how do you define high tier accuracy?
give me an example of a movement that is
>cheap
>robust
>"close to high tier accuracy"
there are robust movements at every price point but if you want it to be both, then it cant be cheap

A BIG FAT QUARTZ CRYSTAL

>> No.17786582

why did the moon watch get so expensive? I get inflation and all that but a 2x price increase on the used market is kinda crazy. I thought I was in no rush to get it because it would always be in production so supply is steady but I didn't expect it would become that expensive. Feels hard to justify for a chrono movement with no column wheel.

because people are willing the pay for it. simple as. it is still the same outdated watch that was always way overpriced because they marketed it well, but now it reached new heights. if there was a nanometer of improvement id say sure, charge it more, but this is getting ridiculous.
in five years time rolex will be where ap is now, tissot, longines, oris.. will be >5k.... seiko is already charging 6000$ for a prospex with unaligned bezel, chapter ring and unevenly applied lume on the indices, cant even imagine where they will be. watch world now is like american housing market in 2007. i just hope it crashes soon so i can buy something for decent price

Because Omega raised prices by 50% and going up. If it's 7k new it won't be 3k used like before it's 5k now. Also Jeff Bezos apparently wears Speedy a lot so that boosted it to normies.

And then there's the fact that there is literally no competition at the price point. Name a 5k watch with the brand prestige of Omega, the history of the Moonwatch, the in house caliber as good as the 1861 or better, a manual wind which is pure class and all that at 13ish mm thickness.

The only watch I can think of that comes close is a 36mm Heuer re edition but it uses the same movement and being small it's not as present. The Autavia has a column wheel but it's a noisy fat motherfucker at 16mm. Breitling has the Navitimer but it's not as prestigious as Omega.

Who competes? Daytona is 20k. I've heard some watch dealers say that Omega is the next Rolex and the market is still asleep on it, that Speedys will go to Daytona prices. With the Swatch hype I believe it.

I was watching a video that talked about more affordable royal oak and nautilus alternatives. I liked the watch that was shown in the video but i forgot what it was. It kinda looked like royal oak but wasnt a distaseful 1:1 replica, "homage" or whatever. On the dial there was a globe in the same style as the one on pic rel, but slightly different.

I cant exactly remember anything else that might help the search, but i think that the price was between 2-3k, or maybe 5k. Im pretty sure it was one of those two, but im not certain.

Does anyone know which watch it could be?

chronographs clutter dials and almost all are fucking shit movements anyway unless you manage to get a proper column wheel, not that there's a legit use regardless.

It's only not legit if it physically cannot be done, but it can, you can use a speedtimer to time a steak. Whether you're using it in your kitchen or on the moon, you're just timing shit with it and therefore a chronograph is a perfectly legit timing instrument in either scenario.

The "legit" use of a chrono watch in race care is also pretty dubious since you use a chrono in rally racing where average speed is a target to achieve and you can't calculate that while you're also driving, your co-driver has a stopwatch for tracking average speed and time taken to complete a stage. If you're the driver, you need both hands on the wheel and complete concentration on where you're going, so a wrist mounted chronograph is of dubious value when you have a co-driver responsible for diving the driver information.

Well the Seikomatic was the name for the first automatic watches from Seiko, it was supposed to be a 'premium' line. They changed the logo right around that time too. Those were interesting and busy times for Seiko, they just acquired Taro Tanaka a few years earlier, the Tokyo olympics happened, Grand Seiko was born, so Seiko was all over the place with the names at that time. The watches with that day date arrangement are generally known just as Weekdaters.

I don't get why more of the homage and clone companies don't "legitimize" their blatant watch copying practices more by offering them in colors that the real watch doesn't have. If you're trying to pass it off like it's real it's obviously not going to work, but most of them put their own logos on the dial so it wouldn't pass regardless. Getting a pagani or san martin that looks exactly what it's aping is pure cope, but if they for example made a daydate with a red dial or a milgauss with purple dial and sapphire they would arguably be adding value to the market and competing more with Rolex for the intrigue of their customers by making stuff Rolex doesn't actually make. Like Steinhart makes explorers in a shitload of colors, you can't buy a lavender or yellow explorer so Steinhart is serving an audience that wants that.

nothing, it's completely useless in this day and age especially on a wristwatch
like the tourbillon, it only makes sense on a pocketwatch really
they were for a time when instant light wasn't a lightswitch away, when you needed to fumble around the in the dark for a match to strike to light the oil lamp if you had one in order to see the time on your watch, provided you were wealthy enough to own a pocketwatch
you might have a chiming clock somewhere if you had money though
if you didn't you'd have to wait for the chimes of a church or clocktower if you lived in a large city or town
minute repeaters told the time without the need to see the watch
useless for something on the wrist
an hourly strike complication is more "useful" on a wristwatch however, at least compared with a MR.

Ah now I see why the PRX causes the bourgeoisie to seethe
>Noooo! You CAN tell it's cheap! My $15,000 watch IS noticeably better quality! You just don't know what luxury is!!!! Post your expensive watch RIGHT NOW!
a very tragic showing by the resident borgies

It's not that difficult to try on an expensive watch at an AD and besides if a watch is stainless steel and it has solid links and everything then the difference is hardly going to be Honda Vs Ferrari lmao

sure, but the poorfag hasn't even made a comparison to anything. just a generic "wears like a 15K watch" hence the doubt that said poorfag has even had the experience.

Lmao okay, just ignore the thread having a meltdown because anon compared a PRX to watches that cost $15,000, that kind of defensiveness screams the bourgies have something to prove.

I would have agreed if they didn't just announce they're doing PRXs with digital displays. Now they're just milking their reddit audience for all they can and it's fucking embarrassing.

That's the name of the game in the world of watches, there's few watch brands that aren't milking their respective fan bases with minor variations of their lineups. Like Rolex can drop a submariner with a green bezel insert and their fan base will freak out about it.

I was actually looking for a watch like that too bad they fucked up the digital display and stretched it.

>PRX is a Reddit watch
Why? Reddit also circlejerks about the same watches /wt/ circlejerks over. I think the anger here seems to be that outside of /wt/ the PRX is considered to be worthy of the hype and yet it's not an expensive watch, fags here don't like the PRX because it's not expensive and not something to flex with, a good watch cannot be a watch that can be owned by anyone as far as /wt/ is concerned.

>> No.17787984

>>17787978
That's obvious bias then, Rolex changing the colour of a bezel insert, jacking up the price and their fans creaming themselves over it is okay, but a digital version of the PRX being offered for the same money is cringe and milking Reddit lmao

The only thing I've ever learned from /wt/ is that the American middle class are really fucking overpaid kek

Working really hard for the (You)s. I can almost feel the undercurrent of neglect and loneliness.

Though it wouldn't be wrong to say that redit does soiface over that watch just as much. It's the new AFFORDABLE LUXURY.
