>Tudor Pelagos 39

>Rolex Explorer 36
>Rolex Submariner
>Rolex GMT Master II
>Rolex Daytona
>JLC Reverso medium size (Monoface and Duoface)
>some very rare vintage JLC
>some very expensive and exclusive Cartier CPCP (Cintrée, Tonneau, Tank Normale, Tank à Vis, etc)
>Cartier Santos (the older versions)
>Vacheron Constantin 222
>Vacheron Constantin American 1921
>Vacheron Constantin Mercator
>Vacheron Constantin Cornes de Vaches
>Patek World Time
>Patek 3940
>some Patek Calatrava in small sizes

>ALS 1815
>Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF (all of them except the one with the date window)

-no more than one watch per brand
-no more than a handful of watches in total
-one dress and one sports watch is probably enough
-just one watch in total is ideal
-metal is uncomfortable, leather is high maintenance
-if you have collector's disease like many of the rest of us, always aim/save up for the most expensive/exclusive brand you can. that will kill off your need to acquire from lesser brands.
-reps are a cheap way to figure out what you want to own in the long run, but they will most likely spoil the real thing for you. if you decide to go down the rep road, take it nice and slow. very easy to end up with a bunch of chinese junk. but also don't obsess over it and let it become a "hobby."

having a drawer full of slightly different wristwatches, or any other luxury good for that matter, feels feminine and just disgusting in general.

these are some lessons learned from almost one year spent on this bs hobby. same applies for pens, lighters, knives, etc. good luck out there.

yes, i had to "collect" all those as well.

clasps help with longevity, that is true. but they are not available on all brands, so you need to be ok with using third party products in that case. also, they add bulk to the watch and can look out of place with a thin dress watch.

maintenance may be the wrong word. you shouldn not get it wet, which is easy enough. but sweating is also bad for it.

Have a vintage watch (not pictured), a Vacheron Constantin from 1964, that I dropped and is no longer working.

I asked one shop in Manhattan for an estimate for a repair, and they quoted me $2800!

That’s more than 3/4 of the value of the watch.

Going to try another place in New York and see what they say, but how much should a repair/service for a non-working time-only watch cost?

Yes, just take it apart and customize it. I made this 1 of 1 custom piece. You can use polarizing filters for different segments of the face to invert or uninvert blacks, you can put in color filters meant for photography to make colored numbers or segments, you can oil fill the watch for clarity, sharpness and legibility (and a unique look), and you can even add holographic backings behind the display if you choose. A watchmaker who manufactures his own movements, these must be highly accuracy. For example: Rolex, Patek, Vacheron.

For microbrands i'd buy, i'd say:
-Vulcain: because the guy who owns it is at his third brand and has proper swiss training)
-Smiths: a microbrand revival too, the guy who owns this one is supposedly a douche, idk, but they chose good movements (Sellita SW200), it's always out of stock so they might be doing something right.
-Yema, i consider it a microbrand revival too, they have some QC problems but i think they are getting better

I can't think of one microbrand made from scratch that i would buy, the branding makes me cringe usually, like Brew.

When citizen makes automatic watches they generally use miyota movements, but citizen owns miyota, so could you call that "in-house?" It's quite simple anon, when you're pushing a fork into your food that involves some force and that's fine when you have a steady surface to push against, when you don't have a steady surface to push against then there's a chance that pushing force can be directed in a way that causes you to drop or flip the container which in a zero gravity environment is bad..

With chopsticks you're not pushing towards the food, it doesn't require a stable surface to push against, slipping with chopsticks is inherently safer because you're not pushing against the container because you're just plucking the food out rather than trying to dig, skewer or scoop it out with a fork.

That actually was not the question. The question was is there a conscious reasoning behind using chopsticks rather than sporks or whatever, not that one was "okay" and the other isn't "okay." Maybe forks aren't okay for some reason, I'm not sure, but I'm fairly certain it's not because they are eating food so tough and rubbery that they would have to meaningfully strain to skewer it so hard that they could puncture the bag or push the bag out of their hand. Half the time I use a fork on earth I'm scooping something rather than jabbing it, it doesn't take much to jab anything, and I can almost guarantee astronauts are not eating noodles.
