I wouldn't, G-Shocks are only based on two ends of the price list. The incredibly cheap resin ones you're going to actually beat up and use as intended, and the incredibly expensive MR-G ones where you're basically making an anti-fashion statement by spending thousands of dollars on a stealth luxury "beater" watch over some wanky big boy watch.

Spending hundreds of dollars on a steel G-Shock is pointless if you are actually going to punish it in the great outdoors but at the same time the basic full metal ones still don't have the manufacturing cachet to be truly anti-fashion like the hand finished MR-G is.

I think it's a good design but look at real pictures and videos because it's glossy and that might not be what you're expecting. If you do buy it I think the price is a bit high so check ebay for open box models. There is also the matte black model which is cheaper but the top part of the bezel is a bit reflective and scratches easy. I don't think you can go wrong if you know what to expect, they are heavy steel watches at 167g.

Have you not noticed their drive to be considered more upmarket? At this point I'm certain they're purposely overpricing their watches with the misalignment, awful bracelets, poorly regulated movements they've always had and now bad specs compared to microbrands and AliExpress brands just to improve the cachet of their premium models.
Like they do this thing for each of their "legendary" models like the Turtle or Tuna where there's a shit mall watch option that will be insulting even for $500 and then a $3,000 version that is actually passable. You buy the $500 one correctly concluding that $3,000 is a retarded amount of money for a Seiko and yet, you know that the $3,000 one won't have that misaligned chapter ring, its sapphire crystal wouldn't have gotten that scratch the hardlex crystal got in the first week of ownership and you'd be getting a far more reasonable +/- 10 second a day rather than +/- 45 seconds a day and thus the longing begins.

Given enough time, they will no longer need to produce $500 shitters because everyone will have concluded that only $3,000 gets you a Seiko worth buying.

Bearing in mind $100 watches are either going to be a somewhat decent Quartz or a Seiko movement and those aren't considered to be especially fragile either.
But I'll add to that in pointing out that durable watches don't just cost $2000, they cost $2000 plus the cost of servicing it over how ever many times it needs servicing in your life and that can cost more than $100 itself as well.

The fact that it's a custom that waiters and waitresses depend on tips to make up their salary, but that it's also a gratuity you don't need to pay if you don't want to. So we could be in a cafe having a discussion about how terrible it is that slaves in China get paid so little, while at the same time I could be having a waiter running around after each and every whim I have and at the end of the day decide, nah I wasn't happy with the service and I'm not giving a tip. Again this is no doubt part of this >>17810803 that $450 service cost is much easier to swallow for a watch that cost $3000 than it does for a $500 watch, essentially you buy the $500 Turtle and when it costs $450 to service it and realise they recommend you service it every 3 goddamn years, that's going to quickly add up to the $3000 for the premium Turtle anyway.

It's also an important part of nation building, fact is that while the United States is the wealthiest nation in history now it wasn't always so rich, its earliest economic activity was unironically dependent on slavery and when industrialisation came men, women and children all worked long hours, without two day weekends in unsafe working conditions where getting maimed and rendered unable to work would have you out on the street and people had to riot and get shot even to change this because the powers that be were so unwilling to not treat people like slaves.

There's no way China or any poor nation can just snap their fingers and go from impoverished agricultural backwater to modern industrial power without that rather brutal process, if they could and did, that would seriously cast US history in a new light.

Yes,I bought it for that reason, the reissues being extremely expensive considering the specs, I mean, they make a 1800 watch limited edition, put a mid tier movement (not even base GS) that you can get in a 600€ watch, and change some of the sizing so the next reissue they can change a bit its size and keep milking the 62mas reissue. So I said, fuck it and I spent 400€ on a chinese watch with apparently a Sellita movement that runs at +3spd,it has a sapphire glass, and a cerqmic bezel while the original 4000€ reissue has aluminium. And the best part is that the watch has the same size as the original vintage watch,no more,no less.

Like Anon ITT has a Seiko where the servicing was quoted at $450 when the movement itself is only $200, so what's the point of that? The watch is a write off on its first service, while a quartz will just need a battery change.

I feel like being immersed in the watch hobby shifts the concept of what is a reasonable price. When you are surrounded by 10,000€ watches 600€ sounds like pennies when that can get you some nice midrange technology that lets you do or experience cool stuff as opposed to a watch with a cheap off the shelf movement and subpar finishing.

Quartz watches tick, usualy once per second, because they use less electricity that wayand the battery will last you a reasonable amount of time. Some tick 4 times a second, but they're rare.
Mechanical watches also tick, anywhere from 4 to 10 times a second, because that's the nature of the mechanical movement.
Spring Drive is a sort of quartz mechanical hybrid (it's complicated so i won't go into it now) and it doesn't tick, it glides.

Yes. My wardrobe is old money Italian labels. Don't drive a Tesla either. Only a bitch would care about how nice something looks first and not see the two things in combination. A cheap and meaningless watch is irrelevant and basically will never be remembered by anybody. You would only buy it if you won't be remembered either.

If the watch is so fucking great why didn't the owner just give me one reason he bought it straight up? One reason other than
>it looks nice

Seriously tell me how it is remarkable, tell me how it isn't just a mega corporation making a throwaway product with a dated design. If you buy an Omega you should buy a real one, not a nu-Omega that was invented some 10 years ago.

Don't come at me with that
>yachting Seamaster
bullshit. The AT has nothing in common with the old on-deck Seamaster, the dress watch that is. Just because they put boat deck dials on it it doesn't make it so. It's a watch that competes with the 3-hand Carrera, that's the only reason Omega brought it out. It was meant to be an entry level Omega to compete with Tag.

It's not a real watch, it's something thought up by marketing people in a board room 20 years ago.

I don't have a single favourite brand but if I had to pick one that I don't currently own, it'd be Vacheron, and one that I currently own, probably Heuer (the old one).
