/btg/ BOOT GENERAL - *GETS RUINED ON FIRST WEAR* EDITION

What do I need to care for my boots?
>Old cotton t shirt (one for cleaning, another for applying conditioners)
>Horsehair brush ($10-15)
>Wooden shoe trees ($10-15)
>Light conditioner like Lexol/Bck4/renovateur
>Heavy conditioner (if you live in terrible snow/rain areas) Sno seal/Obernauf LP
>Don't forget that boots need time to dry properly, rotate them an

How do I deal with x stain?
>mud: allow it to dry then brush off
>salt: water and cloth as soon as possible
>saturated wet: allow the boot to dry for a full day, stuff with newspaper
>scuffs and scratches: buff vigorously with horsehair brush

>Should I buy turdsdays/soloshits/doc shitans?
No they are filled with synthetic materials aimed at instant comfort but will not hold up to actual use.
>b-b-but muh ecelebs on youtube said they're good
no. you will waste your time and money and still have uncomfortable footwear at the end of the day. spend the extra $100 and get something real.

So far my collection consists of a 10+ year old pair of Alden 405's that I bought used but are still going strong, a 5 year old pair of Thursday Captains (Brown) and a 2 year old pair of Thursday Captains (Arizona Adobe). I was looking for something tough that I could beat up and be a little more adventurous with (I have a 2 week trip to Europe this winter that I had in mind while shopping) and the White's MP seemed like the perfect fit.

Unfortunately I'm not to pleased with what I received this week. They are tough like I was looking for and the leather is gorgeous but I honestly feel like far more care was put into the construction of my $200 Thursday boots than these $700 MPs. On both pairs the upper seems to be pulled too far underneath the arch when its stitched down, which looks sloppy in my opinion. On both pairs the stitching on the sole goes right through the lugs and the Dainite logo is cut off which I've never seen before. I tried to capture it in the photos but the sole also bulges out right under the arch which is strange. Everything about the construction seems sloppy and rushed. There are also several scuffs and deep scratches, not the end of the world as I didn't really plan to baby these but I feel like I've seen people on here find seconds in better condition. For the money and the wait I'm pretty disappointed overall.

To top it all off they're easily a full size too large. Which is frustrating after sending in measurements and speaking on the phone about sizing. The toes also seem far more rounded than I was expecting based on the photos I'd seen. That may just be me or the fact that they're far too big but it still stood out.

I'll be reaching out about a return for the sizing and other issues but I would like input on whether or not its even worth trying to get another pair. Should I save my money and grab a pair of Iron Rangers (also on my list), Grant Stones or go for Viberg or something in a similar price range? I do love this style and leather so I'd like something similar if possible and a good boot that will hold up over time.

I have to ask all the Whites fanboys out there. Why not thin out the heel so that there isn't so much extra material in the back? There is no need for it anyway since the stitching isn't 360.

Speaking as someone who started wearing cheap boots and then upgraded to the $600+ tier of boots, it is absolutely worth putting aside that much money for a pair of boots. The quality of the leather and boots construction, as well as the shape of the last is going to make your experience wearing your boots much better. Higher quality leathers will tend to patina much more aesthetically, and you will be able to get multiple resoles throughout the lifetime of the boot. Do not cheap out with a pair of boots. If you do this, you will go through multiple pairs of cheap boots until you come to the realization that spending a little more money at the start really is the better decision. Assuming you're not working fast food, you can manage to budget this within a few months by setting aside $200-300 dollars each month while maybe cutting back on eating out all the time. $600-700 dollars for a pair of footwear that will last you decades really is not a lot of money in the big picture

Winter is months away so technically you do not even need boots right now. Why not just save for like 2-3 more months more then you can afford something more high quality?

Dunno what you can get for 260 dollars but even Iron Rangers seems to be going for 350 dollars right now so you won't even be able to get those. So if I were you I'd at least wait two months more and then you can get yourself a pair of Red Wings, if you can save 100 dollars during that time. If you can save more then you can get something even more high quality than that.

Nice boots, but actually plan on using your tools for a purpose, instead of looking the part. It's the same that can be said with 'old money' or 'stealth wealth' or 'Grey Man', just a facade.

Another thing to note: if you plan to actually fight in warzones and unfortunately kill people for a purpose, then get proper equipment sets for various environments, all compartamentalized and designed to be repaired and kept in long-term storage. A lot of DMS boots are made with PU, which often cracks and dries. the same can be said for those kneepads, as the plastic and rubber dry rots.No synthetics, either. Have naturally treated, repairable equipment available at hand. Think for a while, as I know you can create a venerable armory.

Are Vibergs even resolable at this point? Why use such a tight stiching when its stitchdown and resoles need to be restitched to the upper every time? On a goodyear welted boot it obviously wouldn't matter but the kind of stitch spacing Nicks/Whites uses makes a lot more sense to me if you're gonna be doing stitchdown/handwelted.

I've had these resoled at a local cobbler about 5 years ago with Vibrams. And when I got them I went through and cleaned them pretty good. Saddle soap over all the uppers, disinfectant shoe spray inside, new insoles, and then mink oil. Polished them up a few days later after all the oil soaked in. The original soles were so worn down and curled up they were practically unwearable when I got them. I also have a new pair coming from Kommandostore when they had the presale for new production boots earlier this year. My favorite shit kickers.
