You guys mostly discuss 6" or slightly shorter boots here. What are your thoughts on 8" boots? Are they cringe? Uncomfortable for daily use?

Not sure if my first pair of boots should be a ~6" like a regular service boot style or perhaps taller boots like the 8" moc toe or Crockett&Jones Snowdon(whatever height that boot is).

>>17820270
what the fuck? you got scammed bro
there is supposed to be a rubber midsole that is glued and then stitched on to the welt, the wedge is then glued on to the rubber midsole
they make it that way because the bond between rubber and leather is really weak like what you have on your boot, but rubber to rubber is really strong
your shit will unglue so fast
they just removed the old sole and left the old welt stitches as decoration
you can literally just pull them out yourself, because they are not held on by anything

most of the PNW brands have no idea how to work with cordovan and because it's a lot more ridig they just rip it apart when lasting, that is why they don't offer it and whan they do the price is astronomical
i don't think cordovan lends itself well to stitchdown construction, i just don't think you can restitch over it all too many times before it just cracks apart, i know viberg does it and they are they omnipotent gods, so i may be wrong on that
it's is quite water sensitive and can get permanent water spots, especially the cheap shit not from horween
shell is too expensive for actual work work boots, so it's just for hipster hobby "work"
it looks like ass in my opinion if you just want to neglect it, beat it to shit and let them say filthy
if you are not even brushing it what is even the point in paying out the ass for it
it is really sensitive to solvents and certain cleaners can really fuck it up more than other leathers

i'm convinced 90% of people walk around with the wrong shoe size thanks to the pinch the toe box method for checking size. the most important metric is is from back off heal to the ball of your foot, second is width at the ball of the foot, and third is the toe box and even then extra room in the toe box is a good thing

I'm really glad that I'm not the only one, I've felt like a total moron for the last couple of days after finding out.
They just didn't have E sizes on the shelf when I was a kid (small town shoe stores). I didn't even realize it was an option until I started wearing boots and had to get familiar with sizing, by which time I'd already been wearing D sizes for years.

>>17821825
Agreed. After wearing some better-fitting shoes, it feels completely different.

>>17821830
Once your feet get some breathing room and spread out a little, they don't want to go back.
I got a pair of saguaros (minimalist, zero drop, 5mm padding, wide toe box, looks almost as stupid as the toe shoes), and they're hands-down the most effective shoes I own. It's not even close. My posture is better, my stride is smoother, I feel lighter, and I feel completely stable when I walk and run on any terrain. I think the wide toe box (and lack of heel to some extent) is the reason for that.
I would love a good pair of leather boots that fits well enough to feel that way.

>> No.17821848

this is very common because most cheaper shoes get made in a standard width and people usually just compensate by going up in length. modern shoes are so full of padding that you can do that

When Americans buy import boots like Grant Stone from China do you really not have to go through the hassle + payment with customs?
Do you just allow Chinese imports freely, no questions asked?

For me there would be a delay, I'd sometime get a call and then have to pay many different flat flees plus a +24% VAT on the price. And the more I delay, the more I'd have to pay.
And it's a process. There's phonecalls to do. Emails to send. Payments to confirm. It's not seamless at all.
They might even call you to go to the customs office in person.
