I'm tired of pretending that Zino is somehow a good substitute for Beau de Jour, or the other way around. 17706957

Just got my sample collection of IA frags and figured I'd go through them as I wear them and give y'all my impressions since it seems like some of these get no love.
Firstly, we have Sundrunk, a pleasant summer scent which goes hard on the citrus. It's like an orange sherbet which melts away into a soft floral arrangement. Couldn't tell you what kind of flower, but the website says honeysuckle and rhubarb and I'm inclined to believe them. It's a bit sweet for me but not excessively feminine or cloying. I've had this on about 4 hours today, 3 sprays, and I'm still getting decent performance. Coworker said I smell like an orange grove, which I suppose is appropriate since I live in FL.
Overall pretty good, something I'd wear to the office again or during a day trip, not really appropriate for dates or a night on the town though. I recommend it if you like citrus.

>> No.17706964

how can it be a great scent if it’s so shallow that even pure iso e super has a more legible form? that’s like saying a 30 second ringtone is a great song, or worse, a great symphony. enjoying it for what it is is one thing, but proclaiming it to be greater than it actually manages to be is just rubbish.
>perfumes are extremely personal
preference is personal, greatness is objective. pour un homme is objectively a work of genius, the likes of which is scarcely seen today, if ever. you’re free to dislike it, but denying it as anything short of a masterwork over personal preference is frivolous.

a nice tune, yes. but the olfactory equivalent of a simple melody is a perfumery base. bases are not real perfumes, like how one melody is not a whole song. so tam dao literally speaking does not have enough substance to be a great fragrance, it can be a pleasant scent and in the hands of someone far more competent could be used as part of a legitimate great fragrance, but nothing more.
>if no one could perceive the alleged greatness of caron's PuH due to their personal preferences, then would it still be great

Wrong, i'm whiter than the whitest central european. Movements like Q, underground right wing/left wing extremist cells, alternative media are the reason why my country slowly change from good to worse.
Slowly more and more europeans change from mostly intellects to retards who believe everything from alternative media and automatically disbelieve mainstream media. Literally people without common sense.
You can see it on the streets how people drive tjey cars nowadays in central europe. Ignoring rules, driving like retards(lacking common sense) and more. Sure muslims are included, but wtf underclass whites are able to hold a candle against uneducated muslims.

I'm literally not seeing it, but yeah a lot of their fragrances are kind of mid and a bit synthetic. Except for a couple of them and A City on Fire, unless you find me a fragrance that fills in that niche. I've also been wanting to get some Le Labo but it's so overpriced man. 90 bucks for their sample set and a 50ml bottle is almost 200. Is it really that good? Sounds like a meme to me.

The fact that le labo play these silly games where they sell particular perfumes only at particular stores and so on should give you an idea of what the company is about: marketing exclusivity as the product. It's similar somewhat to Tom ford's whole approach, and frankly I don't want to support this model of perfume as a status symbol, especially when the perfume itself is so often derivative or lackluster. Or at the very least not worth the ludicrous price tag that's being asked. Compare this with Estée Lauders approach of making good perfume as an everyday luxury for women to enjoy (as she did with youth dew etc), a far more democratic approach that lets the perfume take centre stage.

There are too many truly excellent true niche perfumers who are doing good and not obscenely priced work, not to mention the league's of great perfumes you can get cheaply because they have fallen out of style, to justify acquiescing to predatory pricing and marketing.

This all goes doubly for creed, trading on its dubious history and playing silly batchcode games, only to make frankly some of the least interesting male perfumes ever commited to the bottle.

perfume as a status symbol is a really silly concept when you realize that perfumes themselves aren’t nearly as transmissible as ideas compared to something visual like a watch on a man’s wrist or a handbag on a woman’s shoulder. you can’t exactly smell aventus through your screen and identify someone wearing it from across a room (unless they comically overspray it, of course) the same way you can spot someone with a birkin or a royal oak. the people who fall for this stupid shit just end up falling back to visual cues anyways and flexing the bottles (or in the case of le labo using generic bottles, the labels) on instagram and looking like idiots. pretty funny stuff if it wasn’t so sad.

This reminded me of a conversation I had with one of my fake friends the other day. I hadn't seen him in a while and we were catching up. He's a massive western yurop cock sucker and always likes to suck this muslim guy's dick he's acuqntances with because he has money and owns an apartment in Amsterdam or some shit. He wont stop talking about this dude and how he did this and that and it's so much to the point where I get annoyed so I go ok but at the end of the day he's still a raghead. He got mad and his counter argument was that he owns some fragrance that cost 2k and I don't. And I'm like uhh ok? Why would I ever buy a literal fragrance that's 2k? Literally for what? I could buy it if I wanted to, but why? I could buy like 10 different fragrances for that much. Like it's supposed to be a status symbol, but literally nobody would be able to tell it's a 2k fragrance unless he were to tell them, and at that point he'd appear like a bragging sack of shit either way,

Oud mfk: I had good memories about this scent but now I cannot stand it, metallic saffron and a faint oud.
Grand soir: best amber I've ever tried but shit performance , bought the sample to test a current batch.
Baccarat rouge extrait: extremely similar to the original , I have to compare them back to back to tell the differences. Masterpiece but we all know that already

4711, obviously. The only must-have. A 5 liter jug of Turkish Kolonya will achieve the same thing, or a bottle of Jeanne en Provence Neroli Intense. And even then it's more of a "must have smelled" than a "must have". 4711 is the reference citrus-neroli that has been copied into a million products and should be absolutely something everybody has held their nose to.

They raised the price of grand soir a while ago after a huge discount, and now the performance is not what It use to be. I'm not one of those reformulation fags, but I don't want to support these practices, even if sometimes the brand cannot do shit because ifra bans some ingredients. But at that point If they were honest they should either discontinue the fragrance or rename it.

It's a shame because grand soir is extremely beautiful scent, probably the best thing Kurkdjian has ever done, but yeah. In any case I will give it a proper wear and see how it performs

Acqua Di Gio is in this weird place where it's been around since the 90s, but hasn't really gone anywhere
I think many people have got to have some weird associations with that DNA at this point. dated "uncle" smell? check. smells like the 90s? check. smells like an ex-bf? check. smells modern and still popular? also check. smells like a period of your life you left behind? check.

how exactly do you presume the physics of maceration work? it’s not like the bottle is instantly brewed fresh from the factory the second you buy it; the liquid itself has probably been stewing for a while in a temperature controlled container before being bottled, packaged, and transported to who knows what warehouse under who knows what conditions and then shipped globally to yet another warehouse before being transported yet again and stocked at a retailer. that’s weeks, if not months or even years of the just oils sitting around, yet maceration only kicks in AFTER it’s been opened and used over the span of days or sometimes weeks.
