Friendly reminder that the American market makes up only 19% of the Swiss watch industry vs 30% for the European market.
Remember eurobros: whenever an Amerilard call you a poorfag, just ask to see his watch. Chances are he's wearing a Shinola.

I have to be honest with you, I love my Rolex Explorer 124270, but I miss the date function. On the other hand, the bracelet seems too thin and elegant to me, I would prefer a more tool watch bracelet. Although I will never sell this watch, I love it.

The Explorer costs, what, say 7k? If that's the nicest watch you own, then that's your cope threshold. Any watch you buy because you can't afford a watch above your cope threshold is still cope.

Like, if you bought a Bell & Ross instead of a Panerai, that would be a choice, not a cope, because you can afford both.

If I had to guess, it's probably based on numbers. Rolex probably makes more GMT-Masters per year than the total number of Richard Milles ever made.

>Any details on that Piaget? It's an Altiplano, right?
Yes. 35mm in rose gold. It has the 430P hand-winding movement. 6mm thick.
I love it. I don't wear it as much as I would like, because everyone works from home so I have fewer opportunities to get dressed-up. It's not a traditional Altiplano with the thin stick indices, but I like the 90s numbers.

AFAIK the only luxury watch brand that has forced some politics into its marketing is Omega (pic related).
You'll never see brands like Rolex, Vacheron, Patek, JLC or Cartier do woke shit like actively supporting BLM or trannies. Sometimes they'll hire a nigger or a kike celebrity as an ambassador, or support some (((educational program))) in the third world, but it will never go further. Their customer base is almost 100% heterosexual men, and probably pretty right wing. Too risky for the business.

Those are flex watches with an entry price of $500k. The demographic for these are Saudi prince wives and Singaporean billionaires with awful taste, not marxist trannies from the western world.

Depends on the watch. If you're wearing a Patek or a Lange and you tell her how much it costs, her perception of you will instantly change significantly and probably not for the better. If it's a Rolex, sure it's a lot of money but it can be justified as vanity or frivolity. But wearing a $35k+ watch makes you look completely unhinged to 99.99% of the population.

Of course none of this applies if she actually knows about watchmaking but if that was the case she wouldn't be asking the question, she would know how much it costs.

CARTIER DOESN'T MAKE A SINGLE GOOD DRESS WATCH UNDER 10K

>Tank
For some reasons Cartier doesn't make the large model in steel with a mechanical movement. Mechanical is only available in gold, which starts at 15k.
>Tank Américaine
This one is hilarious. They can't make it "too good" because they don't want it to compete with the Cintrée. So they've put the shittiest automatic movement inside it and have fucked up the proportions. Terrible.
>Tank Française
Same as with the Américaine. The medium version has a quartz movement (5k+€ LMAO) and the large version an AUTOMATIC movement with a disgusting date window (6K+ LOL). Also awful bracelet.
>Santos Dumont
Same story: you can't get the large Dumont in steel with a mechanical movement. You CAN get the steel XL version with a mechanical movement though, but it's 47mm lug to lug which disqualifies it as a dress watch.
>Ballon
I don't even know what this watch is supposed to be. Dressy? Sporty? Smart casual I guess? Anyway it has a proprietary bracelet system, an automatic movement and is 12mm thick. Awful watch.
>Pasha
Same as the Ballon. Automatic, weird shape, proprietary bracelet system, looks weird... Who buy that shit?
>Ronde
36mm only comes in quartz, 40mm has a shitty automatic ETA movement.

Face it: the "real" Cartier starts at 15k with the rose gold Tank Louis mechanical movement (large version). Then you have all the crazy shit from the Collection Privée which are high horology tier, starting at 30k.

It’s so fucking hard to get a watch with a calendar week complication. For my job I constantly need to know the calendar weeks and I’m my budget I had the choice between the Business Timer and the Meister Agenda. It's basically a question you won't ever get an agreement on. Everyone's always buying something thinking they're getting the best value for what's they're paying. Doesn't matter if it's reps, jap enthusiast tier, microbrands or luxury. Whoever buys any of these does so thinking people are literally wasting their money buying any other category.
Truth is watches offer terrible value at all price points. Casio's probably the only exception, but frankly what's the fun in wearing a casio?
