tried TdH Eau Givre for the first time today
it's honestly more similar to the original TdH in the drydown than I thought it would be. almost seems a bit redundant for me.
oddly enough, I get just a bit of Bois Imperial from it too. maybe it's the timur pepper and similar woods + patchouli isolates

I've only tried it once or twice. but from what I remember, it's very similar to the EDT, but goes more quickly into the drydown, which has more prominent vetiver. maybe less sharp and peppery. basically what you'd expect from a slightly heavier version of TdH
I think if you like TdH, you'll be happy with either of them. but the EDT is almost always cheaper and it performs well enough for me (average longevity, above-average projection)

the Intense Vetiver is the one that's very different, it smells much more like Grey Vetiver or something

yea I found Erawan to have dewy greens, hay, and a soft floral quality at the opening from the lilac.
then it becomes more full and almost musky imo as the woods and vanilla are revealed (maybe why people say they get tobacco). I think it dries down to a powdery vanilla frag with a tiny bit of oakmoss. almost chocolatey
overall its a really soft, warm green frag that I enjoy, but it doesnt perform great on me and I dont know when Id wear it
have you (or has anyone here) tried Dusita's Issara? Imma sample that next. maybe PG's Harmatan Noir 11?

They’re HPLC vials to be loaded onto a GC / MS lol. Analytical chemistry containers, if that doesn’t mean anything to you.

Half decent way to store something for a week or a month or so, depending on the environment. They’re only like… 2, maybe 2.5 ml total volume though, so most of those vials have minuscule amounts of liquid in them. Prob 50-100 ul or less. We’re talking like… drops.

None of those vials are pierced, but this looks suspiciously like someone is trying to do a genuine chemical analysis of those frags.

I’d fucking love to do this.

I was at an antique market last week, this one seller had tons of great stuff. Safari, Beverley Hills, Opium, lots of 70s and 80s classics, new in their boxes. I got this splash bottle of My Sin, from the 60s I think.

I like it, kinda similar to Aromatics Elixir when it dries down. They both have a dirty patchouli base, but I really like all the floral notes in My Sin. The base notes are also not overpowering; too many times I end up using too much AE and it just reeks after a while, but My Sin has excellent silage while also not being too strong.

I've really wanted to try GITS. the description of it being like synthetic biochemically makes me think it would be a really good fit for a trans woman like me, as exemplified by this passage below

>The trans feminine body is a circuit. It is both testosterone blockers and estrogen inputs, Acéphallus and Body without Sex Organs. On the one hand a rejection of phallogocentricism, on the other hand the affirmative desire of the body made virtual. The immanence of desire in the trans feminine body expresses itself as the sexual desire of the trans woman and the desire to be a woman, the desire for gender itself. It manifests in a coupling of technology and capital, desire being plugged into a different sort of productive matrix. One that can produce the future where humanist reproduction has failed to reproduce it, where the desire for escape from the male sex could not be created through organic reproduction. Her desire plugs into technocapital, into the pharmaceutical-medical industry, and it becomes fused to her flesh. The smoothness of her skin, her breasts, her neo-vagina — all of her body carries an unspoken barcode. It is a product, something that the market provided for her. Something that no doubt could be provided in a market free of the reterritorializing functions of the Food and Drug Administration and drug patents, but nonetheless a desire filled where nature failed.

>THE GHOST IN THE SHELL, this is weird... Once again, ELdO tells us a story, but this time not by drawing from the well of our memories; this fragrance, in fact, has something alien, and unsettling that brings to mind the concept of the uncanny valley, which describes how people's emotional reaction to human-like artificial objects or creatures becomes negative when they get very close to a real appearance but not convincingly enough.
>Conscious choice or not, this is GitS, multiple elements that approach the human but miss the mark: there's a watery milkiness lacking sweetness, a vinyl-like skin, a sensation of clean coldness, or rather, neutrality, a suspended fragrance, without gender or body.
>Dialing down a notch, it immediately reminded me of the scent of a just-unboxed adult toy, but it's the milky note that disturbs me the most, too diluted and detached from its usual gourmand context, it's truly unsettling.

Yes, you can’t loose here. It’s just been discontinued but prices are still the same and it’s still available. That’s most popular Prin too, so prices are going to increase and you’ll be able to flip it if feel like eventually. However you might need to wait a few years before doing so. Just realised by browsing the prev threads that the gue that recommended me Bois Imperial is a skizo spamposter...
So I'll ask the question again, is it a "good" perfume for a first one? If a store near my location has it, is it a good store, they don't seem to sell generic brand fragrances so I don't know if I should go there and buy directly bois imperial or ask them advices even tho I don't know anything about fragrances and scents (I don't even know the type of scent I like).

