If you're a fragrance noob you should go to a store and test the popular YT/TikTok fragrances on your skin. The stuff recommended here is for fragrance heads, even from the flowchart and chart. For example Eau Savage and Encre Noir are not as safe smelling and mass appealing as the popular stuff. For fall/winter I'd recommend:

Dior Fahrenheit (leather/gasoline type smell)
Spicebomb (unironically good)
Le Male Le Parfum (smells like pure vanilla sex to ladies)
Dior Homme Intense (try before buy, top rated designer)
PDM Layton (overused but still good, good choice for babby's first niche)

Start with these and when you become more experienced you can move into the niche stuff.

>t. Blind bought it (only partially influenced the the schizo poster) and got both good and bad comments on it at work due to the intensity.

Two side comments 1: After wearing it for a while, I think the akigalawood comes off as a slightly body odor-ish scent to me personally (didn’t figure this out till I noticed the same scent in Ganymede). 2: The sillage is legit crazy. Gone as low as a single spray to the neck and had a coworker still comment on it just by walking past from a distance.

Gotta say, when I went in to test Etruscan waters and black knight, I also tested sticky fingers and was surprised at how similar all 3 were to start off. Didn’t even bother getting a sample of the sticky fingers.

Was also really cool, went to a store in an upscale area ~30 min away from me with the intention of testing the Terre dHermes, walked in asking to try the edt, and they gave me the full sample kit with all 4, and when I commented they had H24 they gave me that as well without even asking, actually had them put one back when they tried to give me two. Walked out with 5 samples after not spending a dime, and simple gestures like that make me really look forward to doing business with them.

I want to love SBE way more than I do. Everything I’ve read about it spoke of wild sillage with hours and hours of longevity, but on my skin the sillage is moderate to weak, and doesn’t even last as a skin scent past a couple hours at most. Even asked a couple people on more than one occasion and they couldn’t smell it either, so it’s not just nose-blindness. As for the scent itself. It leans much sweeter than “spicy” as I had originally hoped, which I don’t mind, it still smells good, just not what I expected. Still planning to try the OG Spicebomb.

You can see my opinion on BI here >>17799613 I really can’t overstate the sillage and performance, I’m talking able to be smelled from 7-8+ feet away and lasts 12+ hours. It’s a double edged sword though because as I said, there were complaints of this as well (not to my face). Go light with it for sure.

TdH I’m still testing, only used EdT once so far, but definitely enjoyed it. Can’t judge the sillage but performance is moderate. Every time I caught a whiff of it I couldn’t help but think to myself “Damn I smell good.” I’m kind of thinking of wearing the EdT this week and the EdP next week but since summer is essentially over here, I’m also considering testing the Pacific Rock Moss and Bohemian Lime first.

A few days later (and after discussion of promises to dial it back) I just did 2 on the neck and still got the comment of being able to smell it from the 7-8 feet away, but she said it wasn’t as bad.

I haven’t even put the PRM or the BL on my skin yet, just the tester strips, so can’t speak to those really. The vague memory was they were both fresh and a light, both citrus-y with the BL obviously being more so. Don’t remember the PRM as well.

The desert rosewood though, gorgeous. I bought that a while ago and wore it for a week or so. Had gone into the store looking for “spicy” fragrances (hence the vapeurs diablotines and Scorpio rising) and saw this and tried it on a whim. The opening is a touch peppery in the front with a little more floral/woody on the back end. What sold me on it though was I would randomly get a whiff of it later in the day and it was so pleasantly -warm-! I don’t even remember what exactly the smell was when I caught that later scent, I just remember that it vividly invoked a feeling of warmth and comfort. Moderately to long lasting, 6-8~ I think. Unsure of the sillage. I know I got one comment while it was still relatively recent on my skin, 2-4 hours, but she was also in pretty close proximity. She also commented that it was “less masculine” than some of the others I had been wearing, but I honestly didn’t care, love the scent.

>> No.17799754

I am definitely a noselet, so take all my comments with a grain of salt, especially >>17799741 that’s written more from the emotion/feeling it evoked rather than memory of the smell.

As for BK, EW, and SF, all three I’ve only had on a tester strip, and even then each was back to back to back, zero dry down, maybe 5-10 minutes max on the strips while the woman running the shop prepared my decants.

That said, I do remember all 3 being remarkably ’similar’ to each other, to my nose in that short period of time, enough so that I decided to only get BK and EW, perhaps they needed more time.

All that being said, Iron Duke is more of what I was expecting/looking for in The Dark Knight, but all of this is tentative until I actually put it on skin in like a month or so time.

Must be a fan of Frederic Malle, a lot by him, don’t recognize the brand or any of the scents though. Here's a review of some samples I ordered, they threw some in some for free so don't call me dumb for "buying" them. I tried all of these on my skin except for the ones I explicitly say I didn't.

PDM Kuhuyan
generic green smelling with some leather. natural smelling. surprisingly sweet. kind of like you put some vanilla flowers in between the cushions of a nice leather couch.

Tom Ford Oud Wood
like a dark old tree. something in it that smells clean. smells like frat boys in a musty log cabin out in the woods.

Etat Libre d’Orange Exit the King
smells citrusy, like an orange and a lemon, but very clean, like a freshly polished and bathed lemon. smells like something you would put in your hair, noticeably chemical smelling like bug spray.

Gucci Gucci
very generic. like spicy Axe Body spray with a hint of wood. smells like a freshly bathed middle schooler playing Minecraft in his room when his parents are going through a divorce. (didn't put on skin)

Carolina Herrera CH Mens Sport
smells like hot topic if they also sold gym equipment, very chemically (didn't put on skin)

Dior Homme Eau
slight citrus and violet but plastic and a little sweet. smells like a gay guy in a locker room after swimming.

