I get why cheap brands do it (actually I don't, just show the fucking real thing whatever the price), but when you keep jerking off about "muh finishing" the least you can do is show actual photographs of your products.

Yeah. The cost...that's up to the individual.

But yeah, the mainspring powers a coil that creates electrical energy that powers the quartz regulator, which in turn feeds the information to the circuit which operates a brake, speeding up and slowing down the gear train as necessary.

They still do good non-meme design it's just that the meme dials are what they became famous for so they have to keep them going if they want to sell. If GS was exclusively a non-meme watch brand they probably wouldn't be able to exist. Forgot to add, the only thing that sucks is the clasp is sharp as fuck. Other than that, the sneedmaster is incredible. Definitely recommend hesalite, it’s not as vulnerable as internet concern fags make it out to be, and the closed caseback looks way cooler. The sapphire milky halo is gross anyways. Check out both in person if you can.

No, there are still plenty of young people on /fa/ but they're usually in the threads about clothes, not accessories.
Old people can't fit into nice clothes anymore so they just give up and dress like shit, hoping that a nice watch can compensate.

If you were in high school when the site started, you'd be nearly 40 years old now. If you're here and you're over 40, though. Just give up.

Not that many. Rolex owners generally don't check the amplitude of their movements. I'd be surprised if 1 in a 100 even knows what that is. They really only notice if the timekeeping is way off, like 30 seconds per day.

That said, when the movements are checked, basically half of all 32xx movements about a year old and every 32xx movement that's over two years old has the "problem".

The problem is real, but also overblown. The amplitude only tails off dramatically about 48 hours after a full wind.

We're instructed to tell buyers who ask about it that it's not a problem, it's an accepted part of the design.

I don't know if you remember the datewheel issue that the Kenissi movement in the Tudor GMT had, but THAT was a problem. Very visible to anyone regardless of how much knowledge they had. That was a fucking disaster.

>Who the fuck needs 70 hours of power?
The marketing department.

Power reserves are climbing because customers are being told by marketing to demand it.

A lot of it actually has to do with Omega. Back in the mid-90s when the GoldenEye era Seamaster Professional came out, it made the Submariner feel really cheap, especially the bracelet. So Rolex put some R&D money into improving their bracelets, clasps, endlinks, etc.

Omega has the coaxial escapement, so Rolex needs to market its own escapement, Chronergy (which is just an extremely minor massaging of the Swiss Lever). Customers don't know the ins and outs, but if they ask the Rolex salesmen if they have anything like Omega's coaxial, they better have an answer.

Omega's 8900 series movements have 60 hours of power reserve (and do so with a double-barrel mainspring) well, Rolex's 32XX need 70 hours. The problem is that getting that power reserve is tricky. They could lower the beat rate, like the PowerMatic movements. They could engineer a whole new movement like Omega did, or...they can simply make the mainspring longer and thinner, then fit it in the existing movement.

When the soimatic was introduced I think there was a handy dandy rule of thumb to determine which one had plastic parts and which didn't. I think the shitty variant of an already shitty caliber had fewer jewels, 23jewels? whereas the better version had 25 or something. I don't remember.
Are you looking for ETA only or are ETA clones ok too? The latter's list is quite extensive.

Two watches come to mind when I think of yellow dials. I remember them not because of the quality or lack thereof of the actual watch, but rather because of the quality of the yellowness of the dials.
One's the vinrage Seiko Pogue(?) that's really popular for some reason so prices are likely fucky. Really nice metallic, golden wattle yellow. The other is the long discontinued Baume&Mercier Copeland diver, that had a really nice yellow dial that looked like honeycomb.
Like all B&M's it was likely shit and not worth the money, but I saw one of these in a jeweler's window 13years ago and still think of it when it comes to yellow.

Look at Oris' mess of a calibre 400(?) I think it is. 5 days reserve. Wowie!
Only problem with something like that is that your hand movements over a normal ass sendentary day aren't going to wind that shit fully.
That was the least of their problems though. That whiole setting the time mess where the hands would jump when pushing the crown in making setting the precise time impossible on some examples, or the age old issue of long PR's where the accuracy goes to shit the less PR there is.
Goes to show that you should never be in that first round of buyers that companies experiment on.
Omega had that with the pre-8000 co-axials, rolex apparently with their 32xx.
What a shitfest.
Luckily for me I think Rolex design's have gone down the shitter and much prefer their older 31xx, non-maxicased watches. Smaller wrists means 5digit cases are better for me too lol

As long as you don't mind over paying for a 100% chinese watch. Doxa was outed by a dive forum years ago as having their watches made by a chinese OEM manufacturer. When the forum tracked the OEM down those tards even had doxa watches in the background on their site as examples of their work. Doxa got that shit pulled fast lol
Treat doxa not as a veteran Swiss enthusiastic dive watch maker and rather as just other chinese microshitter. If you're happy paying such prices for their designs then you're good to go.

He told me that he wanted to buy one and since he has a holiday home in switzerland in the same city as the doxa "factory" he called them to ask if he could order and pick up his watch in person. He got a resounding "no way!". He got suspicious and just got a seadweller instead.
The forum guy's digging found that the "doxa factory" was literally a mailbox. Suddenly their reluctantance for in-person transactions made sense.

And it was based off of initial research on escapement geometry and friction done by an engineer at Seiko, Abe Kenji. His findings on geometry appear never to have made it to Seiko’s serially-produced movements (he did file a patent though) and later two guys from Rolex invented the Chronergy escapement based on his research.
