Not Schnitzler, but "Beauty Affair", that niche store. Schnitzler was open. If Schnitzler had Le Labo, I must have missed it. Schnitzler also didn't have Jaipur when I was there, and no Costume National Homme, either. I was able to test a lot of other stuff, though, which has been hard to find at other stores. Then again, some stuff at Schnitzler is a bit hidden in their bottom cabinets (like the 3 bottles from Nicolai they had). Latest visit to the city was to Lush, which is why I didn't bother going for the niche store again.
Lauder for Men is definitely an old-style fougere and similar to Cerruti 1881, but it's just more refined, really smooth and elegant. It will remind you of 1881, but in a high quality way. It's hard to describe otherwise. Lasts longer than 1881, but not as long as e.g. fragrantica might make you belive. Might be the safest blind buy out of the three, without having smelled Cacharel.
Tuscany per Uomo is really similar Azzaro pour Homme, but instead of just anis, you get an overdose of caraway on top. I didn't like it, because the caraway note just made it smell unpleasant, just like the anis note makes APH pleasant. The opening was the worst, the drydown is a bit nicer, as the caraway goes away a bit, but it never fully leaves. If you like caraway and Azzaro pour Homme, knock yourself out.
Cacharel pour Homme is on my search list as well. Gotta find it somewhere.

It’s finished. So is the summer here. Was it worth €9 I paid for it? Yes. Will I be rebuying it next summer? Probably not. It was a nice dumb reach for the hottest days out there where you couldn’t find anything appropriate to wear. I loved the bitter, zesty (and slightly green - as if it was a petitgrain not a neroli scent) opening but after 1-2 min it was resorting to that synthetic neroli scent that you know very well from Neroli Portofino and others but with an ambery, slightly sweet and woody twist to it. It’s fine. You must still be an idiot to buy Tom Ford Neroli Portofino but it’s also nothing so special unless you’re a cheapskate - you will hardly find a better de fragrance than that. Personally I was liking Ferrari Bright Neroli better as it was developing in a more floral-Jasminy way but obviously now that it has been discontinued I would not buy a bottle of it for more than €20.

>“A rose may be a rose,” reports EWG. “But that rose-like fragrance in your perfume may be something else entirely, concocted from any number of the fragrance industry’s 3,100 stock chemical ingredients, the blend of which is almost always kept hidden from the consumer.” The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a coalition of over 100 groups seeking transparency about chemicals in cosmetics, commissioned independent laboratory tests that revealed 38 secret chemicals in 17 leading fragrances. The top offenders?: American Eagle Seventy Seven topped the list with 24, followed by Chanel Coco with 18 and Britney Spears Curious and Giorgio Armani Acqua Di Gio each with 17.

If you don't know what it smells like, don't spend the money unless you plan on sending it back if you don't like it. Go to a store and test it first. Do anything other than straight up blind-buying for 200$.

Bright Neroli really is better than Neroli Intense. Also, BN is quite the performer on me. Now I got both of them and I don't want to wear BN out of fear of emptying it without a suitable replacement. NI is good, but doesn't quite cut it. I need that additional refinement that makes me smell like money.

>>17749357
>38 secret chemicals
Just because the chemists couldn't identify what it was doesn't mean it's a secret. Probably just ran a GC-MS and compared it to a database of known frag molecules. I could do that myself. In any case, I now want to buy the mystery juice simply because it isn't concocted out of the known chemicals. Also, that "Campaign for Safe Cosmetics" sounds worse than the IFRA. Pretty sure it was me, but it was the niche store and not Schnitzler. I haven't smelled Chanel No. 19, to be honest. Yesterday evening I sprayed some Cerruti 1881 and Lauder for Men to check again. The Cerruti got an aftershave vibe to it that is missing from Lauder for Men, which has more of a bright juniper with a strong mossy background going on. Not a realistic or lifelike juniper, but the intention is clear. Smelled directly against each other 1881 is more aftershave-y overall while Lauder for Men is more like an expensive perfume. I'd straight up attribute the aftershave vibe to the lavender in 1881. They both smell great in the air, though, with Lauder for Men smelling better directly off of the skin. They diverge in the drydown, with 1881 turning into that woody pine scent and Lauder becoming rather mossy.

Absolutely based. One of the best fragrances out there. Causes extreme seething in less masculine men, because they just smell cute when they use it instead of sexy, and brings closeted faggots to their knees, as it tackles their already fragile masculinity. Be sure you don't wear it if you don't have the body for it. Other than that, it's still the highest rated designer fragrance on parfumo and the 6 time consecutive winner of the "Best Men's Perfume of All Time" award on fragrantica, which means it has won every time since the creation of the award in 2017.

My decants arrived today.
My first impressions:
Chanel egoist is really bad. Its very oldtimey in the sense that this is how I would expect a very old senile man smells like in a retirement home, a man who is incontinent and doesn’t drink enough water.
Like Jesus fuck why would you pay money to smell like this? I’m never going to take an anons advice if he recommends me some vintage/retro „manly“ spicy/bitter fragrance like „Yatagan“ or some shit. It has a similar oldtimey funk going on that makes Chanel No.5 unwearable. It reminds me of bad breath, I’m the sense that the smell not only annoys me but disgusts me. I am never ever going to try out a retro fragrance or anything by Chanel ever again. This literally left me crying and shaking… this is legitimately the only time that I have smelled a fragrance and been actually disgusted.