PDM Greenley
very clean, citrus and orange and a touch of wood with some violet, sweet. very natural smelling and deep, high quality, like biting into a juicy orange. it’s exactly like a mandarin orange. citrus without any level of smelling like chemical/cleaning supplies.

Dior Fahrenheit EDT
very masculine, gasoline and rubber with a touch of leather and a surprising amount of citrus. every other one of these fragrances smell like they’re for women compared to this. it’s surprisingly fresh, it’s not like rotting tires or gasoline from a rusting old 1977 Chevy, it’s more like new sports car. smells like a millionaires freshly cleaned garage

Dior Homme Sport 2021 EDT
citrus wood gym. very generic. smells like an orange taped to a pine tree

>> No.17800456

>>17800454
Ralph Lauren Ralph’s Club Parfum
sweet vanilla with a lot of spice and some “blue” to it, a little bit of green/wood in there. like Old Spice but “blue” and sweet, kind of powdery and grandma-esque

Comme des Garcons Black EDT
I recoiled when I smelled this, smells like black licorice with 2 pounds of spice on it and smoke. Smells like huffing a shaker of pepper, or the soles of gym shoes that just got done running on asphalt in October

Dior Sauvage Elixir
Blue cotton candy with spice and some wood. Very sweet, pretty spicy.

Dior Eau Savage EDT
Like bitter lemonade and wood and the forest. Seriously just like those hard lemon candies.

HOLY. SHIT. and I stress the Holy. This is the first fragrance where I have literally been mesmerized. I had smelled GIT by Creed. Wasnt impressed for the price. Millesime Imperial, which I like a lot, but not for the price. After those two I just wrote off the Creed House as overpriced and not worth the products produced. However, I was strolling through Neiman Marcus and gave this one a try in attempts to crush the what I was certain to be hype. I was so taken aback I shouted "My God" out loud in the store. I have NEVER smelled anything quite like this. Never. So incredibly unique. Inspired by Napoleon? I believe it. It smells like power. I understand that is an obnoxious statement but congruent with my reaction and the perfume's inspiration.

I walked out of Neiman Marcus with Aventus on my hand, to check it with my chemistry, to meet my gf in the hair salon. I walked into a wall of compliments. Every woman in the salon was in awe. Walk out of the salon, a male stranger passes, walks back to me and taps me on the shoulder to ask what cologne I was wearing. That has never happened in my life. I intend to purchase the 4.0oz after my next pay period as well as the shave balm. Before smelling Aventus I would have thought I was outside of my mind to purchase a $300 fragrance. But I believe it is because I know my search for my perfect/signature scent is over. I will always have a few staples in the collection; Fahrenheit, Encre Noire, Dior Homme Intense for romantic evenings. But I can never see myself liking anything more, or feeling anything suits who I am better than Aventus. And I must say, it is a beautiful thing. This is the best fragrance I have EVER smelled. Breathtakingly beautiful and seductively powerful.

All of the negative comments on Aventus are complete bullshit. There is no problem with the longevity. This stuff has always been good for 8+ hours. There is also no problem with its stability. Creed continues to smell good for more than a decade like every other quality fragrance. There are no “batch variations.” I have three bottles, and they all started out highly fruity and got woodier as they aged. Anything popular from the Creed Boutique is fruitier because it is younger and fewer top notes have evaporated through the nozzle (this happens, it isn’t air-tight). If you put down Aventus because “everyone has it,” you need to do a reality check. I challenge to you quiz 100 random 25-45-year-old men about what they wear, and I wager that not one of them will say Aventus.

very much patchouli, leather and actual disgusting lipstick-iris, not the soft one from DHI. i was hoping for a more rosey fragrance, but was left disappointed

>i’ve tried le cri and i like it. not sure if i like it enough to buy a bottle, but i like it.

>Starts to become harder to find

>le reddit rec's JPG and the one on the far right picrel,
>Like them, not bad. Don't use the right one often, maybe on a christmas or similar situation where the cinnamon/pine(?) feels more appropriate
>/fa/ rec's the two on either side closest to PLRS
>Encre Noir is very dark, and geezery, and reminds me of gasoline in a way
>Wear it when working on my motorcycle, etc.
>Zadig & Voltaire This is Him is also not bad, not as bold, and desu I don't really notice it very much, doesn't stand out to me or have much particular in the way of connotations
>Still get a fairly good amount of compliments with the Z&V
None of them really scratch that "itch" that PLRS does. But now I do notice the lavender, which I never actually noticed before, I thought it was more of a sandalwood vanilla thing. What would you guys recommend for me?
Below are some first impressions of all the frags I've ever had, this was all nearly 10 years ago so not firm that my opinion would be the same still:
>I've tried Armani, Acqua Di Gio, wasn't bad but kinda gay? Idk this was when I was like 16
>Tried Gucci Pour Homme, with the gold cap, not bad? Didn't stand out much
>Tried a versace cologne, not sure which but it was the most generic and cheap smelling shit I've ever tried.

that's because they spend most of their budget on paying influencers and youtubers to promote their fragrances
some people here dislike them because they're a really typical example of one of those pseudo-luxury / fake-niche brands that have no heritage, don't innovate and basically just make easy to like designer fragrances but at three times the price
they might be the most notorious because they're both really popular and really uncreative, with most of their fragrances being reminiscent of some already-popular cheaper designer scent

Question for the thread -

Cool, dark, dry places are the given type of area to store fragrances, but what about refrigerating them?

It’s true there’s oil in them, but would it be enough to precipitate them out of solution? Obvi the alcohol wouldn’t be an issue. This is all purely theoretical and for the sake of discussion, but it would have the benefit of keeping fragrances even longer than normal.
