It's kind of reddit and not that great, but I have pic related just because it's cheaper and I also got it on discount. It's good enough and would also look great with the ropers I'll never own. Aero also have cheaper ready to wear options you can look at if you wanna buy from the UK. I didn't, so that's why I'm stuck with the shitt.

Just for tge record, Schott's models that start with LC are not the american models, but rather approved by Schott jackets that are sold by its european distributors. They are not made in the USA and both the quality of the leather and the construction and durability are lower than the american made jackets. However, they retail for way less, go on sale regularly and are among the best in their price range (usually 300-450€).

Because it's supposed to catch onto stuff for extra grip.
The problem is that when you have a very tall, wide heel it looks stupid. So they do this design with smaller tapered heels giving them the characteristic "tranny heel" look.

The European (patrician) solution is to have narrow heels, with very closely trimmed heel blocks. Then you get a nice elegant heel without the need for "tranny heel".

If I compare the heel block of my Alden Indys to my most closely trimmed heel block (probably from TLB) it's probably 70% bigger. And I think PNW boots are even bigger than Alden who at least has heels two sizes narrower than the actual width of the rest of the shoe.

Anyone know a source for Thomas Heels?
This is the orthopedic extended heel that is used most famously in the Alden Indy. They're to help provide balance and better shock absorption to over-pronating flat feet. And they work really well. Try a pair if you have flat feet.

Unfortunately this brand, Soleguard, has discontinued this line and whatever sizes are left are it. My size is gone.
Apparently this brand was better than Alden's stock FootBalance thomas heels as they lasted 10x longer by most accounts.
Fuck.
If all else fails I'll have to have a cobbler make them from scratch but it'd be cheaper and easier to just find the heel itself.
I have a slew of Alden Trubalance shoes that don't have the Thomas heel. They'd be a lot more comfortable for me if they did.

Are loafers always going to have a bit of heel slip by nature?

I got my first ever pair of loafers and I thought maybe the high instep was making me have a little heel slip, so I bought a tongue pad and realized I can't put my foot in them with the tongue pad at all.
So the fit was nice and snug there all along.

I guess I am too dumb to sell boots on ebay

I've been trying for HOURS to figure out how to list them for sale and I always get errors regarding shipping
It refuses to accept that I am not American even though my addresses and the item are all listed as shipping from Europe. So it refuses to provide shipping calculations and I have to set a flat rate using services that I'm not familiar with (not even DHL is an option).

Even worse is how American shipping is just labelled "domestic" even though it's not, in fact, domestic.

Anyway I went to the UPS website to just check how much it would cost to ship a 50 x 50 Viberg box to Germany and it says the cheapest option (UPS standard) is 250€ so I'm just lost at this point

Just did 9 hours of fedex ground deliveries in a brand new pair of 6" JK OT boots prior to any proper break in, AMA

>>17847776
each brand seems to use a different material wedge sole. The crepe ones used on redwings are super soft and squishy (and wear out fast) thats why they are comfortable. The ones on thorogoods and the vibram ones are harder but last longer. The honey vibram on these JK's is not nearly as squishy as any wedge I've tried, just noticeably not as hard rubber as the black vibram lug soles.

I basically lined right up with 9.5 EEE on their chart which is the exact size I ordered. I think I'm a 9 EE on brannock but I have always had to size up in length from brannock to get boots to fit properly on my instep. Even so they were extremely tight on my instep to the point where I could not use the thick leather laces or kilties. Also very tight in the width even in EEE.

I don't know what last they are using for the OT, maybe a modified 55 last but compared to my Nicks HNW rangers in 10 EE they seem to have a little more arch support and sprung toe. They feel about the same in width as my nicks when new so I'm thinking JK runs narrow.

>> No.17847904

>>17847878
>>17847898
I'll also add that the stitching is all nice and parallel throughout but there was a ton of dried glue all over the insole, sock liner, and some coming from the seams of the leather which is not something I saw with my nick's. The brown 1964 leather on the nicks is much smoother and prettier than the leather they used on the JK as well but they are both heavy work leather so it's not a huge deal to me. I paid $450 for em as well after a discount code. I would say they are worth every penny of that but not much more going off the quality of leather and finishing.

Bonafe calls it "Janus Spice"
Looks a bit like Carmina Tobacco, and it's also meant to be Janus (from CF Stead) but the texture looks nowhere near as good as this does.

In all honesty this Meccariello pricing is not bad.

He's one of the best shoemakers in the world, getting a handwelted oxford from him in custom (extra) width for 620€ is not bad.
An equivalent goodyear welted oxford from TLB is like 530€ as an MTO for width, and TLB is best value for money on dress shoes.

>> No.17848838

I should also say that an equivalent handwelted oxford from Bonafe is probably around 800 for comparison. And Bonafe is not even THAT expensive compared to the likes of C&J, EG and G&G.

If you have normal or narrow feet, Carmina is known for their black chelseas and they have numerous RTW models of specifically black chelseas on their website.
If you can fit into a Simpson last Chelsea, that's as good as it gets.

If you don't have narrow feet, probably not worth buying a black chelsea, but TLB can do MTO at custom widths and they have really good dressy lasts.

My Brannock size is 10.5. I've been wearing size 12 sneakers forever because of width issues. Zero issues with sneakers.
But you will get heel slip with boots, and that probably will cause issues later down the road. I found that I had to tie laces tighter for boots and also add insoles. But aside from that, my feet get used to it.

Those are high arch boots, they are becoming popular because the high arch support keeps you from getting fatigued from working all day once broken in.
