I like it but I'm starting to really like the polar explorer and might trade it in as the price for this model has went up a little bit (i got the last production year.

>Formal events
I don't do those (i am an autistic degenerate and i wfh) but I've been wearing it as my daily driver, the sunburst is really obvious in the day time but at night it just looks like a run of the mill explorer.

Stuck between these two watches. This would be my second time ever buying a watch, with the intention of aesthetic. My first was the Timex Weekender, which I got many years ago, so these are 3-4x the price, and I had originally had a budget of £100, but after seeing what decent watches cost, I doubled it to £200 and these are the two I like in that price range after some research.

Which would people here recommend of the two?

what speed masters are worth the money retail?
Are there chances of getting a watch from an AD that you flip the next day for profit?
Or is that only with a few rolex

I just dont want to buy a watch that is not worth what I paid 12-24 months later.
Im not too picky
I dont know the watch release schedules
I just want 2 nice collectable/wearable watches.
I want a dress watch (never suit jacket, always khaki and long shirt)
and I want a watch I can go snorkeling with thats not too expensive but is still a nice watch.

The snorkeling watch can be an every day watch as well.
as of today im no longer a no watch. I havent wore a watch since 6th-7th grade.

pic is what I bought and now im looking for a 400-2000 dollar water proof watch that can double as an every day. Leather or Steel bracelet is fine.

When I had alot of money, I had zero desire to purchase an expensive watch. I never considered it even once. Now that about 90% of my money is gone, I have a nigh uncontrollable desire to purchase an expensive gold watch. Can someone help me understand this? Is it because I want to show off wealth that I don't have? Is it because I want people to see my expensive gold watch and think, "Wow that guy is so smart and cool and he knows how to make good business decisions!" Is it because after loosing so much money, I think to myself, "I didn't even buy a cool expensive gold watch when I had the money! I'm such an idiot! If I had wasted my money on a watch, at least I would still have a watch." I'm pretty sure that if I ever become wealthy again that I won't want to buy or wear an expensive watch.

My peak net worth was above $600k in crypto. I made it by working and investing in crypto. I lost about 90% of it by investing in other crypto projects that failed and by leveraged trading. At one point I cashed out alot of it into physical gold, and I consider that to be a good decision because gold is illiquid and it takes alot of effort to sell it and do something stupid with the money. Anytime I lost alot of money, I would think, "I didn't even buy gold before losing the money." So maybe that's the origin of my desire for an expensive watch. I keep thinking "I didn't even buy an expensive watch when I easily could have."

Did my research on watchuseek and there's a bunch of Japanese seller names that are being vouched by Western buyers.

That said this was a total leap of faith, but just like what >>17677932 said, Spring Drive is hard to fake. The closest movement counterfeiters can use though to replicate it is using the movement Citizen uses for the Bulova Precisionist but as you can see here, there's a very noticeable difference between the two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MDyhJ1UfEs.. The Precisionist still has a feel that looks closer to a sweep, whereas the SD is a full hover. The hover instead of sweep description people came up with for the Spring Drive really is accurate.

What sealed it for me though was the Zaratsu polish, this was my first exposure to this since I've never encountered it before, one of the experts I talked to that first brought it up told me that it's not exclusive to GS, Citizen watches also do them too, I just haven't seen said watches in person until this one.

If you're doing eBay, just google the seller and they usually pop up on watchuseek if they're reputable, JP watch resellers just tend to have ridiculous names for some reason. After googling, mine turned out to be a jewelry company hence why it was brand new, I just don't know why they listed it as pre-owned.

>Once the occupants are aboard, the hatch is closed and bolted from the outside; there is no way to open the hatch from inside the vessel. In addition, there is no on-board navigation system; the support ship, which monitors the position of Titan relative to its target, sends text messages to Titan providing distances and directions.
>Journalist David Pogue, who rode in Titan to view the Titanic in 2022, noted that Titan was not equipped with an emergency locator beacon; during his expedition, the surface support vessel lost track of the Titan "for about five hours, and adding such a beacon was discussed. They could still send short texts to the sub, but did not know where it was. It was quiet and very tense, and they shut off the ship's internet to keep us from tweeting."

yeah, "the gay community" is like 3% of gays, it's just a stupid euphemism for dysfunctional people with no standards, who have compulsive casual sex with a different anonymous partner each night, like the piss orgy meme guy. in reality most gay people are attracted to attractive men and are somewhat selective about their partners, and when/where they will have sex, there is no "the community" because they haven't all had sex with each other.

the perception that "real gay people" are promiscuous sex freaks is responsible for a lot of guys not figuring out that they're gay until surprisingly late in life. they think "gay" means being that piss orgy guy, and if they're not that piss orgy guy, then they're obviously not gay. they compartmentalize in retarded ways and end up trying to larp as straight guys until they leave their wife in their fifties after realizing "gay people" really did mean them.

>> No.17678062

IIRC until Zelos rereleased the Ember Orange, I was considering the Signum Cuda due to the same color scheme(orange during daylight, becomes yellow at night due to the lume) and the one common complaint I see about their watches is the bezel feel, it supposedly feels cheap.

Besides that, they feel like the American version of Zelos since they go for the same gimmicks(crystal, MOP, heavy use of lume, etc).

The reason why I'm not bothered about the complaints about Signum's bezels is that 1) who the fuck ever uses dive indicators these days and 2) there are actually people who prefer the crunchy sensation of bezels instead of smooth.

they're a level below Cadisen in the <$100 bracket. If you don't care about waiting 2 weeks, you're better off buying them directly from Aliexpress for potentially lesser than what's shown on Amazon.

