(Trans)Gendering of fragrances has more to do with marketing than anything else. Ultimately you can wear whatever you like.

You are literally giving dangerous advice that will get innocent people killed. Change this stupid shit, it literally has nothing to do with fragrance wearing. IT IS TERRIBLE ADVICE AND HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ACTUAL FRAGRANCES. You are either baiting people or just a complete fucking asshole. I can't wait for the 2024 election to make transgender ideology completely fucking illegal.

Can there still be some money made flipping fragrances? I know that Areej Le Dore and Slumberhouse were typically good investments, but Russian Adam seemingly lost the plot with the newest lines and also scaled up, and his fragrances are no longer released in mini-batches, bumping up the prices. Josh from Slumberhouse is presumably dead. What are the other highly collective niche brands?

But was it worth it? You seem to be knowledgeable about the topic, so tell me what are other collectible oud/attar producers Westernized enough, so I don't have to translate Arab runes with ChatGPT just to know where to click buy? Dixit&Zak? Feel Oud? How about Sultan Pasha Attars? What is the current hottest brand like ALD used to be 3+ years ago? I have heard about Rasei & Fort releasing some very limited oud blend.

Stay away from Parfus de Marly. These are just overpriced clones. Parfums Vintage is indeed producing the best clones, but these are still clones. How about you get for example the pic related. If it was a 20:80 thing then great, but these days most of the talked clones cost about the same as original frags, and they are not 80% close. For me personally, life is too short to smell 80% good if I can smell 100% good without feeling tacky for wearing a scent equivalent of a fake Gucci belt.

The History of Indonesian Oud bottle is decently priced for what it is, you can still buy bottles from Areej. The others were pretty ridiculously priced. The Kinam Oud bottles were like 800usd or something like that. I doubt you'd be able to make much money on them. Feel Oud is just Russian Adam and Bortnikoff working together, their latest releases apparently had a bit of a mixed reception but I still want to try out Oud Balsam.

17728945

Alright, the hiatus is over and I've got a double feature today.
Whispered Myths is by far the most masculine fragrance in the entire Imaginary Authors lineup. The cedar and oud is cut nicely by the barest hint of honey, and I didn't get the fecal smell I was warned about from some oud scents which is great. Dark, musky, and intense, I had 3 sprays last a full 16 hours. An older woman (60ish?) at the grocery store walked up to me and said I smelled nice, which felt nice but is not my target demographic, but I figured I'd mention that given some other posts in the thread. Overall I am incredibly surprised by how good this fragrance is.
O, Unknown is the most gimmicky fragrance even when compared to "literal ice cream cone" and "burnt match", between the two different tea notes and the audacity of putting "???" in the marketing. This invites questions of "Why not make the whole thing unknown? The mystery air head of perfume? What's the point?" which I haven't found a decent answer to. Smells nice though, smoked tea and sandalwood, very oriental, very rich. Performance was mediocre, 4 hours with 3 sprays, a decent fragrance but nothing more, and having a goofy "mystery ingredient" doesn't make it better.
Coming up on the end now, only 4 scents left. I'm wondering what sample set I'll buy when I'm done with this. Recommendations are appreciated, I'm considering BeauFort or Essential Parfums at the moment.

What the fuck is wrong with you stupid, spineless zoomer faggots and your obsession with compliments?
Let's ignore the fact that you personally are too ugly both in body and spirit to get compliments for anything. We're going to do something wild and difficult, it's called thinking about other people besides ourselves. I know, I know, it is crazy and you've never done it, but bear with me.

1: How many times have you seen your friends received compliments on their fragrance or clothing? Or more realistically how many times have you seen people in public places receive compliments from stranger?
2: How many times have *you* complimented someone on their fragrance? What's that? You expect other people to engage in behavior you don't, and you base purchases on this delusion? Wow, very cool.

Tldr You're a fucking faggot, buy shit you like, shut the fuck up about compliments. If a a woman you don't know and aren't about to fuck compliments you on anything fashion related, she views you as a faggot at worst and harmlessly not sexual at best. This isn't true for women once you actually date them but you have no experience with that so that's a topic for another day.

