Around 2018 I thought I should smell good and started lurking. Eventually I got some safe buys and started sampling to avoid splurging like a retard
Since then, all I've worn is:

Prada L'Homme (work, general use)
Dior Homme Cologne (hot)

And i really love both.
I had a bottle of Musc Ravageur for around a year but got rid of it because it ended up being hard to wear, even though it was great.
So no cold weather or night time fragrance, just good old Prada L'Homme for that. I always think a full bottle for night time would be too much since my climate is generally warm.
Pic related is what I sampled so far, in a country where niche perfumery is inaccessible (not just expensive, really hard to get). So a house that is not-so-niche is key for me. It was hard to find an MDCI sample for example.

I feel ready to buy two of:
MFK Grand Soir
MMM Jazz Club
PdM Carlisle

All very safe, not so bad. The thing is you could have sampled all of these at the mall easily and you probably could have even brought a few mini-samples home to try for a few days, so you spent nearly $75 when you could have spent zero dollars instead.

I have a few vintage bottles. I don't know if you'd consider Eternity from like 2007 to be vintage but it is kind of old now. Also have some 80s vintage Dali pour Homme. It's nice but not really my style. I did fall for a /frag/ meme and I got a vintage bottle of Quorum from ~1993. I've fallen for a few memes here (the worst was Jovan Musk) but my vintage Quorum is probably my favorite fragrance in my collection. It's a beautiful fragrance. It opens with a bit of sharpness and it's got a resinous base that reminds me of incense. It's a great scent on blustery overcast cool days.

I just feel bad about using it sometimes since it's vintage and therefore irreplaceable in a way. I love vintage stuff but I prefer buying something I know they still make. I have a new bottle of Quorum that's not the same at all, it smells like bubblegum. Maybe I'll check back on it and see if it's aged and improved at all.

>> No.17838605

it's worth having a 1 oz bottle just to try it out, it's an amazing scent but as others say, it's performance kinda blows.

fresh spicy, and a subtle sweetness that balances out the bitter tobacco note. there's some cinnamon and leather in the background but neither note stands out. base definitely has a clean musk, but it's not a soap/dryer sheet vibe, it's just clean - i think the leather, tobacco keeps it from smelling like laundry like so many other musks out there.

as for the performance, i just wore it today and sprayed THE FUCK out of myself. the atomizer is strange , it gives a lot of juice but you can't control the spray so i end up doing like "half sprays" so it's hard to get enough out of the atomizer even though it's not bad. so i spray like 5 half-sprays on each of my forearms, and then i do like 8-10 full sprays on my collar/upper chest area so that i can still smell the fresh-spicy mid throughout the day. Then after my arms are dry , i did another 5 or so half-sprays on my forearms again.

Went to work, still wasn't a monster projector. at 3 hour mark i think my scent bubble was gone. Without spraying like Jeremy, you won't even get a scent bubble. The smell is so refreshing and good, i had an older female coworker that complains that fragrances give her a headache tell me she caught a whiff of it, and it smelled really good. It's 6 hours later after i sprayed and I'm getting that clean musky fresh vibe still on my skin. without spraying this much, i don't even think i ever noticed this fragrance even had a prominent musk in the base, but it's definitely there.

to summarize, it's a unique amazing scent, but you have to - bare minimum spray at least 5-6 full sprays plus a shit ton on clothes to get longevity or any kind of projection. you'll have to decide if 40 bucks is a good price point for you keeping how much juice you actually have to use to get noticed in mind.

One was some dark green Azzaro Pour Homme (I know there's a green mint one, but this one was darker green) and it smelled extremely aromatic and herbaceous. I liked it. Another was Tom Ford Beau De Jour. Didn't like this one at all, smelled astringent in the dream. The last thing was a small piece of real musk gland from a musk deer suspended in some oil. Smelled animal-like, but less so than I expected.

What does /frag/ think of cherry scents? I've been trying a lot of them because I rather like cherries. I've gone through lost cherry, cherry smoke, cherry punk, red d'amour and bendelirious, and I definitely get the best "just cherry" smell from red d'amour. I wouldn't really call bendelirious a cherry scent, but it is very fun/playful. I'm kind of disinterested in the tom ford line now, none of them really did anything for me. Any of you tried any of these and have different thoughts? Any experience with something I didn't list?

Definitely a noselet, but what’s your opinion on smoke and tar? I don’t think they smell bad, but they’re certainly not welcoming imo, so several of BeauFort’s frags would qualify, imo.

Not sure if you’re thinking H24 EdT or EdP, but EdT isn’t particularly unwelcoming to me, just… greenish. The banana note in the middle also made me laugh.

I need to go back to my Ganymede sample and test it some more. I couldn’t decide about it after a few weeks and moved on to other samples.

Just tried CdG 2. Shit's insane. I feel like i'm way out of my depth to even attempt to give my noselet newfag opinion on it. Smells like nothing I've ever tried before. I don't even know enough notes to properly describe this shit. I would never have guessed it was released in 1999. Seems way ahead of it's time, even now. There's a lot of different shit I'm getting at the same time: Tea bag, nutmeg, aldehydes, cinnamon, lipstick in additon to stuff that I lack the ability to describe. Getting lot of contradictons too; warm and cold, sweet and spicy. Almost like i'm smelling an entire fragrance circle. Mindblowing schizophrenic shit. I don't know if I "like" it but it's insanely addicting.

I work at a mall and every day I tried a new fragrance from the local fragrance shop on my skin. I tried the meme essentials that /frag/ loves, here are my opinions about them:

>Dior Fahrenheit
Opening really does smell like gasoline, dries down to a lovely mix of citrus, jasmine and lavender. 10/10
>Encre Noire
Not a fan of the strong vetiver. Reminds me of a muddy forest. This is probably a great reference fragrance but it's not for me. 6/10
>Dior Homme Intense
This smells like lipstick and really does smell like an old lady's handbag, don't see the appeal. 5/10
>Terre d'Hermes
Really does smell like I'm seeing described, zesty woody citrus. Great citrus scent but I feel it lacks that something special. 8/10
>Spicebomb
This is much better than the Extreme variant and it's a lot more spicy. Strong cinnamon note. 8/10

Next paycheck I'm buying Fahrenheit.

Order came in today:
Dunhill for Men 1934: definitely not my cup of tea, but pretty interesting nonetheless. Initially has a bit of urinal cake (maybe the carnation?), but is drying down to something mild woody spicy. Will try again, see how things go.
Lalique pour Homme EDP: Fucking fantastic. Wood and lavender, with a little powder down below. Absolutely incredible, and definitely coming into the rotation immediately.