It doesn't take a lot to make watches these days, even moreso when Miyota 8000s and NH35 is easily attainable and people are fine with the latter's -20/+40 since it's "still within COSC specifications".

The ones that do give a fuck though would be going for Miyota 9000 series, which is what San Martin and Pagani Design have been doing recently.

>> No.17678079

>>17678076
The paganis and sanmartens upgraded to miyotas seem to be $100-200 more compared to the NH35s.

>> No.17678081

>>17678079
Which is somewhat justifiable since the Miyota 9000 series tend to be at $80-90, I'm sure they get them discounted since they order by bulk but I'd assume for large orders, it would still probably be around $40-50 per movement.

That said it's a worthy tradeoff because Citizen brought fire with this series. It's achieving Sellita/ETA accuracy with just 1/4th the price of those movements.

I can respect what they're doing, but I don't think it's a good idea since they're trying to do microbrand strategies minus the creativity attached to microbrands since they use superior materials like Titanium and Sapphire but they mainly do homages, whereas microbrands don't need to do that since they've got room to be more creative in terms of materials and dials.

>> No.17678099

>>17678087
Yea which doesn't really inspire me much, I can kinda see why they're reliant on homages since I don't think they have an R&D that works on design specifically.

The problem with San Martin and Pagani's approach is that even a person who's an amateur with horology knows about the trifecta for watches(Titanium/Sapphire/A reliable movement), what makes it worth it is the intrinsic value of the watch, and that usually requires a touch of artistry, a good example of this is how Max Bill watches cost as much as they do because they also come signed with an autograph in the watch itself, the autograph is the X-factor and is what gives it it's intrinsic value.

Personally, I think it should be openable, for at least access to a quick and painless death, because dying slowly from asphyxiation/starvation/dehydration is far worse than dying from pressure. I remember from the Piccard entries that despite hearing portholes crack, they know what's going to kill them is the one that they don't get to see or hear so at least the deaths were going to be painless since it was going to be instantaneous, can't say the same for the three I mentioned prior.

nta but I don't think you understand how these watch theft gangs work. It's not "tyrone on the street". They have people in clubs/bars where wealthy people go, trained to look out for specific watches. These are usually young women, cocktail waitresses etc who can get close to the marks and see the watches up close. These women are not hodinkee spergs, they're a friend or cousin or a friend of a friend who happens to be young and hot. The spotters have enough space in their empty little heads for about a dozen target watches and I can promise you, nobody gives a fuck about Sinn. It's not even that it's "not worth the risk", it's why bother training them to look out for a Sinn when every night there's 50 guys with much fancier watches. It's going to come down to, should we wait for the guy with an entourage with the richard mille, or should we settle for the guy with the submariner.

So the waitress messages the gang that she sees something good, she snaps some photos so they know who their target is, and they wait outside in a BMW or a Mercedes (it is almost always one or the other). When they're in a comfortable spot several guys get out with guns, they relieve the mark of his watch, and everyone goes home happy. The really dumb ones will target two clubs in one night but that's a nearly perfect way to get caught, the police are on to them. Once a week is about right.

enough of a network of watch repair guys arose that there's still a ton of them around doing third world repair jobs on the mechanical wristwatches that are still around
collector autism hasn't taken hold, or is not considered important (keep in mind the obsession with originality is a relatively new thing even in the west)
also it's a fucking seiko 5, there is nothing to depreciate

personally I think it's cool and I wish we had watch guys like that in the west, considering how many old seiko 5s and other shitters just get abandoned forever because it's not worth the cost of repairing them the proper way

Seiko 5's were created by Seiko for the third world market.
The 5 was ref to the 5 points that the watch had to have:
>day/date
>shock resistant
>water resist
>cheap
>automatic
They were designed when quartz was hot, expensive shit and you had better chance of finding a watchmaker in sub-saharan africa or somewhere in SEA than a replacement battery. Although really they were never meant to be serviced, just worn until the the movements eventually ground themselves into dust.
My father's driver had the same 5 on his wrist for 20 years; never serviced. He only replaced it when the crystal cracked. He was never late.
On the other hand my brotherinlaw's mother's rolex was on her wrist for 25 years and never needed servicing either. And when she finally brought it into a rolex service center she was charged a basic flat rate, the same one she'd have been charged if she'd brought it in during the "recommended service interval" bullshit.
It's a scam, a con, and you'll hear watch repairmen talk about it on yt.

No, I'm a stickler for accuracy specifically and the reason why I wasn't that impressed with the whole "You only have to set it once every 100 years" speech they did was that it still felt like a bit of a lie. The virtue of it being mechanical means that you'll still have to set it then occasionally due to the time variance associated with mechanical watches.

Ultimately, it's also a bit Freudian. My dad would flex his $30k Rolex Explorer and his Patek Philippe in gatherings with Spanish diplomats yet he couldn't even be assed to contribute contribute or care for me growing up. If this jlc slides under you shirt cuff/coat cuff nobody's going to know it's gold.

Many watchmakers will give out extracts if you request them. It's basically all the info about a watch based on its serial number. So in this case the watch may well have supposed to have been a black dial, but something got mixed up when it was made. The dial maker could have sent over these blue ones by mistake, or something else, again who knows.

Thoughts? Mixed reviews, feels weird spending $200 on a timex, but I love it.

No honestly. I wear the speedmaster about 60 percent of the time because it's more comfortable, another 25 percent is the seamaster and the rest is everything else

Wasn't Omega involved in a scam recently with an 'extremely rare' vintage watch that they tried to buy for their museum from some chink at an auction but it turned out that it was the museum director that actually made the frankenwatch and tried to sell it and convinced Omega it was a good idea to spend 3 million bucks on and also fabricated some of these 'archive extracts'?
