The old one is cheaper and the new movement is not actually substantially better. The old one worked fine for decades.

On a sub-7" wrist, it will fit, but it would look silly on the bracelet. It would look real good on a black leather rally-style strap, though.

Truth bombs:

The Heuer 02 is objectively a better movement than the Omega 1861. It's a column wheel chronograph. It's also based on a design from the 70s (maybe 80s) originally done by Heuer but never manufactured until now. That's cool as FUCK. If I was gonna get a second Heuer, I would get the Autavia re-edition with the Heuer 02. The watch is a bit thick yes but it has presence and an spectacular movement.

Subjectively, the 1861 is the moonwatch movement so it will always be viewed in a special way. Having said that it's not the 321 so neither Omega nor Heuer movements went to the moon with Neil. However, the 1861 did go to space many times. It may have also been on the moon, or that was the 861, I don't recall. But they are identical except for the rhodium finish and maybe a couple hours power reserve.

The question is really whether you want a 60s throwback watch that was pretty conservative for its time (Omega) or a 60s throwback watch that was pretty avant-garde for its time (Monaco, arguably Carrera because it pioneered readable chronograph wrist watches in motorsports). The Speedie, was also released as a motorsports timer so it competed with the Carrera, it wasn't released as space travel watch. Remember that.

Now you can't get the Heuer Monaco with the Heuer 02 movement sadly, and I personally don't like the generic movement in such an expensive piece. So your choice would be, Autavia, Carrera 60 year limited edition (fucking expensive), or the Carrera re-edition. The latter uses the same Lemania movement as the Speedie so they are quite similar, and well desired. The limited edition is probably just too fucking expensive because it's a collectors item. I wouldn't pay 8k for it. The Autavia is a nice piece, again, amazing column wheel movement, but it does wear big, it's top heavy and thick, so go check it out before buying it. Out of space so I'll continue in the next post.

The Carrera is available in several dial colors to suit your needs, it doesn't wear small because it has a non existent bezel, it's totally wearable if you don't have huge wrists. Even a large wrist can wear this piece nicely because it just looks like a vintage watch, not like a modern piece that is embarrassingly small. It really pulls off the 60s specs to perfection. It's a manual wind, same size, same thickness, same look (except a couple trivial differences), highly esteemed Lemania base, just beautiful in every way. Yes I'm biased because I do own one, but I wouldn't own it if it was shit, believe me. I buy expensive pieces. I own the Speedie too, the 1861 with the big fuck off box. It's great, I love it. You can't go wrong with either of these two pieces. Literally pick what speaks to you. If you have the cash, get both, that's what I did.

Don't buy the new 3861 Speedie, it sucks, people are abandoning it and buying back the 1861 big box. Get that one. Get it with papers.

Yeah, you're just wrong like >>17757725 said. I'm the guy with Speedie and Carrera. The Speedie has problems. If you are OCD it will be an expensive mistake. The Speedie is loved for its flaws not despite them. Omega have very poor fit on them. I had to spend months until I found the piece that had the fit that I expect on such an expensive watch. All the ones I held had rattling end links. I believe they fixed some of that with the 3861 but that watch sucks so I don't care. Omega are really poor with that, some say it's because bracelets are made in China and I believe them. Modern Tags have a better fit than Omega. I've handled and owned a few Tags, but I stuck with the Heuer for obvious reasons. It's a perfect watch. It is perfect in ways that the Speedie isn't. This is hard to explain. It's perfectly readable because the plastic crystal isn't domed excessively, just slightly. It's got the same movement, same accuracy and robustness. But it doesn't shout at anyone, it just calmly sits on your wrist and tells everybody to fuck off because they know what it is. It has a beautifully engraved 60s Heuer logo on the caseback. It has a beautiful dial with applied markers and so much beauty in the dial, the tachymetre printed inside of it. It's just gorgeous. The Speedie has several flaws that just make it unique, but it's further from perfect than most Tags.

Pick your poison.

>fatties larping as Chads

Also most people focus way too much on diameter like it's the absolute criteria to tell if a watch will fit you or not. It's actually insane to me how people don't understand the importance of lug to lug.

Another thing: dial opening.
The Submariner and the Explorer 36mm have literally the same dial opening. This is why the Explorer 40mm looks enormous on the wrist compared to the Submariner.

1. first you have to make sure to keep a nice gift ready (expensive champagne bottle, cigars, mont blanc pen) to give the sales associate as a thank you. You also have to have a nice tip ready in cash (15-20% min).
2. Once you get to the AD, make sure to greet everyone and spend at least 5-10 mins talking. If anyone asks offers you to sell you something (like womens JEWlery or a turdor, you HAVE to say yes or else they might cancel the sale of the watch).
3. When you finally get around to greeting your SA, present the gift and tip right away. make sure they know you're really committed to buying the watch.
4. Pay for the watch and your SA will bring it out. They will peel all stickers/plastic and size it for you.
5. Lastly they'll take the box, papers, stickers, extra links to the back and say they will hold them for you "for safekeeping" and give you a big wink. (in reality they want to make sure you dont resell right away and you'll only get those back after a year or two).

