The shirt is slightly off-white while the bustier is very pure white, and I kinda just ignored it because I liked the outfit anyways (the fact they aren’t the same shade bugged me though!!). Honestly a lot of contemporary stuff is pretty fucking tough to read simply due to subject matter, but if you’re lucky, you’ll notice the stylistic choices are actually impressive for some things. Almost anything that gets into a magazine is based solely on the experience of being bipoc, lgbt, an immigrant, hating the English language, being severely traumatized, hating men, hating your family, not wanting kids, hating the kids you have, etc., and even if I understand or relate to any of it in the slightest bit, I have a hard time stomaching it because it’s *everywhere* all the time and many of the writers are self-indulgent opportunistic hacks that are just trauma dumping. I get that people deserve to share their stories but at this point, it’s all the same, and feels like a big pity party circle jerk that’s been going on for years. It’s very stale. As well, if you yourself are a writer wanting to submit to places, sub guidelines of almost all magazines right now encourage this sort of attitude and if you don’t check the boxes, you’re likely not getting in no matter how good you are (ie. some people close to me are genuinely more talented than a lot of these people in big magazines, and they get published a decent amount, but because some are straight white dudes, it’s hard to find places that’ll take their work). So good luck.