SOTD: Sultan Pasha Attars Aurum d'Angkhor. £400 for 3ml, but hell it is worth the price. For a long time, I haven't something as complex and smoothly blended as this CPO. Oud base comes from the famous Ensar Oud's Encens d'Angkor oud base, but there is so much more to it than the oud complexities (it's barnyardy in the opening but soon after becomes more leathery with a hint of blue cheese). The bright floral rose+jasmine whirling in the opening is spectacular. There are saffron and spicy-resinous facets to it buzzing in the background, making it very warm and welcoming. The best thing is that it's really masterfully blended and doesn't become one of these indistinguishable vaguely "arab-feeling" concoctions like many cheaper CPOs. Good stuff. Read a lot, sample or smell at a store, get a 3,5 or 10ml decant, and only then buy a bottle after finishing up a decant. For decants, look up parfumo or your local fragrance facebook groups. People often are making them at the same price as their full bottle purchases, so you get the best of both worlds: price per ml as if you bought a full bottle, only a few ml to go through to test if you like the scent or not. Thanks to that, you will also have a quite varied selection of fragrances to choose from at any time. In my case, 95% of scents are not passing past the decant stage, and those that I'm buying after testing thoroughly first are indeed full bottle worthy for me. But that's me. I just hate hoarding and the feeling of looking of nearly full bottles at my shelf that I have really no intention of wearing any more.

>> No.17729798

Newfag here, test smelled some fragrance but only found Cool Water and Encre Noire + extreme + sports in said store for the single $ price range in the groups 101 chart, ended up liking the normal Encre Noire the most and bought that.
I'll use it for everyday application for now, not sure if it'll pan out well or not.
There were lots of different named perfumes I smelled, they were all nice and cool in different ways but I didn't find any that I really really liked a lot, I did find out what I hated though.
Is there a universal fragrance that can be used for every situation? I feel the Encre Noire could be used for any situation but I may be wrong. I want to explore other options once this one runs out.
>mid 20s
>any season/climate
>low-mid price range if possible
>I like Encre Noire's smell, I think I like woody smell? Hated how cool water smell reminds me of tropical beaches, hated fragrance that smelled like literal dessert food, don't like strong citrus/fruity smell.

Encre Noire is a very solid baby-first "niche" scent that many (including me) have started with. Good job. If you like woody smells but want something more versatile try Essential Parfums Bois Imperial. Get a sample set from them first. This way you will be able to test 7 of their scents, and the money you spend on the sample set can be redeemed when buying a full bottle if BI (or any other of their frags) clicks with you. This way you can test 7 different fragrances basically for free.

now that we aren't in faggot mode anymore: la vie del profumo casablanca
3 notes: Jasmine, cigarette and oriental resins. quite simple and i was a bit worried about the cigarette note but i wanted to give it a try as i just recently watched the movie (the scent is inspired by the movie, not the city) and this frag has absolutely no reviews.
it starts off with all 3 notes present, but the lovely jasmine is dominant at first. it's not a very meaty jasmine, it feels flowery but refined, not overly sweet. i'm not really able to pick apart the oriental resins and the cigarette, they are very well blended together. but i can say that it's not the rancid cigarette smell from real cigarettes. the oriental resins give it a nice touch of warmth and spice. so all in it's a warm and comfortable jasmine frag that is definitely unisex. by the description this could very well be a shitty , cheap and generic flowery oriental frag but it's well composed and feels refined/sophisticated; salaam knows what he's doing. i might buy more if there is a 50% sale but at regular prices it's a bit too pricey.
now the million dollar question: is it like ELDO's jasmine et cigarette? no clue never tried it lol. but looking at the reviews for jasmine et cigarette they don't seem similar at all, apart from the notes. however, the late drydown smelled very similar but i couldn't put my finger on it. after some time it hit me, it smells like parts of thr base notes of aramis new havana. how or why? no clue.

Hello Abdesanon, what a coincidence that I've just mentioned Dubrana right above your post. A funny fact about jasmine is that it was a very prevalent note in 30s-70s for a very simple reason: French have figured out that it goes very well with cigarette smoke. Thus for example; ELDO Jasmine et Cigarette, paying homage to all great jasmine frags of that times. My favourite rendition of this subgenre is probably an all-natural composition by Anna Zworykina - Petals & Ashes.

