I have a 90's 34mm tudor at the watchmaker right now and I will ask him to replace the crystal for one without a loupe if he has something that fits. Deepsea is unironically the Rolex with the most soul because it's the most honest reflection of what people actually want from a Rolex, it's a big, heavy, blingy watch with utterly useless "improvements" over a Submariner that exist solely because
>A. they could do it
>B. it justifies what you actually want, which is a watch that demands attention to your wrist and thereby also letting everyone know you have a Rolex
People LOVE to delude themselves that Rolexes are sensible, utilitarian tool watches when if that's really what you wanted, you could spend far less and buy a Seiko without needing to let the store clerk in the mall fuck your wife to get on a waiting list. You spend thousands of dollars and raise your AD's bastard child JUST to join the club and nothing does a better job of fucking screaming at any pass-byers that you're in the club than the Deepsea.

It's unironically the one I'd buy if I could, it's almost a self-parody by Rolex and in that way it manages to be bizarrely unpretentious, it's unashamedly gauche yet cheeky for giving you what deep down you know you really want.

Yes,paid for a Sellita movement, although I didn't check it by opening the caseback, long ago some people here said I could expect a Sellita clone and not a real Sellita movement. If some day I need to repair it then I will open and check it, I could slap areal sellita if needed because I really like the watch and so far I think I haven't seen a similar watch with the dimensions I like:
Diver
36-37mm
46mm lug to lug or less
Drilled lugs
20mm strap size
Workhorse movement but reliable or inhouse

The closes watches I have seen are the black bay54 and longines legend diver 36 (this one has 19mm bracelet size). Who knows if I end buying the 54 or even the slightly bigger 58, I'm expecting a son and I was wondering about buying a nice watch if its aboy and giving it to him once he is and adult and ready to start his family.
Meanwhile I bought this chinkwatch,it is and homage, yes, but as I said, the dimensions are just good and improved because the Seiko originals are underwhelming in that aspect, around 5000€ for the most original 62reissue and still 2mm bigger, other reissues are cheaper but bloated in size with design changes, this homage is respecting the original 62mas size.

>> No.17783052

shouldn't worry so much about lug width, if the watch comes with a bracelet when you buy it. Buying several odd width natos isn't really a problem, and what else realistically would you put your diver on if not bracelet or nato? do you have a pile of 20mm rubber straps?

Well in order for a watch to be considered 'swiss made' by law 60% of the VALUE of the watch must come from Switzerland. In practice that means that the whole watch can be made in China and assembled in Switzerland, and because the value of the work is high there it would constitute more than 60% of the value of the watch, thus making it 'swiss made'.

In one case you're being ripped off by the mountainjew for mass made jewelry but you're getting what you paid for.
In the other case you're overpaying for something that cost them peanuts to make and they're lying about its providence so you're not getting what you paid for, a "swiss" timepiece.

>> No.17783225

>>17783217
That's the old iteration of the law I think. The update seems "better" but is the same bullshit legalese riddled with loopholes that was most likely drafted by Swatch Group lawyers in the first place for the legislature to rubber stamp.
For example the "swiss value" thing can be exempt in cases where the value is made in a country "friendly to switzerland". This includes places like Germany, France and Hong fucking Kong, which is merely a gateway to China because nothing's actually produced in HK anymore.
Never believe their lies.
Simply keep in mind whenever you look at some lower tier "Swiss" stuff, especially Swatch group stuff, that a non-zero amount of it was made in the land of cheap corner cutting and man-eating lathes and that the savings were not passed onto you.
Then ask whether or not you still want to pay the price for this "swiss" watch at what they're asking. If you do, good for you. The End.

Nah it's specifically 60% of the manufacturing costs although apparently not including the cost of assembly, so it's likely not as bad as anons are suggesting that final assembly and inspection are making up the entirety of that 60%

Tbqh it's kind of silly, if this is a thing that watch manufacturers want to matter, that their watches are "Swiss made", then just make them in Switzerland entirely, or don't and just call them Swiss designed or something. Like the Citroën 2CV was made numerous different nations but whether a 2CV was made in France or in Chile, you'd still say it's a French car, it's only really the Swiss that have autistically backed themselves into a corner on this and then refused to actually legislate it properly.

"Swiss Made" is the major selling point of their industry as it implies a long lineage of horological excellence, never mind the actual provenance of that label and what it actually meant for them nor all the shitters they shat out before the seiko quartz nuke BTFO'd them so hard they had to go full-jewelry in order to even exist.
They will never clarify nor amend this.
When you think of watches, you think of "Swiss Time", it's like the French and their wines and champagnes; there might be some new world stuff that shits all over it but the consumer will always assume that the french one is better because that's what they've always been told even when presented with both products in a blind-label taste test and they prefer the new world stuff initially before being shown the labels.

I suppose that's true, if I were to be pedantic I'd say it is more important that "French" wines are made in France since the grapes and resulting wine are heavily influenced by the climate they're grown in and that's hard to find an exact match for Bordeaux outside of Bordeaux, but a 2CV is "French" because it was designed and engineered by the French, who actually stamps the body panels and welds them together is kind of irrelevant provided it's being done to a French standard which was not difficult to achieve.

I think "made" only implies it has been manufactured in Switzerland, the raw materials aren't manufactured, they're sourced.

I'm still of the opinion these can be considered "Swiss Watches" even if it's only the R&D, design and engineering, that occurs in Switzerland itself because that's how it works for most manufacturered goods. All meming aside those Chinese brands like San Martin and Cronos are suspiciously good at making watch cases and shit and it's unlikely they (or rather the factory they get their cases made) got the tooling, investment and expertise from selling watches to poorfags on AliExpress.
