I went to the Creed boutique yesterday. The sales assistant talked about layering their fragrances and was excited to show me the “ice cold piña colada”.

He then proceeded to spray me with Aventus (pineapple), Virgin Island Water (coconut), and Silver Mountain Water (ice), which he said was “the most expensive and best smelling cocktail in the world”.

I felt under pressure and my autism got the better of me so I ended up spending $900 on three bottles.

Immediately upon entering, you notice that a bunch of high-test men are fucking on a bed shaped like a giant Aventus cap covered with sequins. A generic gym playlist is playing on a loop on the room’s sound system, a dumbbell hangs from the ceiling, a large TV displays feminine males getting rawdogged. The other anon is right but I would rather recommend Musk Cologne from Bortnikoff not Musk Khabib if you want to understand the note. Musk Kabib is much more complex and it might be hard to pin down it. Other than that, I would recommend Prin Lomros' frags. For example Mriga. It is pointless to chase ALD bottles but in 3 days there's a new collection coming, so if you'd like to make some easy money I would buy the set and resell it in 1year for $1000 profit. Meleg/Mellifluence should have rather pure deer musk for you. I have recently came across the Sultan Pasha Attars deer musk attar and can recommend it, too.

But how does Synthetic Jungle smell?

I want the most hyperreal Green out there.

at the jovoy shop outside the louvre. this place is frankly a niche perfume lover’s dream. they have entire collections from tauer, MDCI, jacques fath, houbigant, ormonde jayne, ELDO, amouage, escentric molecules, aedes de venustas. parfum d’empire, yadda yadda yadda. this is real niche perfumery, no masstige shit, and i’m pretty sure anyone with even a passing interest in perfumery could smell something new every 5 minutes and still not be done after a week.

Newer to this and just got a batch of decants last week that I've been trying out as kind of a "starter" to figure out what I like based off the flowchart/101 chart and scents I'd like before or groups that sound to my taste. Typically I like Woody Floral/Floral Musk. Did get some recommendations from here before, I started with

>Floris No. 89
>Dior Homme (The 2020 reformulation, could not find samples/decants of the original)
>Terre d'Hermès
>Lalique Encre Noir
>Cartier Declaration d'un Soir

Some of them very good, but having an issue with strength, all EdTs. I'm not sure if it's a me thing living in a hot humid state, weak decants, or just the scents and I'm used to stronger bad colognes I was always given as gifts, or a fucked up nose (There's precedence for that in my life).

Honestly, of these the Floris has been the best, which I expected going in as what sounded best to me, but was most surprised because it had the longest-lasting, strongest scent to me, while still being subtle. The Homme has been good but it seems to almost disappear after a few hours, maybe it's just similar to a normal scent for me, but it's the one I've gotten the most comments on (Nice but not decisive of where I want to go). Occasional iris-y notes, but nothing consistent. Hermès was disappointing in a similar way, just very normal cologne smell, but not bad. Encre Noir is what actually makes me wonder if I got weak decants or something, because it smells fine, but I wouldn't call it "inky" or strong, and being totally new to it aside from once getting some Ombre Leather as a gift doesn't seem to dark or strong, and if that's vetiver then it's pleasant but could be more. The Cartier is nice but smells very florid, which I like but want more musk/wood/complexity from.

Does this match up with anyone's experience, any suggestions off of it? The decants were from DecantX if it matters, who had the best selection of what I wanted in one place and seemed well-reviewed.

>> No.17763455

>>17763450
Encre noir both isnt a particularly strong perfume, and relies heavily on Iso E Super which most people go anosmic too quickly.

The best solution to this is to decant perfumes you like into little spray bottles and reapply throughout the day. And to moisturise before applying.

you might enjoy Dior Homme Parfum, if you can find it. it's floral, leathery, a bit smoky, a bit musky and with some creamy sandalwood. quite complex and very long-lasting. the Intense is also an option, not quite as strong and complex, but easier to find at stores and should give you an idea if you like the DNA

quick spritz of aventus at lafayette champs elysee. i can’t believe it’s such a nothing perfume holy shit. it’s just a citrusy pineapple. how the fuck have people been going apeshit over this thing for 10 years?

also passed by the chanel parfums there, compared bois des iles and cuir de russie’s parfums to their eau de parfum counterparts. bois des iles’ EDP is essentially just a less rich, less saturated version of the real thing, but cuir de russie EDP may as well not even be the same fragrance. it borders on iris soliflore and lacks much of the birch tar smokiness of the pure parfum. i walked out with CdR parfum.

also, visited the parfums de nicolai store near champs elysee. as it turns out, the flagship is the one near the louvre, but they all have a similar selection of perfumes (ie. the whole lineup). tried bois belize intense vie de chateau intense, neroli intense, odalisque, baikal leather, fig tea, patchouli intense, and of course the new iris medici intense. walked out with iris medici (a stupendous iris without the breadiness) and bois belize (tea chypre?) but i also loved odalisque. that one can wait, while apparently iris medici is an in-store exclusive for the time being (ignoring the fact that it’s technically not released yet).

Good to know. I did get a hint of the "pencil shavings" and liked it, but it was brief, so that may be the case. For your second point, these are already decants I purchased, so not much point to that and I want to be careful if I did go anosmic, so I don't end up drowning myself it in while I'm just unable to smell it.

Raises a good question, though, what's the best way to make home decants? It'd be handy since I travel around/am on the go frequently. I used to have a smaller bottle I'd just spray the nozzle into over and over since it wouldn't come off, which was clearly wasteful and with cheaper stuff, kek.

>>17763507
Good to know that may not just be me. Like I said, tad disappointed, because I really wanted some variety, was ready for "inky", and have no frame of reference for vetiver and wanted one. The thread images were very helpful, best basics I'd found anywhere, but may need to be updated if they're behind on reformulations/etc. The Homme thing especially if the flowchart uses it as such a base, not easy to go find now. I had read that and maybe that was just psychosomatic or something else on me (Soap most likely).

Noseblind is possible. I'm doing one on each wrist about 3-4 inches up (Away from getting washed off with handwashing/rubbed off by watch but still present), and usually two to three to collarbone/base of neck now. I always used to go with just three in the same spots but am trying to take suggestions and be more conscious about it now, and am probably used to stronger cheaper stuff than EdT so may overcompensate. My nose is a pain, though, I live in a humid area with shit allergies, and do tend to get used to consistent smells quickly. Didn't figure it'd be that quick enough to not even get notes of drydown off a new fragrance, though, unless they're just drying that quick.

Good to know, I'll look into that. I really liked the sound of the original, but that also sounds like what I'm looking for. Thanks for the info, anon.

i’ve had new york intense for months now, i just chose to wait until visiting paris and smelling stuff in person to expand my nicolai collection. odalisque is probably in my future as well.

also, an interesting footnote for any perfumery nerds: it appears that patricia de nicolai still exclusively uses (and insists on) real oakmoss, not the low atranol stuff that chanel and guerlain have defaulted to. through some perfume sorcery it looks like she’s creating all her new perfume formulas with the oakmoss restriction in mind, and they still shine as if there was never any restriction at all. pretty miraculous stuff if you care enough to know what that entails.
