What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

I have a pair of Vibergs in brown CXL
I really like them, but the fit is bad and I will probably sell them.

I'm thinking of ordering a pair of Carmina boots in brown CXL instead. But I never really liked the brass eyelets.
What eyelets should I pick when I make the Carmina boots?

I'm still not 100% sure on the brown CXL route. I really liked the leather but I would also like an even darker color too.

I love mine, I’ve had them for 3 years at this point and they’re still going strong, especially considering how fast I wear out shoes. Don’t worry about the elastic breaking or stretching out, but the leather itself will stretch. Make sure to try some on in person if you can, the sizing is kinda fucking weird. And honestly, they’re not super great for rainy days because of said elastic on the side, it will absorb water there. But if it’s a light rain, they’ll be fine.

Seems a bit excessive but that doesn't even apply in this case since according to you the sizing guide on that site tells you what size feet goes with what size boot so you do not have to add anything. a goodyear welt is a completely flat piece of leather
a storm welt is a thick piece of leather craved into a T shape and is supposed to fill the gap/crease between the welt and the upper that is tucked under the footbed
a reverse split welt is basicly a normal flat welt that is cut from one side and flipped up to make the T shape of a storm welt

realistically it's pure esthetics, it doesn't help with water proofing almost at all

Not really similar to any last i have. Average at the heel, fairly narrow waist, tall instep, average to narrow at ball/toebox and they are really short. I ask for feathered width at the ball & toebox now.
Compared to a Coniston, its definitely more narrow at the ball and toebox if you go TTS, i'd probably recommend to go 0.5 up generally.

the construction method has no impact on the fit really
it's all about the last
if anything the flimsy canvas gemming is just that little bit more flexible when walking compared to a thick carved holdfast, but arguably you may find the better rigidity and support of the thick insole preferable
the gemming on really old shoes is almost always unglued in spots, if you watch resole videos, which isn't that big of a deal really, since you just reglue it
handwelted is obviously better and lasts longer, but by the time you need a rewelting and the difference between handwelted vs canvas gemming really becomes relevant it's already been a couple of resoles

let's say not having a carved insole isn't a dealbreaker for a boot, but on a really nice expensive pair i would expect to have it

>> No.17814617

>>17814564
i think this one will look the best as a casual boot, not sure how it will work on a plain toe
second choice elbamat and it's the safer, more versitile option
cxl is too much of a gamble with creasing
waxy commander is supposed to scratch easily and show it, so if you don't want that don't get it, you can make it uniform by applying a waxy conditioner

been wearing these second hand sorrel duck boots for a while now, and I got to say they are one of my favorite.

The wool liner and gusseted tongue means I can wear them pretty snug without laces if im not hicking or moving a lot, or I can lace them if I am. I work in a shop standing up a lot in front of a grinder and cooling stuff in water so my foot gets wet a lot.

for some reason my left foots toe feels a bit squished but not the right though.

Unfortunate. Buying cowboy boots in Europe seems like a bit of a pain.
A few good brands here in the US, just off the top of my head: Anderson Bean, Lucchese, Tecova, Chisos, Ariat. You'll have to look around a bit to see who can ship to Europe. I think there are also one or two brands in Europe making Western-style boots, but I couldn't comment on names or quality.

naked and famous denim operates the same way

they know what people want to buy, but making it would mean they just get that and move on, so they make it super limited on purpose, just enough to generate hype around the brand

you could try corcorran jump boots, that kind of thing. it depends on if your milsurp look is 70s/80s punk/technotrash milsurp or gwot chic. a lot of gwot footwear was off the shelf commericial hiking/tramping boots because most mil-specific/arsenal designs are actually fucking trash. reason is the commercial market is much larger and has a much higher turn-over so the r&d budgets are significantly larger than a bunch of ncos putting together a dress-reg cope shoe. they're just better footwear. the british operated with an approved list of commercial designs that could be worn in the field without interference from command, a lot being ankle height hiking boots from name brands.

I'm after some comfy shoes to wear on a holiday where I'll do a fair amount of walking, but I am getting a bit too old for Nikes.

Is it "OK" to get these Timberlands with the brown sole, or is it dumb to buy Timberlands and not opt for the white sole. I know it's not a big deal either way. I like these boots because they don't have a stacked heel, which somehow works better for my flat feet.

1. I've never used shoe trees, as I prefer to have them mold to my feet properly. If anything, having a very small fan drying the boots if my preference. I dislike the stretched ou and flattened look that you get with cheap shoe trees, thus I never use them unless they came with the shoe, which would and should be made to fit with the shoe.
>>17817141
Any proper cobblers, ie. actual European craftsmen and not shitskin scammers? You'll usually get everything you need there. Just a heads up, leather glued to leather will prevent the leather from drying out properly. If anything, have the leather heel patch be quilt-sttched with a machine. It'll be secure and will not cause mold growth.
