A lot of these old Credor watches are supposedly "18k gold." Can someone tell me whether Credor used gold-plating (ugh) or solid gold for the bezels in watches like this?
I want to get one but I don't trust the sellers that they actually know what they have. Pls help.

Picrel are some of the watches that I was thinking about
The Breguet is great and has most of what I’m looking for, but 40k (30k maybe if I find it 2nd hand) is a lot.
The Blancpain also has a calendar and can be found at reasonable price, but has a few things that I’m not crazy about.
The JLC has a calendar and the double dial thing, plus it’s a reverso which I like, but it seems too damn big and thick.
The VC is a world time that I found and kinda like, but it has unusual elements and it’s also a little expensive (30k).
Thoughts on these?

If you’re not used to wearing watches and want to bang one up as you’re getting used to things, buy a resin g-shock and wear it everyday for 3 months or so. Then buy an automatic. Very different aesthetics underage. The movie poster is emulating 80's neon aesthetic and the song is 20010s ambient dream-pop which is more closely related to the hipster aesthetic of that time. For the poster this G-Shock has literally the same colors used in the neon aesthetic. For the song every hipster was wearing F91Ws and calculator watches. It was also the beginning of vintage watches becoming mainstream, but it had to be broken to be authentic.

It's not about telling time. That's only a tiny part of it. It's largely about the romanticism for the craftsmanship and engineering required to create such complex yet durable and reliable mechanical systems at such a small scale, completely mechanically.

Realize that some of the most expensive watches, perpetual calendars, can tell you the day and time AND account for different days in a month, AND account for leap years, completely mechanically with no computers or electronics.

Hand made. Hand engraved. And extremely low production value.

Your cheap Casios will tell the time great for 15 bucks which is cheaper than a phone.

From hundreds of thousands or even millions down to the 15 dollar range, the pricing just scales up or down based on an adherence to those ideas and purposes. Remember, watches are essentially functional jewelry.

Communism isn't a moral ideology. Charity is not compatible with it. There's no contradiction between being a Marxist Leninist and owning a rolex. There is however a contradiction being communist and donating to charity. They are utterly incompatible with one another. Marxism posits one should quite literally take what is owed to them, might makes right. Whereas donating to charity is a moralizing action that makes no sense from a materialist perspective where maximizing self interest is the goal. That's why Castro owned multiple rolexes. It isn't hypocritical. Marx, Lenin, Stalin and Mao never donated to charity once in their entire life and that'd a good thing.

Tell him to stop paying the debt. It isn't secured by anything and most mortgage lenders don't give a fuck about student debt unless it is in default. Just go back to school every 5 years for one semester online and wow it's deferred. They can't sue your estate or anything. You didn't ask to be born in a clown world and they shouldn't have loaned you the money, it's on them not you or your dad. Just invest your money for now and you'll get about $10,000 cash for going back to school for a post grad semester for living expenses. If you want the Santos just wait until you have 5x more or so for the 18k solid gold one. The Gen vs reps are too similar for the Santos now, can't tell them apart. Buying the stainless steel real one is a more rational choice than paying back your student loans still. Anyone who does this is a total cuck. Just double down on your student debt. Get some more skilled degrees like an MD or a PharmD, JD doesn't matter. If you work from home you can swing it easily. Even if it bothers you there's ways out of it still. I know a guy who went to medical school, racked up over 300k in student loans and had them disability discharged cause of a hip replacement. Paying off your student loans is the DUMBEST thing you can do. It's a simple equation. They don't deserve the money. You do.

Blogpost:

I've been collecting watches for a couple years now. Started with Casios, Seikos, microshitters, all that dogshit. Then I moved onwards and upwards to entry-level Swiss, medium-tier Swiss, high-end Swiss, the Trinity, etc.
I must have bought and sold at least fifty pieces.

I had never owned a Rolex, though. I'm not sure why. At first, I simply couldn't afford it, but then when I could, I didn't like the hype, it felt like the predictable choice and all that, the watch for people who don't """"appreciate"""" watches. My wife, for example, wears a Lady Datejust and doesn't think twice about it.
But eventually I broke down and bought one for a combination of reasons: I figured that it rounds out a collection, if I didn't like it I couldn't flip it and double my money, and that I shouldn't knock the brand until I tried it in good faith.

It sounds silly, but buying this watch really changed my perspective. I realized collecting watches is ultimately silly. I've nearly sold off my entire collection except for a few family heirlooms (that I don't wear anyway.) This was the only watch I've worn for the past five months.
I don't think of this watch in terms of "My Rolex", it's just my watch. I haven't felt this way since I was in college and also only owned one watch, which I wore every day without ever wanting anything else.

Similarly, I realized I don't actually care about watches anymore either. I'm sure new hype pieces will come and go but I don't want them.

Anyway, I hope buying tons of watches makes you as content as buying the right watch made me. I'm not leaving 4chan (we're here forever, of course) but I don't think I'll stick around this general.

Indeed, i realized that when i bought one that i really liked and started wearing it all the time so my other watches barely get any wrist time now. I would sell them but they're shitters and a) they're hard to sell and b) i wouldn't get much money for them anyway. I'll keep looking for a buyer and/or just gift them to somebody.

Quartz is a crystal, it's a rock. Picrel, that is quartz. A crystal, a rock. If you put electricity into it it starts vibrating at a fixed rate. In spring drive the electricity is generated by the spinning rotor inside a coil, just like in a dynamo. The rotor is driven by the mainspring, a spring coiled inside a barrel that turns the gears. The mainspring is the source of energy, kinetic energy, which is then transformed into electric energy, by the rotor and the coil.

This is a quartz MOVEMENT. The quartz crystal is tiny, hidden inside a small tube. The crystal is used as a device to MEASURE TIME: In a quartz movement the CRYSTAL and the stepper motor (that moves the hands) are powered by a battery.
In a SPRING drive movement the hands are powered by a SPRING, just like in a MECHANICAL MOVEMENT. The electricity for the QUARTZ CRYSTAL is produced by the spinning rotor which is driven by that same SPRING, directly. THERE IS NO BATTERY.

>The mainspring is the source of energy, kinetic energy, which is then transformed into electric energy
How is this not the definition of a battery again?

It's part of a battery system, it's an electrical generator but it doesn't store energy.

all watches need a power reserve to provide continuous power to the movement. if a watch did not have a power reserve, the watch would stop immediately once you stopped moving your wrist. with a few rare exceptions, the main spring (mechanical) or battery (quartz) is the power reserve

I would say the PRX if you don't mind it being a bit of a meme and possibly seeming dated in 20 years
the Gentleman is fine, but it's just such a generic vanilla design with no spice. nothing about it stands out and you could replace it with a thousand other sports watches.

Not even sure how much a guy in his position would've made but I imagine the watch was probably stolen, taken in place of a debt or received as a gift