>is it like ELDO's jasmine et cigarette
Funny thing is that I mentioned it in my post above before I noticed your questions. A collective /frag/ conscious I guess lol. ELDO is good but nothing like Abdes (or Zworykina). It's a toy exercise on waxy, synthetic (but quite good) recreation of the jasmine note. However, I think it would be a valuable exercise to compare it with Casablanca hand in hand to appreciate the latter even more. Dubrana is autistic about the quality of his natural ingredients, so this way you could see all the differences between natural and synthetic jasmine recreation.

It's rather sweet, slightly powdery and not aquatic, unlike what somebody else wrote. It has nothing to do with Cool Water. Roma Uomo by the same perfumer is really close to it, in my opinion, and then there are some similarities to Eros by using a similar vanilla accord. Funnily enough, a lot of complaints on fragrantica have been about the "synthetic" opening, despite the fact that it actually uses real mandarin oil. Performance is insane on me, but I bought it really early. I know nothing of a reformulation, though.

Yes and no. Amber is an abstract smell of, well, amber, and it is your typical resinous-vanillic "oriental" base. It is supposed to mimic the natural ambergris and its complexities, which is a natural smell. Give it a read: https://takeonethingoff.com/blog/2022/02/28/the-attar-guide-ambergris-a-primer/

I took a shower and decided to wear Fume by Henley. It's a rainy summer day here, and it fits the gloomy vibe perfectly. I think I am ready to arrive at the conclusion that I prefer Fume over Norne. The latter is too spicy and heavy on clove. Fume may be less complex but is more woody-coniferous forward.
>>17731012
Amber accord was supposed to recreate the smell of ambergris (a very prominent natural ingredinet). However, the current notion of amber got historically detached (sometime around the "oriental revolution) somewhat from that idea, and instead of salty and other nuances, it rather showcases its warm aspects and very often a big dose of vanilla is added. The amber line of Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier shows these differences quite well. As far as I remember Ambre Dore was more of an ambergris smell and Ambre Precieux and Mythique more of warm, balsamy amber.

>> No.17731097 [DELETED]

>>17731083
I have heard that take before, but it seems that historically it wasn't the case. As a matter of fact, I tried to grate and light up some amber in the past, and it is a hardly fragrant material. What you probably mean is a relatively "fresh" amber, perhaps even collected from a fruit tree. But this is rather a resin and smells like it when used as incense, and is very close from the popularized, abstract "amber" accord used in perfumery.

I don't want to be that guy writing passive-aggressive about reading comprehension, but I have claimed from the beginning that these are different accords (amber is not a material, really). From the said article:
> Amber in modern perfumery is therefore a fantasy composition – an accord – rather than an actual material. It is an abstract idea of warm, honeyed, sweet, and resinous flavors rendered by a combination of labdanum (rockrose extract), vanilla, benzoin, and sometimes copal resin

Every Storm A Serenade is a pretty weird fragrance. It's vaguely aquatic, quite grassy, and really salty. It reminds me of seaweed in that regard, and I don't hate it. What I do hate, however, is the "eucalyptus" note, so quoted because it's a piss poor eucalyptus. It gives the whole fragrance a menthol shroud reminiscent of Vicks jelly, which is neither fitting nor enjoyable. If they removed the eucalyptus and kicked up the ambroxan (you can barely tell it's even there), I think I'd really like it. As it stands though, this is a big fucking disappointment for me.

Home alone, eating shitlone of tuna because of the protein. Watching naked males on youtube and idolize them, am i gay at this point? I'm married.

I have the extreme. it's another nice easy to wear coconut-present scent, but this time more airy and green+spiced rather than oceanic like cool water. I have purchased multiple Issey Miyake scents, and they are all very well done designer french perfumery. affordable, easy to wear, linear so the scent stays consistent throughout, but I think this one also lasts less than a day; it's a fairly lightweight scent.

people here meme on PdM despite the majority of them being excellent, but Kalan has a real sharp black-pepper note up top that's going to be a deal-breaker for anyone that isn't a fan of that specific note. My notes on it were "sharp black pepper. earthy. dirty." 100% get a sample before you buy it. I think luckyscent has it for like $5.

When i smell Kalan I do not think TdH at all. It does not have any stone/flint forward rockiness or any sand/dust notes. It is citrus and pepper with a backing of (and this is what everyone on fragrantica says correctly) Baccarat Rouge. It's like men's Peppery BR540. I appreciate this scent, and I would say it's actually very unique interesting and daring.
