This means my beat clothes which kind of made me look like a dirty college student won't cut it anymore.

I know this probably isn't entirely relevant but are there any good sales on loafers/oxfords around or do I have to wait for Carmina fall sales? I have good slacks and clothes but never nailed down the shoes because I always get them dirty so I choose durable over stylish.

I have whites really nice Otto Derbys back before they quit selling Derby shoes and focused entirely on boots. They are great with one complaint: they are built like boots. They are immensely heavy, the Dannite sole stomps like Godzilla is walking through town, and they are built like a tank. I did not care about getting them dirty because one brush and they were back to pristine.
They are also immensely stylish, they are what I'm going to be wearing until I can figure out what else I can wear.

good value for money, but most people skip straight over them, since they are not the cheapest entry level service boot and for a second boot most don't choose a slithly more expensive service boot again
i think the lasts are goofy and unrefined
they don't balance the heels, the heels tend to have extreme heel spring and don't sit flat with the ground, the back lifts up, this results in you being able to rock back and forth on them

Hi boot friends,

I'm the anon from previous thread who asked for advice in deciding between RW blacksmiths and iron rangers. I ended up goign to the store and picking up a pair of iron rangers 8085 (copper rough and tough) since they looked the best.

Question, are you supposed to wear these with an insole? Because, I tried it on instore without an insole and it was a good snug fit (I went with 9D, I usually wear 9.5 - 10 in most other shoes). I tried to put in an insole at home and it was way too tight, I wasn't able to wiggle my toes at all.

>> No.17838027

>>17838022
>Question, are you supposed to wear these with an insole?
Not if it's the right fit. I wear an insole on mine because a got them half a size bigger. If you got a snug fit wear them as is.
You might find the footbed a bit hard on the first wears, but they'll adapt to your feet.
Copper rough and tough was my first option, but ended up getting amber harness instead. Nice choice.

>> No.17838036

>>17838027
Main concern isn't the hardness but insulation/warmth. In winter, if I wear some thick socks I think it might be too snug.
>Copper rough and tough was my first option, but ended up getting amber harness instead.
I tried on the ambers too, it was a tough decision that came down to mostly "do I wear light pants or dark pants more often?"

>> No.17838065

Thick socks shouldn't be a problem with Iron Rangers, the leather will mold in no time. Try them on with said socks at home and see how they feel after an hour or two.

When I ordered shoes from TLB (size 9.5) I got the lasted shoe trees but because my shoes were H-width they actually put in size 10 shoe trees and it's a good fit but not super tight or anything.

So anyway I thought that's what "lasted trees" meant, overall a more snug fit than my typical Carmina or random Amazon shoetrees.

But then I received my Bonafe loafers and boy was I wrong. These lasted shoe trees fit just barely. In order to get them in you really need to be careful how you slide them in, and it's impossible to do it without an audible thunk from the air going out. It's -tight-

I find the Midas description of the leather so funny

So basically this guy has a buddy who travels through the Indonesian jungles every now and then to a secret tannery where he stays there for a few days to produce a batch of the good stuff, then comes back to civilization.
And they only do this rarely so supply is limited.

>> No.17839875

Looks like White's probably isn't an option for me.
My Brannock size is a 10.5, but my ball measurement is 11". White's only offers up to EE and my foot width would need a size 12 when the length is only a 9.5.

Anyone know of any boot companies that have barefoot width (like Lems), but doesn't have that stupid 2mm sole thickness?

The other option is Nicks or JK since they seem to have ultra wide options.

Tempting.
My idea of these PNW companies is like:
Whites: Great boots (with some recent QC issues), not so great customer service.
Nicks: Good boots, great customer service.
JK: Good boots, shit-tier customer service.

Great boots, great customer service, shortest lead times, but not a ton of options for heritage boots, but you can get it customized to how you want, so if you wanted you could get the Wilshire on a HNW last with a moderate heel with a toe cap, in any of their limited edition leathers basically change it to be anything you want it to be.

It depends on the type of leather, if it's a leather with a lot of depth like chromexcel/ double shot or veg tan don't do it it will change the look and make it very flat and dull also darken a lot.
