Anybody familiar with Scania watches?
My dad was working for a trucking company which was partnered up with Scania - a Swedish truck manufacturer - and he got this watch as a gift from them probably 15 years ago. It's stainless steel, really solid build, weighs about 180 grams but I have no idea how much it would be worth

Nope…it was worn by my grandfather the day he died and I plan to wear it at my wedding next month. So not gonna sell it regardless. Just a curiosity, because like you I’ve never seen anything. My research led me to “Accutron Art Deco” that was similar but in silver and only on an eBay seller’s page, so I don’t think that’s the official name. I’ve found nothing else on it. I’m guessing it was made in the 1990s, before the Citizen/Bulova merger. Not sure if it’s quartz or a tuning fork, but it’s not mechanical. It’s 100% accurate with its ticks and is silence, so I want to say tuning fork. The jeweler did say he had to order a special battery for it. I brought it in 2-3 years ago and he remembered it right away because of its uniqueness’s It could even be a women’s watch.

Yeah he himself is a Bulova dealer and he said they’re rare and can fetch a pretty penny to collectors.

Will look more into it myself

It's a late 1980's-mid 1990's Accutron Empire, inspired by the Empire State Building. "Accutron by Bulova" was Bulova's premium sub-brand competing with the better known swiss brands, with watches selling at around $700-1000 new. They are well made watches with Harley-Ronda swiss quartz movements. They were sold through select high-street jewellers and ads in fancy magazines. Empire was their art-deco inspired flagship line, they came in cool boxes like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374452830241?hash=item572f20c021:g
They are usually going for a few hundred bucks, chronographs are more expensive. Try and drop a mail to Bulova's museum/archives, they might be able to tell more.

Not the whole brand, certain ranges or models. Try getting anything for women's rolex, or an older cellini, or any AP cept the royal joke or a calatrava not including the current new one that's impossible to get for a non long established patek buyer.
The meme models/lines might pull the value of the rest of the lineup up as well, but the reputation for "holding value" is built on only a few key pieces and not the entire brand as a whole.bAnd of the three, rolex is the only one that's consistently been seen as a "sure thing" with menlm's steel sports models.
Now that the hype mania of the past few years is over see what models are now easier to get a hold of closer to or at retail compared with before and you'll see that it's the same key models that are going for retarded markups whilst everything else settles back down to whogivesashit status.

At the moment I wear a Casio A700 which I love but I want to have something less minimalist in my collection too with some unique and sovlful tools packed into it, but such watches are usually too big for me. No, just my local watchmaker. The architecture is nothing special so any watchmaker will know how to work on one. Mine runs very well when it's fully wound, it took a full month to be a minute fast, otherwise it's about + or - 10spd.

Not sure if you mean the GA-B2100. If you do it's a nice design but make sure you get one with a positive display. Get it if you like how it looks. Out of the models you mentioned it would be the smallest and likely most comfortable.
>gw6900
I have one and while it looks great it's really hard for me to use since it doesn't show the current time in the stopwatch and timer modes. If you don't use those modes or don't care about seeing the current time it's a good alternative. I put it on a bracelet which costs more than the watch.

Personally the cheapest solar I would go for is the GW-B5600SL. It might be a bit more than the models you mentioned but it's something I wouldn't find lacking.

That's a catch 22. The watch used to be cheaper back when money was much more valuable. The watch has increased in price with the price hike by retail, yes, which made it almost double but not quite. However, it hasn't gone up with inflation since our economies went to shit. 5k today is like 3k 10 years ago which was the going rate (round about). So with inflation the piece is actually the same cost as it was before the price hike. That's why I bought a mint/unwon piece at 5k. Sure it's a lot of money but so was 3k back in the day. I mean, remember that you could get steel sports Rolex at 5k those days. Now it's double. Our currency has gone to shit.

Things definitely do get more expensive though even when you compensate for inflation. It's definitely the case in watches specifically, I know because sometimes in watch circles the topic of the communist revolutionary leaders in Cuba and South American countries wearing 2 Rolexes comes up and the commies trying to defend such a seemingly consumerist and not very socialist act defend it by saying Rolexes weren't as expensive then. The problem is if you compare the prices of a submariner today with the price of a submariner or GMT master then and adjust for inflation they would have still been a few thousand dollars each, which obviously is cheaper than they are today but still far more money than most people would ever spend on a watch and considerably more than the people they claimed to be fighting on behalf of could ever spend on a watch. And they each wore two at once. They even gifted each other Rolexes. They were just rich kids that passed around expensive gifts and played revolutionary and used poor people to put themselves in power and never helped the poor people they said they were fighting for. And obviously now that Rolex has pivoted from high end tool watch image to a luxury watch image the relative prices have gone through the roof.

You're saying that the only goods that experience "inflation" are the specific goods measured by jew government fake statistics. And you're saying that if a good that is not measured by the jew government fake statistics (a watch, for example) goes up in price, that is not an example of inflation. The only way you could possibly be such a dishonest faggot is if you are also a jew who benefits from the jews constantly printing money. Otherwise you would disapprove of your disposable income being stolen through money printing.

The companies that make watches have higher rents, material costs, employee costs, distribution costs, marketing costs, etc, due to inflation, so of course the final retail prices of watches will increase.

Only a retard could misunderstand something so simple. Let me try to break it down so even you can understand: inflation is measured by consumer prices which don't include luxury watches. Here are watch prices in the last year. Does this match the CPI? Does it make sense to pay more when watches sell for less?

The value of watches on the used market is irrelevant in the context of retail prices of brand new watches (which went up with inflation). As a result thereof, the used market increased in many cases.

>inflation is measured by consumer prices which don't include luxury watches

Leaving aside the nonsense you're spewing, with inflation currency is devalued, goods (all of them) go up at the same rate therefore paying more $ while cost is the same, hence why most, but not all, watches have not become more expensive, the rates have changed.

His only rebuttal would have to be that watch prices increased because of the inflating costs of other areas of the market like consumer goods or housing. Which is just a really long way of saying watch prices ARE affected by inflation.

You should buy the 311 reference while you can. Those big box sets are becoming legendary, the model is pop culture "THE" speedmaster already. They will be the next 321 tier pieces because the package was so unique. That big fucking box with that Moonwatch in it. Compare it to the half assed cost cutting of the new Speedy and you'll see why they are being sold for less on the used market nowadays.
