I like this fragrance but I feel it's very situational.
To my nose, it's a heavy and wet vetiver that almost reminds me of chocolate. It dried down to some soft musky thing quickly though.
I thought it would be darker just like what the name implied, as in black ink, but whatever it's a cheapie.
Will have to try on a colder day

Noselet here, went to a local shop to pick up my first (full) bottle of TdH EdT, as well as a sample of the Eau Givrée.

While I was there I checked out some Frederic Malle frags. They still had bottles labeled Bois d’Orage, didn’t care for the scent at all though. Tried Monsieur as well and was surprised how faint it was. Maybe I just didn’t get a good spray on the tester strip, but I didn’t even bother requesting a sample.

The two real reasons I’m blog-posting though is because Musc Ravageur and Synthetic Jungle. I wasn’t expecting MR to be so powdery… I was expecting something much more animalic, is that frag specific, or common with musks? As for the SJ, holy shit this stuff projects. I only put it on a test card and it filled my car and hours later I can still smell it feet away. My question though, is that actually a good example of a “green” frag? To me it comes off as much, MUCH more floral than ‘green’, but I’m not even sure if I know what “green” smells like at this point.

Also based on the name alone grabbed a sample of Carnal Flower, and am now slightly regretting not looking up to see that it’s a heavily feminine frag.

hello bros, so I got an EDT (montblanc legend)
and I'm a complete newfag to using this stuff. I didn't go anywhere today so i tried it out by doing one spray on each side of my neck and one spray on each inner wrist (4 total) and i think that was way too much. i could smell it so strongly on myself to the point of my nose stinging a bit. around 2 hours later i could still smell it easily but it wasn't bothering me anymore. Im thinking 1 or 2 sprays before going out is probably going to work much better but then i don't know how to distribute it properly, especially if it's only 1. straight in the middle of the neck? on one wrist and pat my other wrist and sides of neck? one on each side of the neck and no wrists? what do?

>Truly vile. Spectacularly repulsive. I bought a 30 ml based on the reviews across several forums, expecting a modern interpretation of Bois du Portugal, with a bit of Guerlain thrown in for good measure. What I got, instead, was an immediate blast of ancient woman/funeral parlor with something obnoxious and acrid (pepper, maybe?) poorly blended in. I can smell each horrible note separately. I don’t know how this is rated so high. It is, bar none, the worst thing I have ever put on my skin. And, to make matters worse, it lasts FOREVER. It took two showers, scrubbing with a washcloth, to rid myself of the funk.

i have that F-black by ferragamo and love it.

i didn't like it at first because i got that baby wipe smell, but it is an illusion. once you pick out the black pepper note, all the powder turns to creaminess and there's a sweet-clean vibe that is SMOOTH and doesn't just hit you with the usual boring "soapyiness" that so many of these frags have.

at first i thought it was too linear and now i appreciate that smoothness that just lasts and lasts...

I love the original spicebomb. It is such a nice spicy smell. Tows the line between fresh spicy and warm spicy. The extreme version is a lot more boring because it has a lot of sweet vanilla which just isn’t my style — but a lot of people do prefer that.

But yes the original spicebomb is an incredible smell imo. It is peppery, cinnamony, paprikay, maybe even a bit of a musky cumin and a bitter dried grapefruit rind. I like to wear it fresh out of the shower with a white tee shirt on a colder day. I’m not the most experienced fragrance expert on the board but as a 23 year old I am very, very happy I bought it.

Here is a trick for anyone who doesn't know how to judge seasonality of a scent.

If you keep a library of music on your phone and play it on shuffle in your car, you will notice you tire of songs after a month or two. this happens with the changing of the seasons—don't remove them right away, unless the song really has become hateful/cringe, not just a bit tired.

If you let songs accrue this way and stay for 1yr+ you will notice clear seasonal cycles. I won't give examples as they may be different for each person, but you certainly will notice.

Now when you try a fragrance, you can put on enough that you smell it when you are driving, and pay attention to anything out-of-season to which you feel compelled to listen. This will give a strong and natural indication of the true seasonal nature of the fragrance.

Also, this is another topic, but you can 'use' seasons theatrically, rather than trying to blend yourself to the seasons
