Omega is moving but Longines isn't going to move with it because then Longines will have to compete with Tag, Breitling and Turdgay. Which is a fight they can't win. Nobody in their right mind will buy a Longines for Tag or Breitling money. It doesn't have the chops or identity. Longines has a history but nobody really thinks of THAT watch when someone says Longines. That's what will always kill it. If they took down their entire line up and came out with good (flawless) designs, and a relaunch to just below Tag prices, they might have a shot, but Swatch won't do it because it will take away marketshare from entry level Omega (which competes with Tag also).

Longines is a lost cause, otherwise I would have bought one or two, I do like the heritage. But the brand is mismanaged beyond repair.

Their problem is really that they have no identity that screams Longines. They've been around but they never had that one icon. A rival at the time, Cartier, has its icon with the Tank. Omega has the Speedie and Bond, Breitling has the Navitimer, Tag has the Carrera and Monaco. Longines has watches that were always flawed in some way. Take this piece. It's a 1:1 remake of the vintage piece and they've retained the horrible giant lugs. Look at those fangs. You could stab someone with this watch. That's the problem. Longines heritage designs were weird as fuck back then, but kind of worked in a funky way, but they look ridiculous today.

I think the problem is not necessarily the industry but the consumer.
Before cell phones, you needed a watch to tell the time.
The old fucks here can tell you that, before cell phones, someone not wearing a watch was considered odd.
Improvements in watch technology were demanded by the consumer. Since it was a necessity, it was also prone to regular changes in fashion. Considers wanted fashion-foward watches, not only retro stuff.

Now, though, watches are no longer necessary and the consumer and manufacturers are trying to figure out what they should be. Plus, now it's a luxury and not a necessity. Consumers want stuff from the golden age of watch development (approx. the 1960s) and, while there are watches out there that are completely wild, they're also so expensive that they would never get into the real mainstream.

The full lume dial is fantastic. I use it as my business travel watch because I always end up waking in the dark in a strange place and the whole glowing dial is neat for grounding my tired mind. My day watch is too uncomfortable to wear to bed but this thing is small and the strap isn't uncomfortable.
I stuck a crystal protector, like those things that they make for phones but cut for watch crystals, on it because it's just regular shitty glass.
It's a find beater as well in sketchier areas because it's not shiny or attention grabbing.

They also pair better with more formal outfits. This is indipendent of how they are powered. So there are plenty of reasons to get an analog quartz.

You'll throw it away after a few years because it looses to much in a day and the cost of servicing would get you a new one. Quartz is what actually makes you save money.
