After thinking hard about it, they're selling this Prospex line solely on the power reserve, since 6r64 would've been the better movement to use for this series, but they already use that on the hybrid Presage/Prospex line so it's either they cornered themselves or if that one Anon is right, they're using Orient to take over the budget diver niche that used to belong to the Seiko 5 as the Seiko 5 moves up to the Prospex's former price point.

I feel like steel is the most basic default material.
A watch isn't cool for being steel, I'm eating right now and the fork is steel, you get the cool special points for being anything other than steel, black PVD, ceramic, titanium, carbon fiber they all make your watch look different and special. SS just makes your watch look like a fork.

Also why the fuck isn't silver a thing? Silver irl looks incredible, it's so white it looks like it's glowing next to anything else. Where are the silver watches?

I'm not sure how I feel about bronze watches. I'm happy for people who get a patina on them that they like but I'd think it must be difficult to make them look right for your strap and your outfit and for the occasion. Like in the case of the picture, we have a watch that looks like it spent 100 years on the bottom of the ocean on a fairly new minimally distressed nylon strap. What do you wear this with, and where do you wear it? If you're taking a boat out into the bay that could be pretty cool. But what if you're going to dinner or going to the supermarket and you kinda just look like you're wearing a busted ass watch? It doesn't even look like an heirloom really.

What people don't understand about the black PVD is that it actually is highly scratch resistant.

It's a very high hardness coating that wouldn't be scratched by wiping it with a cloth that has a speck of dust on it, or sand or you know whatever actually gets things scratched.

You can however score it if you impact it on something hard strongly enough and that will expose the steel underneath making it super visible.

But as far as the scratches go?
The coating is almost as hard as sapphire.

Because In the 1960s everything was "good enough" with no brand placement (Rolex declined to provide a watch for the early films). Bond wears a sub in the first two films on a leather strap, and then in Goldfinger that scene requires him to be shown wearing the watch in a wetsuit and then a tuxedo, that wasn't possible with a leather strap so they likely just searched for something to do the job and the ill fitting nylon strap (it's not a NATO) was good enough, even if it didn't fit the watch.

Or, the watch belonged to the producer who loaned it for filming one day when they were in sudden need and the adjusted bracelet didn't fit Connery so they scrounged for a quick and easy replacement they knew nobody watching the film would give a shit about.
One or the other.
Little did they know that nearly 60 years later a totally not homosexual poster on the gayest board of a buttsexperience mailing list would catch their mistake and call them out on it in a stunning and never before exhibited example of acute cinematical observation.

anyone had any experiences with the San Martins on the fly adjustment clasp? it's not universal, only fits select models and comes by default on even less models
from the pictures and couple of videos, it seems amazing, considering the fact that you can't get anything like that on under 1k watches, the clasp itself is like 40€

pic related gets me plenty of compliments. 3 things people always point out are "clean design," "stands out," and "good size." It's 36mm, ~35$ amazon, and I bought it for work. I wear it everywhere now. I wore it with my Zegna suit. fukkn sleek.

Guys at work have much larger, pricier, and ornate watches. I've asked them if they get compliments, and they've all answered, "uh, yeah, sometimes." In reality, nah, they're lying. No one's commented.

Truth is that the average person will look past the pricey watch and find a tryhard wearing it. People will compare the price of the watch with the person's line of work, and think, "showoff." There's nothing rich or refined about looking desperate.
