing outside, it's fair to say that all the tech suffered unexpected issues.

>>17851437
Try it on in person; it's large, reasonably finished for the price, and cumbersome. The quartz movement, while very good, is sad. If they'd made it with a proper mechanical like the original, it would be much more enticing to collectors. With the quartz movement, however, it's just a quartz watch disguised as the original which uses marketing cope to draw customers who can't afford the real thing.

>>17851476
The movement is special though; the original 321s were remarkable not only for their architecture, hardiness, and beauty, but also because they were far more adjustable than their successors, which allowed for everything to be fine-tuned in a way that wasn't possible later on. It's not just a meme...the 321 was better in many ways, but it did require a more talented watchmaker to manage it.

The problem isn't that they don't know how. The problem is that the money and infrastructure needed to get man to the moon is insane. The 1960s was a time of both A) economic growth at a level previously unseen in human history and B) a large-scale ongoing propaganda war between two superpowers. In 1965, 5% of total government spending went directly to NASA. Can you imagine the backlash if Biden suddenly declared that, in a period of social and economic crisis, 5% of the total US budget next year would go towards shooting dudes into space?

Surprisingly not in today's market. My 105.012-66, in original condition as mine is, would be around triple the Citizen 0100 on Chrono24. The value of old watches is dependent upon many different factors, but original condition (and how good that condition is) remains the key element that buyers look for.

>>17851590
And yet that could 'pull' their audience up. Consider what happened with the MoonSwatch. I'll say it again: if Bulova created a 1:1 replica, collectors would be interested and the customer who is normally willing to shell out 7k for a Moonwatch might want 'the alternative' for around the same price.

Remember that the only reason that the Bulova 'moon' watch even exists is because Bulova never got the contract to supply NASA, and there was a political push to equip the astronauts with all American gear. The company was encouraged by the government to keep on submitting their watches for consideration, but since both NASA and their astronauts were happy with the Speedy, there was no reason to reassess. There are many examples of later astronauts bringing samples (often paid for directly to the astronauts) from companies wanting their shit on the moon. There was even a scandal involving stamps...but that's another story.

I'd say, 'why buy an ugly watch?'. There are beautiful watches that are less expensive than a Speedy, for instance; lots of vintage, and even modern takes like a Longines Legend Diver or one of those Laco Fliegers. The only dicey part is whether or not the watch is worth less than the cost of servicing the movement.

I would love to; say the magic word.

Already has. My AD finally has stock, and it's been years since they had. Depends on your location and where you normally buy from.

No, you're not supposed to do things that can affect your hands and wrists with a watch. The older generation never chopped wood wearing a watch, or change spark plugs wearing a watch. They treated their watch with respect, because it was usually something special to them, and they usually had only 1 or 2 of them. If you care for it, it lasts a long time.

There are books that help which you can read to the child, but you can also have clocks around the house and make a game of it. "I bet you can't tell me when 5 minutes are up?"

Depends if you trust the dealer.

Disagree. Just be careful with delicate things. A 'tool watch' assumes that you're not abusing the item. A hammer is a tool, but so is a scalpel.