Go to the store and test everything, they'll gladly let you
Note down everything that you enjoy, and ask what's in them, then ask for things that contain more said things
For example, if you tested something you like, then found out that it contains rosewood and black pepper. Note that down, and ask around for more examples of frags with rosewood or black pepper
If you fond something you really, really like, then ask if you can try it on your skin amd walk around with it first, then see if you still like it enough to get a samplez decant, or the full bottle of it's within your budget

Another easier way is to ask for the most popular and least popular things in the store and try them. The keyword is to try it in person, blind buys are for when you're already experienced enough to know if what you're buying is likely ot contain things you like

But ideally you'd want to keep it under a fifty to hundred bucks unless you really, really like the thing you tried, and you think its worth the money
It's always better to go home and look up reviews for it online first, and look for things that smell similar if it's out of your price range. Getting a tester vial or a decant from a reputable seller are also options.

You wouldn't want to be a poor soul who spent half a month's paycheck on Green Irish Tweed when you can just get Cool Water for a 10th lf the price, for example

Here is the thing:

1. Find a fragrance you like
2. Wear it
3. Do you receive feedback?

Types of feedback:

1. Positive - Keep wearing it
2. No feedback - Keep wearing it if you enjoy it - switch it up to test more
3. Negative feedback - Question if you should keep wearing it. How was the feedback? Was it reasonable? Do you value the persons opinion that gave you the feedback?

That is all there is to fragrances pretty much.

Obviously, general advice like no heavy scents in summer etc apply but thats baby steps 101.

Artificial lighting doesn't do anything to fragrances. It requires UV light, because otherwise light doesn't carry enough energy to cause undesirable reactions within the bottle, especially not in a bottle as dark as the one of Zino (unless the tester has a different color). I was wearing it out yesterday on a night out with friends. Got a few compliments and was asked by a friend of mine what it is. He said that it smells very refined and hypermasculine. He's gay though, so I hope he wasn't just trying to hit up on me lol. Also fun fact: it improves with age. I have a 2+ years old bottle and yesterday wore a fresh batch that I received yesterday. My older bottle is much more animalic, dense, resinous. The new bottle is more fresh-spicy and floral. For me personally, MEM is the best niche release of at least the past 10 years. Yesterday before taking a shower, I was also wearing a sample of Bogue 10 on one hand and Bogue 20 on the other. Great stuff. Gardoni is genius. Apparently the formulas are exactly the same but one is 10% concentration and the other 20% of concentration. But the smells couldn't be more different after diverting from a somewhat similar opening for the first 10 minutes. Might get a bottle o Bogue 20.

Zino has a more airy lavender, while BdJ subdues the lavender with a strong rosemary note and some sweetness (same rosemary note is found in At the Barber's btw, less sweet than BdJ even). Neither of them are necessarily strongly minty to my nose, though. Zino has a stronger patchouli smell to it, which comes out in the drydown together with vanilla, BdJ mixes oakmoss/evernyl into it a little more and keeps the sweet rosemary for the most part.
Also, there are a few people who claim they are so much alike that they are redundant. They are not, and BdJ leaves a different sillage in the air. It becomes obvious when you smell it on someone else.

Whatever Kurkdjian uses in it is what sets Ferrari Bright Neroli apart from 4711/Neroli Intense. I wore Bright Neroli yesterday and upon spraying GFS it immediately became obvious. BN has that tiny drop of whatever that makes it smell ever so slightly "luxurious" (if that makes sense) compared to other neroli-forward fragrances, and GFS has a big dose of that. On paper they have nothing in common other than the ambiguous amber note. Doesn't matter, I swear it's there. It has to be a drop of musk or something like that.

I blind bought it and I didn't like it at all on test on my skin. Put two sprays on my neck today on extreme heat before a shower kind of just to amuse myself and damn, did this shit bloom beautifully. It's dark, deep, inky, smokey and sweet. I'm looking for recs for a cherry scent and a sage-y california desert scent. I tried Cherry Punk, but the cherry only lasted for the first minute, then it smelled like a tabacco scented candle for the rest of it's life, which is fine, but I wanted the cherry. I did also try Flowerbomb for a different reason, and found it quite nice, so if there was anything similar to that which also had cherry, that would likely be perfect for me. As for the desert, I've tried Mojave Ghost, which just smells like nice flowers. Maybe I'm a weirdo, but I grew up in the california desert, and it smells dusty and sagey, not like desert flowers. I haven't been able to find what note to search for that equates to sage either, so any help here would be appreciated really. I'm looking at trying Larrea by American Perfumer, but I'm afraid it's just gonna be the same flower thing. On a different note, I really liked ELdO's Ghost in the Shell, and Cyber Garden by Costume National, is there anything similar to either of those I could give a try?

So, I was in Qatar and got picrel at the mall outside Doha. It's definitely the most unique fragrance I own because Swiss Arabian and Lattafa are very cheap imitations of oud, yet this actually has that Qatar smell that just permeates literally everything in Qatar. Kind of like Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia but with rose and white oud. Reminds me of warm printer paper fresh out of the Lexmark.

This got me thinking and I realize now just like esotericists might believe in a Race Spirit or a national soul every country has its smell. For instance, everything in the United States no matter where you go, whatever the context, smells like car exhaust and fast food. It doesn't matter where you go that is the national soul of America coming out just like everything in Eastern Europe smells like indoor smoking.
