Reposting my question from the previous threads:
>What are some fun watches to buy under $200?
Could be from microbrands, regular brands, or even chinese bootlegs, as long as they look fun.
I really don't want to buy swatch, they feel too boring for me, nothing really going on for them aside from some hideous paintjob.

On a scale of 1-10, how lucky am I if my 66€ Chinese Cadisen with a Miyota 8215 movement has an accuracy of about +2s a day ? And for how long can I expect the same accuracy ? I read somewhere that since this movement is pretty cheap, it's not worth servicing it.

im about to buy 3 Bulovas for 3 people

Im thinking 2 Marine Stars and what other watch would you choose?
Prefer something from JC Pennys website seeing as how these are gifts.
Early High School Grad gifts for a 15 and 17 year old.
I think giving one a blue and one a black Marine Star is ideal since we live near the ocean
But I want a nice third option that Ill keep for myself if they dont want to trade

To add: Find a mall or a few watch stores that have watches within your budget in your area, go there yourself to make sure, look around, find something for yourself as well, but don't buy it yet. Then one day pack them in a car and tell them you're going watch shopping. Make an event out of it, treat them like kings, make them feel special, so that every time they look at the watch they will be subconsciously reminded of the good times they had and will appreciate you and the watch more.

Consider the Heritage Classic line, either this tuxedo model or the other one with the speckled creme dial and blue hands that's some WW2 pilot's watch.
No where near worth the retail prices though.

My microrotor microshitter just got here and I guess they're going for the full vintage experience because it's flimsy as hell. And am I wrong to assume a microrotor doesn't spin as well when it's not something as heavy as gold? Because it seems like it's just sitting there, and hand winding makes me feel like I'm starting a lawnmower. Point is I should have just gotten a hand wound 36mm Stowa or something.

Ball is really cool but a lot of their watches are thick for what you get because the dial needs extra depth so the tritium tubes can clear each other, and a lot of people don't like the way the bracelets look. There are a couple simpler models that are around 12mm and a little under if you look around. But they have some interesting movements, they made a watch that has a working mechanical thermometer in it. If that kind of weird novelty is your thing that might be worth checking out. Tritium noticably dims over the course of 20-30 years, but if you're at an age where you're not even sure you're going to live much longer than that maybe that doesn't even matter to you.

Ball are cool

In 1881, two trains collided head on in Kipton, Ohio, killing eight people. The cause of the crash was attributed to the watch of an engineer, which had, unbeknownst to him, stopped for a period of several minutes. The resulting miscalculation resulted in the deadly accident – and prompted significant changes in the field. Webb C. Ball was appointed chief time inspector, and proceeded to implement strict guidelines for the manufacturing and reliability of the timepieces used by engineers and conductors. Testing now called for reliability of timekeeping in five positions including isochronism, power reserve and dial arrangement.

His guidelines resulted in the broad acceptance of standards establishing accuracy and uniformity, and birthed the “Official Railroad Standard” and was even used by COSC as the basis for their certification system.

Ball watches from the early 20th century used movements from top American manufacturers, such as Elgin, Hamilton, and Waltham, before switching to Swiss Avia movements in the early '40s. Many watch companies producing movements at this time, both American and Swiss, adopted Ball's strict set of standards in their own watches.

>Tritium noticably dims over the course of 20-30 years
The degradation is notable within the first decade *of manufacture*, remember those tubes don't just magically activate when you take the watch out of the store/box. Buy something that's been sitting in a shop window for 3 odd years? That's 3 fewer years you have with a certain level of brightness.
>>17676855
I like the idea behind some of their watches, and the idea of a moonphase with an actually glowing moon is goofy and I like it. However the above thing about tritium in general kind of puts me off.
They also refresh their lineup too often. There was some instance I read one where a ball owner wanted to get the tubes replaced so that their dim shit was good again, an endeavor that's already expensive in and of itself since they charge like 60 bucks per microtube or something.
They didn't have any parts
>sorry we stopped making that model too bad so sad fuck off
I wouldn't want to spend any real money on their stuff.

They have 2 apparent innovations that piqued my interest but nobody ever talks about them and nobody else in the industry does it so it makes me wonder if it's actually effective or just another gimmick. Something to do with aiding in shock-resistance in automatic movements. I have a feeling it's a big nothingburger otherwise this would've been utilized by someone else already.

Depends on your use case.
The only people who could truly unhappy with a proper application of C3 or BCW9 superluminova or it's variants (lumibrite/chromalite etc.,) are probably cave divers or maybe someone that works underground. In ever other instance tritium tubes are a meme. How many hours do you think you'll be subjected to absolute darkness? Normal lume, good normal lume like c3 etc., should be visible for at least 8hours. It doesn't need to be a torch to be perfectly visible in darkness or low light.
All that remains is preference for a rainbow of colors that trit can provide whereas luminova's limited to a green or blue glow as being the only usable colors. Every other color of stronium aluminate mix is absolute trash except for the classic green or pale blue.

One thing ball has that others don't are very classic dressier models that actually have lume on them; not many brands I can think of that do that. Do you want or need lume on such a style though?

