This is why you need to buy a mechanical watch with some sort of certification (COSC, METAS or brand's own standards). That way, if your watch starts running funny, the AD can't tell you to fuck off.
I really like the Reverso but JLC doesn't even bother to have it COSC certified. Even shitter brands like Christopher Fart or Serica (who use ETA or Soprod movements) manage to do it.

That's because they claim their "1000 hours" program is "better" than COSC etc.

There's also the Geneva Seal's accuracy test where the cased movement is tested once and then 7 days later and there must not be more than 1 minute's discrepancy with a reference clock. Basically no worse than +/-8s/day. Doesn't mean all gensealed watches will do this, as they always seem to be well above this minimum accuracy requirement like how Rolex movements generally always perform better than COSC.
