I have had 25yo watches that kept decent lume (Omega and JLC), and 15yo Citizens that did also.

I dunno if keeping them in the dark make it last longer, but i have noticed that when you do so the lume need some weeks of use to really "recharge" in a way that it starts lasting a full night again.

Not modern strontium-based lume, e.g. SuperLuminova. That can recharge and discharge effectively forever, bright as the day it was made.

The old tritium lume had a finite (and short) lifespan, as do modern tritium tube watches like Ball. When they were new, though, they glowed on their own, without the need to charge them up under the sun. They just got dimmer and dimmer over time.

The really old radium-based lume still glows really brightly but, well, enjoy wrist cancer, I guess.

The name "Frédérique Constant" is derived from the names of their great grand-parents, and coincidentally sounds like a typical French name. Raymond Weil isn't disingenuous, since It's just the name of the random that assembled some hodgepodge parts together and sold the watches at a market stall. Real name, at least, albeit horologically irrelevant. Still, not "fake".

The most egregious in my mind, more than FC, Maurice LaJanny etc., are the ones that took a completely extinct brand or the name of some historic watchmaker in the attempt at "instant clout". Arnold & Son, Czapek, Moser and to some extent ALS although at least they attempted to reinforce the farce by bothering to get the surviving Lange to rubberstamp their operation.
In those other cases however the names and guys involved were so dead that nobody in living memory even knew who or what they were cept watchmakers. Instead of just choosing a new name and building that up they choose a name such that they could pad their "About Us" page with implied connections to some great horologist or tradition, being careful to never explicitly link the current operation with that old name.

The most perplexing one I listed is Moser since their stuff is some high effort, unique stuff. Why drag out of the historical dustbin some name that disappeared along with the Tsar?

They all make absolutely fantastic watches. Why did they see the need to link themselves to some past glory?

Anyone who holds any interest in fine watchmaking beyond watching TikToks knows about Czapek (at least because of Patek). I don't necessarily disagree with you about reviving historical brands, but in the case of Czapek it was done quite gracefully. All of their communication seem to be quite humble and they recognize the legacy of Czapek wherever they can. Creating a "library" of Czapek watches prior to launching the brand is also a nice nod. I just hope they also tried to contact some family members. In any case, how does it differ from some big-corp buying out an existing, let's say family-owned, watchmaker and doing their thing new with the name?

lol I bought one of those casios just for the bracelet to throw on my Timex Q because its bracelet was such dogshit. The bracelet isn't great but it at least doesn't yoink arm hair every 2 seconds like the Q's does. But there are videos on Q alternative bracelets so since the Casio and it are interchangeable you might be able to apply the video to your watch.

Corrosion? Not typically. Scratch marks or "stains" are normal due to steel rubbing against steel but they don't look like corrosion. What watch is it?

If you can't see it when the bracelet is attached, I'd leave it be until servicing.

the reason the existing brands keep their established name is that they make your monkey brain go ooga booga heritage century long watchmaking legacy, which they desperately need to keep their luxury status, exactly the same reason new brands come up with fake french sounding names or reboot dead brands
it's all disingenuous in the end, you could talk about heritage for an independent watchmaker having his apprentice take over the business after teaching him all he knows, not for these brands that sometimes even stopped making watches for half a century until it started being profitable again

Any Tag that doesn't have the pure "Heuer" branding is automatically not worth anyone's time, even though there are some very good models of that. The problem is that "TAG" ruins them beyond repair.

All the Heuer models are worth buying. There were a couple of them that weren't remakes of old watches, those are a mixed bag, but all the originals are amazing. Autavia, Carrera and Monaco, as chronographs.
