Thanks Fren. I love them too. The Waltham was found at a jewellery store in my city; they were selling it on the cheap, and didn't really know the value. Granted, they said they had serviced it, but they clearly hadn't. So, I took it to my watchmaker, and he had original spare parts and everything, so he got it up and running properly. The Zenith is a star though; the movement is considered the most accurate movement of its type prior to the quartz crisis. The performance holds to the promise...over the year, it beat my Citizen 0100. That's not bad.

That's okay; what you have to watch out for is a few things:
1) Quality control: it's always shit, unless you're buying from HKED. Even mine was full of dust and shit. It will be better/worse but not necessarily predictable.
2) Make sure you take it to a trusted watchmaker to have them adjust it to be within a decent spec. Mine is running +0.5 seconds per day, but only because I had my watchmaker clean it and bring it up to par.

The movement (the old Venus 125? Can't remember the number) is a good, reliable movement, and was used in many watches of the period. So, the architecture isn't the problem. The problems come with dust, debris, poor assembly, etc. If you counter that issue by having it lightly serviced, then it's a fun watch.

I'd say don't worry. If you get it and it runs within say 10 seconds per day either way, you win. Wind it up, wear it, and enjoy the feel of a column wheel lateral-clutch chronograph. In it's working functions, it is similar to a Speedy 321, and that's not bad.

Laco is the closest to the originals, Stowa has an onion styled crown and fits the wrist better because it has curved lugs. The Laco has straight lugs and will always look oversized. I've done Speedy, Semenmaster, Carrera, Navitimer, IWC... I'm not overly impressed by anything I've owned, yet many people rate my pieces as exit watches, while I bought them on a whim. I like the idea of this but they really should have used an actual handwind movement. All the brass color is cool but it's ruined by the unfinished steel components of what remains of the rotor. You can tell something is missing. It's clear they bubba'd an automatic movement to make the watch happen.

like 38-42, i have a pretty normal sized wrist. for scale the casio duro lug to lug covers my wrist almost perfectly but i would rather it not be too bulky.

Odds are I'll end up having to wind it every day that I decide to wear it since it won't be every day. If and when I decide to spend more money on one, of course I'll have higher standards.
