Get the Seagull its a good watch. If you don't like the design there are some more modern variants with the same movement on aliexpress. I own the original 1963 and its one of my favorite watches, but there are times where I think it looks too old man-ish (I got the original 38mm size).

I understand maybe spending $3.35M on a Patek minute repeater perpetual retrograde, I even understand spending $3M for a Jackie Chan double tourbillon from RM. But I do not get why someone would spend $2.8M on a simple 3 hand with date Nautilus, I get its rare but its just a different color dial. Wouldn't it make sense to just buy a regular 5711 for about $80K then spend the rest on something substantial like a VC or rare AP which are still quite a bit "cheaper" than 2.8M (roughly $1M).

Didn't see the post you were referring to, but it's a little misleading to say the issues with the 32 series movements are because they are single-barrelled. The profile of the pallet fork jewels is such that it causes excess wear on the escape wheel teeth, which usually results in the watch running noticeably slower by around the one year old mark. If Rolex had used a double barrel approach rather than their new chronergy escapement, sure maybe the issue would have been avoided.

As far as Tudor movements go, I've never seen anyone complain about similar issues and a cursory google search doesn't bring anything up. They also don't use the same chronergy system described above, so it shouldn't be an issue, though I don't know what they've done to achieve a higher power reserve.

Maybe a Timex, I think theres a few really obscure brands nobody has ever heard of that use sapphire crystals too.

Remember though, a mineral crystal is fine if you want a dressier look. It'll be under a fine cotton or silk shirt, and a wool suit. Its not likely to get scratched.
Even if it does, you can buy a sapphire crystal for $40, take it to a jeweler/watchmaker and have him upgrade if it does get scratched. Thats what convinced me to get a seiko 5

Really like this watch bros. Thinking about copping it. Would be my first chrono. Love me some long-jeans.

Also, what the fuck is up with FP Journe putting "invinit et fecit" on the front of all their watches? It literally just means "invent and execute", which seems like such an uninspired thing to put on the front of such expensive watches. Like "get up and go", or something.

Thanks for the advice.
Question: Is it normal for the seconds hand to be a bit off the mark? It doesn't line up perfectly. It's not a grievous issue, but I'd be lying if I said it doesn't trigger my ocd.

>> No.17775987

>>17775980
You will rarely find quartz movements that hit all the markers, usually it'll be a little off at the top and bottom. Mine isn't perfect either, but it's good enough.

>> No.17775993

>>17775980
>>17775987
It's really only high-end quartz watches that hit on the markers. Grand Seiko, The Citizen, Breitling, Omega back when they still made quartz.

A lower-end quartz might still hit the markers, but that's mostly down to luck.

>> No.17775998

>usually it'll be a little off at the top and bottom
Mine is bottom. It sort of corrects itself once it reaches the 12 mark.
>>17775993
I read it's an assembly line thing. Like, the mass-produced ones are always calibrated to hit the mark while the handmade ones don't. Is that true, or just some marketing bullshit/excuse?

>> No.17776004

>>17775998
It's how the seconds hand is mounted onto the cannon pinion. Assembly line-made shitters just slap it on. Higher-end, hand-made ones receive a little more care.
Some of the better quartz movements also have adjusters that allow the watchmaker to correct for any misalignment.

Remember, also, that the angle at which you're looking at the watch will make a difference in how the hands appear to line up with the markers.

What I always say: If you don't have money, buy a Casio, there are cheap and great casios. If you want something analog and cheap buy a Seiko or Citicen quartz, but never buy a cheap mechanical watch like a Seiko 5 or all that micro brand crap, or worse, San Martin or Pagani.
Mechanical watches have nothing to do with affordability, in fact, it's just the opposite. A mechanical watch is about beauty, rarity and craftsmanship, affordability is out of the equation.
