Specifically having a dive watch can be a good idea if you see yourself going to the beach or falling into the water while you're camping or kayaking or fishing or something. Having a daily with 100m water resistance is a good idea but if there's a chance you'll literally be totally submersed in water you'll prefer to have something designed for that.

Personally my dive watch happens to be a GMT with really high water resistance, so it covers me for working out in the water or as a travel watch. It's good to have a watch that does a lot of things well. But if you're a home body that never swims and never flies anywhere I can understand skipping a watch like that.

If you've ever traveled through places that have proper public transport, like Hong Kong or Japan, the train schedules there are accurate to the minute/second and depending on where you are on the island, missing the train could mean waiting a bit for the next because the stations on the outer edges of the island don't get service as frequently as the stations further in for natural reasons.

More people wear watches, thus prove your individual opinion wrong. You do the math. Casio even have calculator watches which are still made by them to this day, so with the fact they're still here, still proving your opinion wrong by they still selling watches to those - that's 'Those' as in the plural - who wear them, I'm sure you can figure out this problem which more than one certain person doesn't have.

maybe what that says is that what standard midwestern-accented english speakers are best able to differentiate is the overall inflection/cadence of sentences, but they fail when they try to capture the nuances on a word or syllable level

I had an Aqua Terra a while ago and it gained 5 to 10s a day. I tried everything to self regulate it: put it on the side during the night, play with the power reserve... I never succeeded to make it run slower.

It's not within spec actually. METAS certification is 0/+5s a day and mine was probably +8 on average. I called the AD they told me they'll test it to see if it needs to be sent back to Omega (with a 2 months wait). Sold it on C24 and got a Rolex.

i like watches
i want to wear watches
i owned a gen aqua terra in the past and it didn’t bring me any more or less joy than owning fakes. in fact, i hated taking it with me when i travelled because it was “something to worry about” - the maintenance also costs as much as buying a new fake or two every five years, you have to keep your insurance updated, figure out how to store them safely, etc.

with fakes i can feel comfortable wearing them without having to worry about them at all. if it gets lost or stolen nobody cares.

and the biggest reason: i can have my dream watch collection, or i can have the same collection (in fakes) with an additional $200K sitting in my investment portfolio - that’s an extra ~$7K in annual lifetime income from investments. why give that up to own a bunch of headaches?
