Then your best bet is to buy a watch that is the most assured of retaining its value. If you find you don't like watches, you can always sell it and not lose much, if any, money (or maybe even make money.)

Rolex Submariner, Day-Date, GMT-Master II, and Daytona are all safe bets (though the odds of getting a GMT-Master or Daytona are slim.)
Patek Philippes are expensive but hold their value very well.

Apart from that, it's mostly small, independent watchmakers that are out of your price range (like $60k plus)

Helium escape valve doesnt bother me, i would buy the seamaster diver if i was comfortable spending that much. I was asking because i saw a man wearing what i thought was seamaster professional diver 300m. It had the same bracelet, weavy black or very, very dark blue dial, skeleton hands. The only quartz to have something smoother is seiko's spring drive, which is by default smoothest of all because it doesn't tick. The bulova still ticks, but 16 times a second so double the mechanical swiss standard.

The process of manually winding a watch is not annoying at all. It's 10 seconds in the morning before you put it on.
I actually prefer manual winding to automatic. Manually wound watches are usually thinner (even sports watches). Plus, if you don't want to wear it over the weekend, you can just wind it in the morning on Saturday and Sunday, it will be waiting for you Monday.

With an auto, you have to wear it every day or let it wind down. Yes, I know you can wind an auto manually, but not every automatic movement likes it. Manually winding the 7750 series chronograph movements, for example, always carried a risk of breaking the winding mechanism.

With a manual when it's fully wound, you can feel it hit the stopping point. It just won't go anymore. You'd really have to crank it to break it. It's tougher than you think.

It's fine as a feature, but the space savings are seriously minimal. The reality is that most watches are just thicker than they actually have to be for retarded reasons. My watch, out of the box, was 13.5mm thick. It's now 11.6mm thick.

It's not easy. I try to stick to a specific list of features and style to ensure I don't end up with my own G-Shock store. I don't like selling shit but I was able to downsize by gifting a bunch of watches when I had too many. I have been doing pretty well, last watch I bought was a year and a half ago and I got one as a gift half a year ago. It has helped that G-Shock releases have been really underwhelming recently. There are a few watches in my horizon right now but none of them meet my criteria. The new DW-6600PC-5 is only $100 and one of the best colors they have released in over a year. It's hard to resist but I'm trying to stick to my feature list.