Everyone I've met who owns a ball bought it because
>muh AMERICAN HERITAGE watch
a few, despite even the customary "swiss made" at the bottom of the dial thought it was an american made watch. People are fucking retarded, but ball was clever targeting and feeding off the americana heritage grift as it seems to have worked. I suppose the difference between these happygolucky fucks is that they're happy in their ignorance, whereas I'm unhappy posting on this shitty faggot board on a stupid clown website because there's nowhere else to go.

Ball has in some of their diver models the following features of dubious efficacy:
>"Amortiser" shockproof system
>"SpringLOCK" and "SpringSEAL" systems ensure continued accuracy in the event of shocks
I think the springlockseals are external toggles that allow you to lock the rotor in place so that it doesn't swing around wildly when you're doing presumably some james bond larp-tier shit. No idea what the amortizer does. If these actually do something then that's actually neat. The only other brand that specifically makes a point of shock protection for a mech is RM.

>Everyone I've met who owns a ball bought it because muh AMERICAN HERITAGE watch
if you're truly curious, go onto reddit or wus and search Ball and comb through the tripe and you'll find people waxing lyrical about how they bought it because of the American historical connection.
Salesmen in malls will have it as part of their routine pitch.
It helps sell watches that might otherwise not sell.

Some brands have heritage but not quality, eg 90% of swatch group shitters.
Some have quality but no heritage or "fake" heritage like the aforementioned Lange or Moser or any of the smaller independents.
Some brands have neither and very few have both.
And in some cases like the montblanc the heritage is in the wrong field and that works against them
>Montblanc? The pen company? Why the fuck would I buy a watch from a pen company?
and the quality, despite being high, doesn't matter.

With watch brands, more than any other kind of jewelry imo, "heritage" actually matters quite a bit. I wonder why that is? I mean sure 99% would appreciate plain gold wedding band more if it had a cartier, or tiffany or whatever hallmark on it, but you'd not be unhappy with a generic gold band in general, provided it was the same gold content.
But with watches the whole package sold to consumers involves heritage I guess, which is why companies resort to fabricate it when it isn't there or stretching tenuous links that might as well not exist etc.

I just noticed my grail watch was sold recently. There was only one, on watchfinder, with the case material + dial color + complications I wanted for a very reasonable price. In a way I feel relieved, at the same time I wonder if I'll ever get another shot at buying one in the next few years, probably never at that price that's for sure. If it didn't matter or factor into enough consumers' purchasing habits why do companies make such a deal of it? Why did the lot that rejiggered Lange not just call it a new name? Why'd they go to such lengths to peg themselves to a long forgotten German brand instead of just starting fresh? Same with Moser, or Czapek?
Because there's no way they could justify the prices they charged with a fresh name.
The lie was necessary to fool people into paying the high prices that were actually "earned" by actual heritage brands
>but muh finishing quality is tops
yes yes I know, but so should you know that the prices people pay is not anywhere near considerate or equivalent to the actual quality of an item. How well finished is a steel Rolex Daytona? Can get a slew of gold Geneva seal'd watches for the street price of one of them, or a Lange for that matter.

RZE is a Singaporean microbrand, it's a breakaway group from Boldr Supply Co., another Singaporean microbrand, which is the reason why their watch designs are very similar to Boldr's.

They make quality watches, but rule of thumb with microbrands is that if it's based in Singapore, they're top tier. The other two I that I know of is Vario and Zelos, the former specializes in making watches that have the WWI era aesthetic while using modern movements and superior materials while the latter is probably considered the most popular to the point that it's either dealing with counterfeits now(surreal for a microbrand) to being scalped on eBay for $200 more than the RRP.

Roughly 8.3" wrist. I grabbed an a4 piece of paper and wrapped it width side around my wrist and it slightly overlapped, so not scientific.

I'm looking for something for everyday wear. I currently own a Timex Weekender with a couple different Nylon straps. The thing I like about the nylon straps is that I can change them easily. I used to own a Seiko many years ago with a bracelet strap and I liked that too, although I don't remember the model.

I'm attempting to 'class up' my fits in general with a complete overhaul of my wardrobe. I generally wear gymgear predominantly because I'm a gym rat, so I have a pretty muscular physique, but I want to go for a more 'Quiet Luxury' style in mens fashion that's making the rounds currently. It has a ton of overlap with the aesthetic I wish to base my fits around so that's the best I can say.

IMO, if you want something relatively subdued and "classy" that you can wear with basically everything and don't have to worry about is to go with quartz. Citizen Eco-drive (solar powered). Bracelet options because you don't like leather.\
Look up for example ref.

Yeah look around at all watches and brands no matter the cost in order to settle on a general style you want and then ask again and someone might be able to provide a more exact alternative within your budget. They operate similarly to Supreme so each model has a set release date and a set amount. As for the cool aspect, they were pretty much the first microbrand that popularized exotic mix and match ideas for dials and metal used.

If you want a fair shot at getting oos models at a fair price, I suggest joining their Facebook group. They actually tend to resell the watches a very reasonable cost, got a few over there for like 40% less off the RRP and the group in general is rabid against scalpers.
