special edition: submarine rescue
you are chosen to lead an rescue operation for the double digit geniuses who went down to titanic in a home made tin can. what watch are you wearing while on a mission?
>Inb4 rolex deep sea challange
obviously, you are not going to dive there, you are just hanging on the rescue ship, ordering people around and pretending to know what you are doing, so keep with the theme and chose a watch

Ive been contemplating buying 80s-90s seamaster professional quartz for 1000-2000 depending on the condition. What drives me away is I think that the finishing on the vintage vatches is nowhere near good enough on average 500$ watch of today. Also, who would want to sell a watch worth 1000-2000 dollars? Answer is usually a bum with a beat to shit condition watch. You almost never come upon someone who is the original owner, cared for it, kept it in good condition and then decided to sell it. I live in D.C. and the most reputable A.D. in the city is Tiny Jewel Box in Dupont Circle. Top notch service and non pushy sales people but same Rolex shortages as everywhere

in Northern Virginia there’s a Tourneau in Pentagon City that carries a lot of brands but their sales people are typical and often clueless. They do carry brands like Nomos which is nice.

In Tysons Corner you’ll find a mall that has Omega, Breitling, IWC boutiques.

If you like Grand Seikos, Little Treasury Jewelers is in near D.C., in Maryland. It’s the second most important Grand Seiko AD in the country. It gets visits from the GS CEO himself once in a while. They have a ton of Grand Seiko watches you can’t find anywhere else in the country.

It's a look.

In precious metals, it means you're richer, since the bracelet will often cost as much as the watch head itself.
In steel, it looks like a more unified design.

(Of course, a badly designed bracelet is still dogshit.)

But, I agree with you, I prefer straps to bracelets as well.

If you just want to know how a mechanical watch works then the best vid I've seen is this 74 year old explanation from the original American Hamilton watch co. from when they were still top of the world:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rL0_vOw6eCc
No obnoxious music or shitty animations.
Just the facts, clearly presented.

Saw a watch from Citizen in the store today and I can't find it anywhere.

It had the world time like this but a gray case and I'm not sure if it said Eco-Drive on it or had the globe in the background.

That's just based on bullshit rationalization. The most expensive watches will need periodic services and wear fast while being fragile and inaccurate. Tough, rugged watches that need no service and keep perfect time (ie: the best watches) are cheap. People call them "shitter" because they can't fault them with anything.
That's like saying a hand-made horse-drawn cart costing hundreds of thousands is better than a cheap Toyota based on price alone.