To all you anons that think Egoiste smells good, I just wanted to say… fuck you. I’m still going to give it a few wearings tho because I paid (and wasted) money on this decant, also I am machinist and I want to experience what it likes to smell really bad, like will people treat me differently? I think this experience will build character.

Straight to Heaven: more like straight to JOOP, because that the opening reminded me of it but it has more depth and shit. Is really good tho

Santal 33: more like pickles 33 because that’s the only thing i can smell. Is this what New York smells like? Like somebody opens a jar of pickles? This is also pretty good and better than Egoiste.

Ombre Leather: this is my faviourite one so far, smells weird but in a good way, reminds me Kindergarten for some reason, wood and leather and weird cleaning products.. it’s really good and interesting. Im looking forward to wearing this.

Instant Crush: this is pretty good as a poor man’s Baccarat Rouge, it smells louder, cheaper and more annoying than Baccarat Rouge tho. 100x better than Egoiste.

4chan has it all, never visited /fa/ and thought you guys had a cologne general. Blog time. Never wore cologne and people usually got some for me throughout the years as a gift, women always used to buy me shit like Eternity, Aspen or some other cheap shit. It wasn't after my mom bought Paco Robanne's Invictus and my boss's recommendation that I should start smelling like swag that I got into the fragrance world and now learning. Obviously the site that I found first was Fragrantica, love their shit. Anyways I lean heavily towards masculine scents, my first buy was Chanel's Antaeus and I literally can't stop smelling this shit, it smells and feels good as hell.

First of all, Eternity and Aspen are based and Invictus is hopefully the stuff that made you realize that modern sweet shit just ain't worth it. Antaeus great, though. When it comes to straight up recommending 80s powerhouses, you might start with the big houses first. Stuff like Egoiste, Platinum Egoiste or Pour Monsieur from Chanel. Guerlain Habit Rouge, Heritage, Vetiver. Dior Jules, Eau Sauvage, Fahrenheit. There's usually something in there for everyone and they are very different to each other, so it might help you figure out what stuff you really like.

Be aware that I intentionally ignored your desire for an aftershave.
In general you want to find a store that stocks Chanel, Dior and Guerlain and then test their masculine fragrances. It doesn't have to be a fougere, however Platinum Egoiste is an aftershave-like fragrance with high quality. If you really just need another aftershave, look for Pinaud Clubman. It easily lasts 3 hours and has a really nice and powdery smell similar to Brut. However, I don't recommend using aftershaves, at all, and instead treat them like >>17752372 does. Aftershaves often contain no moisturizing compounds, and if they do it's only marginal amounts of panthenol or allantoin, and you would be better off with e.g. a moisturizer with spf.

If some saleswomen talks to me, I usually say "just browsing". Large and busy stores are actually the best, because even if they have 4 salespeople around, they don't have time for you. In any case, testing on skin is needed but only once you know what you want to actually test. Not once has something that didn't smell good off the cap and off a paper strip ever whooed me when smelling it off my skin. It just doesn't happen and I can trust my nose with that. It's a good way to generally throw out 70% of the selection a store offers. You can test things on your skin after that, whatever remains.
>if so, what's stopping anyone from going to a store to perfume themselves every time they need to?
What stopping anyone from just taking things? Probably the fabric our society is made of. And yes, there are individuals who do not care for our conventions. There are individuals who will relentlessly spray themselves at a store when they need to.

seems a good thing then, I very much enjoy he scent so its good i could enjoy it without thinking i smell like a harlot or something.

Also, im kicking myself now, because i have a perfect comparison to what i like wearing most: Pic related!

does anyone here know similar things in this range of fragrance i should purchase to compliment it? much appreciated if so.

pour un homme is one of the greatest masculines of all time, that retard is just pulling your leg because i trashed his favorite chanel.

ahh bit of rivalry between you both, eh? Well, I'm sure its just a sensitive subject, hurt feelings and such due to differing tastes.

Still, everyone has been very helpful i feel to me, on both sides of the 'divide' as it were, so i shan't complain.

it's not rivalry, it's just that unhealthy habit of that guy to straight up shoot down any recommendation he doesn't like and then inject his personal favorites (preferably vintage caron and guerlain). it has become really annoying and he riled up quite a few people with his very repetitive posting. cpuh does smell like mothballs, though, and since you probably won't find it at any store, you will never have to smell it. and if you happen to find a store with caron, just test le 3e homme de caron instead. a thousand times better.

not only do you clearly have no idea who i am, you also clearly don’t have enough brain cells to comprehend a world where pour un homme and 3e homme can coexist, and also apparently not enough to understand something as simple as pour un homme in the first place.

i understand cpuh. the smell of mothballs and baby powder. it really is that simple. and stop pretending to be someone you aren't. that's really cringe.

the fact that all you can do is draw comparisons to completely unrelated synthetic scents is hilarious and proof of your ineptitude in perfumery.

why even say that and then try to call someone out over their "ineptitude in perfumery"? and don't delete your post now, everybody needs to see what you just wrote.

because pour un homme is just a basic fresh vanillic lavender with no relation to either moth balls nor baby powder (ignoring the fact that different brands of both smell different)? i’m getting the itching feeling that you’ve never laid your nose on it and are bullshitting your way through excusing platinum egoiste.

it's amazing that you can't fathom that this stuff smells like mothballs and baby powder to people. i don't have to defend platinum egoiste on the internet, i really don't care about simping for a fragrance as much as you do. it was you who started this and who now can't deal with cpuh smelling like mothballs and baby powder.

Thanks for the tips. Will check these out.
