I didn't believe that would be the name of the watch, I thought that must be the company's cope version of superlative chronometer.

Extremely small sample sizes, notwithstanding, I know two guys with Reversos and both of them have engravings. One is the guy's initials and another is a message from his wife (she gave him the watch for their 10th anniversary)

San Martin cheapo GMT with or without the sterile dial? I like the little “gmt automatic” text down at the bottom, but the San Martin logo isn’t super aesthetically pleasing.

I could go either way. The San Martin logo isn't the worst but a lot of people don't like it and people who see it might wonder what the fuck it is and google it and find out how destitute you are. But the no logo dial looks like something is missing and you could argue it looks even more suspicious. On some models instead of the applied box logo they just have the name written out in script, and it's still a goofy name but at least it has a little bit of a classier look.

1) Sterile dials are awful design-wise, save for a few exceptions.
The San Martin logo is only a little less awful, but still ruins everything when it's applied.
Spend $30 more and get a custom printed dial from them.

2) For a GMT, a date is the way to go. It's not as if you liked a GMT watch for its symmetry.

3) The people who would judge you for a San Martin will judge you all the same for a Lorier. Just buy what you like most.
But make sur that you like it.

I wouldn't say that it broke it for me, but it certainly made me reconsider a purchase I've wanted to make for a few years.
It's true though that they do put more effort into the movement finishing compared with the analogous Patek, which still costs more.
The question is priorities: when you're spending real money on a piece of jewelry like this, what matters most?
If you wanted your money's worth from the material product then the Lange probably wins out. But you don't spend more than a Casio's worth on a basically obsolete time telling device purely on the material measures, there's those other considerations like brand history, "heritage", the whole mystique that Lange tries to imply but doesn't actually have.
One thing about Lange that differentiates them from the rest of the Richemont group is that, being German, they're not as controlled or prone to "sharing" as the Swiss bound brands are.

For example: when Vacheron "designed" their first in house movements in a long time about 15 odd years ago it wasn't a VC team of movement engineers that did it, it was all basically JLC guys sent over to VC.
Lange, being German to the core, doesn't have this crisscrossing or (over)reliance on JLC.

I had heard years ago that the service times for basically all Richemont group brands was abysmal, but Lange, being separated from the herd, was far better and more discerning. I remember taking my boss's grand complication JLC to get fixed and that not only took forever but it also came back with flaws; anecdotes of this kind of sloppiness abound in watch forums.
Lange seems to fare better.
They also churn out far fewer watches than comparable Swiss names do too.

It all goes into the calculation, but at the end of the day you'd better buy what you like the look of. You're not going to want to wear something you don't like looking at even if it had all the heritage in the world.