Make sure to keep checking in with your SA every week or two (bringing coffee and/or small gifts) otherwise they will (((accidentally lose))) the box/papers/stickers/links theyre (((holding))) for you. Enjoy the watch anon

Appropriate watch size depends on the style of the watch. Dial size matters too. A diver with a fatbezel can be bigger, a dress watch that is all dial can be smaller, and still look ok. I have a 18cm wrist and i can and do wear from 33 to 42mm watches.

Yeah, and so many modern watches are totally wrong. The classic watches made sense - 34-36mm cases for simple 3 hand watches, up to 38-40mm if you had a number of complications or rotating bezel. The name of the game was keeping the watch as compact and comfortable to wear as possible. Now it really seems like they make watches as big as possible just for the sake of doing it, you routinely see simple 3 hand and date watches with fixed bezels at 40mm and up. There's just no sense to it and it makes the dials look so empty and sterile with so much wasted space.

I know this is baitspam, but I’ve noticed that a smaller ~36mm watch makes my wrist look huge, and 40-42mm watches make my wrist look smaller. Explains why women can rock big watches, because it makes their wrists look dainty. Similar to how when a girl has tiny hands, it makes your dick look gigantic.
I have a 7” wrist and I think 42mm is the absolute biggest I could go, with 39mm being perfect size.

>> No.17758086

>>17758076
>Explain for a brainlet pls

The size of the dial itself.
The Sub case is bigger and beefier due to the need for more water resistance and a wide, rotating bezel. But the dial and movement itself is the same. In fact, some early Subs just repurposed Explorer dials.

The 40mm Sub has a narrower bezel, but that means the dial is physically larger. It makes the watch appear bigger than it actually is. (In the same way that Subs are often described as 'wearing small'.)

The ratio of dial width to bezel width can make a watch appear larger or smaller than it physically is. For example, a 35mm fancy dress watch with a very thin bezel will look larger because it's "all dial".

Because it's a luxury watch and not a mall shitter. Why would you buy a Rolex when you can buy the same shit from a thousand different brands for 1/10th of the price? Breitling has a diver dating back to the 50s. Why not buy a Superocean?

Face it, you buy because it's a statement. You can afford a fucking IWC. You don't care that it cost 10x what a cheap Flieger costs. You pay to see IWC written on your wrist.

Having said that, the Mark series is head and shoulders above shitter Fliegers in terms of build quality, fit, finish, watchmaking. For most of the models they bought ebauche and made it themselves, only later they went with the pre made shit. Also, most Fliegers are boring because they just look the same. How is this not true for IWC? The watch looks a little dull in pictures, see it in real life. It looks a million bucks. Everybody who owns one says this, they didn't think it was that special on pictures but then they had it in hand. The thing looks more expensive than watches double its price.

I hope you're not retarded enough to think that more complicated designs look more expensive. The simplicity of that watch is what it makes it look more expensive than some Rolex.

I don't know anon, I love my Tudor and I honestly like the BB58 more than the Submariner. I just like the more vintage character it brings and I love the blue on it. Also I don't want everyone recognizing the watch and at work I would feel uncomfortable running around with a Rolex, maybe it is different in the US but here in Europe people will sometimes categorize you if you are wearing a crown on your wrist. Also around the house I don't mind scratching the BB58 that much, it is a somewhat cheap watch in comparison whereas any Rolex these days feels like an investment piece. I just can't justify scratching up a 10k+ watch doing garden work even if it is just a regular Sub.

Now a stroll around town, nice dinner or even other everyday tasks sure. But when I am at work I prefer to fly under the radar and also during vacations in Barcelona, London or other high watch crime areas I wouldn't feel too comfortable with a Rolex on my wrist because every idiot recognizes them and knows they are all 5 figures at this point.

Ask an actual watchmaker lol. There are people who fix the watches for a living, they have the tools and expertise, could prolly fix it in an hour if you paid extra for a quick job.

When you see Japan you know it's quality. Nobody makes things like the Japanese do. Why does anybody respect the Swiss for anything is the real question.
Are the swiss known for making the most reliable cars?
A history of the swiss toolmaking?
Perhaps the swiss consumer goods are known for being the best on the market?

Not even Made In Germany means you get the exceptional quality anymore, but made in Japan does.

Hey, I have that exact chronographe suisse model. Haven't found it anywhere else. Where is this photo from?
