Any recommendations for watches with dials similar to this? (Guinard Flight Officer) Looking for something that comes with a date complication and steel bracelet.

I like the look of it, but would prefer something 37mm-40mm diameter. Already looked at the Longines Spirit and Sinn 556.

Budget around $2500.

What is the name of this watch? I'm trying to find it on the website and as usual they take the retarded approach of hiding all the watches behind generic genres of watches and you have to guess whether the watch you're looking for is a pilot watch or a sports watch or a vintage watch (apparently it's none of those.)

Thanks, I ended up finding it using the search drop downs. That's the faux vintage faded version, the one posted before it a little more expensive and the name is actually super precision. I didn't believe that would be the name of the watch, I thought that must be the company's cope version of superlative chronometer.

Do you know anything about this adolph movement? I've never heard of it before. But I was disappointed to find they're selling a sport watch for over $800 with mineral crystal and only 50m water resistance. Literally San Martin chinese shit with Japanese movements has better specs than this for lower prices.

Honestly it would be really great if Tudor did more unique colors and stuff to set themselves apart from rolex and add more value to the brand rather than making genuinely inferior watches like the ridiculously thick GMT so their products can never be more than cope rolexes. Like if they made dive watches with purple bezels and GMTs with yellow and blue bezels and offer a bunch of different colors for bb36 and ranger dials, rolex doesn't really have a lot of variety like that.

There's not that many Reversos out there and lots of them are Duofaces anyway.

Extremely small sample sizes, notwithstanding, I know two guys with Reversos and both of them have engravings. One is the guy's initials and another is a message from his wife (she gave him the watch for their 10th anniversary)

The other anon who talked about re-sale wasn't wrong, though. Selling a used Reverso is pretty simple. It's a desirable watch. If it's got someone else's name on it, though, that makes it much less desirable.

Honestly, even the basic penis quartz offer good performance. If you're looking for absolute top shelf stuff, you're not going to get it from any vintage model. If you're happy with maybe losing a minute a year, which doesn't matter because you'll be adjusting for DST every 6 months anyway, all that matters is the styling. If I had to pick one, it'd be the double penis, because it comes in a day/date.

The Lange 1 is one of the most iconic dress watches of the last 30 years. You might as well try to criticize the Datograph - they’re both sacrosanct to most watch enthusiasts. The Odysseus is perceived fairly or not as a trend-chasing piece that came out while Nautilus and Royal Oak prices peaked and attracted lots of undesirables to the brand, along with a lot of nasty waiting list and application shenanigans. Bringing this thread to the far other end of the price spectrum, so we can stop arguing about stuff that nobody on a Peruvian dolphin-taming forum will ever own:

San Martin cheapo GMT with or without the sterile dial? I like the little “gmt automatic” text down at the bottom, but the San Martin logo isn’t super aesthetically pleasing.
Second, all else being equal, date wheel or no date wheel?
Third - should I really just save up an extra few hundred and buy a Lorier?
Normies aren’t gonna know the difference between brands anyway, and it seems like watch enthusiasts are going to judge anything under 1k no matter what

I could go either way. The San Martin logo isn't the worst but a lot of people don't like it and people who see it might wonder what the fuck it is and google it and find out how destitute you are. But the no logo dial looks like something is missing and you could argue it looks even more suspicious. On some models instead of the applied box logo they just have the name written out in script, and it's still a goofy name but at least it has a little bit of a classier look.

First of all it shouldn't be there at all because power reserve indicators are fucking retarded. They probably could have saved the space on the dial, saved the space in the movement, put in a micro rotor to make it automatic and still had a watch under 10mm thick.

Second, no, it takes up half the fuckin dial. Literally why? A totally useless complication takes up half of the fucker.

3rd, big date is gay, and along with having the small seconds off to the side and the retarded power reserve above that all looking like separate modules makes it look like a wall clock your dad made in the garage with a bunch of smaller clocks. So much wasted space on the dial for no reason because this hodgepodge of devices don't fit together.

The San Martin logo is only a little less awful, but still ruins everything when it's applied.
Spend $30 more and get a custom printed dial from them.

2) For a GMT, a date is the way to go. It's not as if you liked a GMT watch for its symmetry.

3) The people who would judge you for a San Martin will judge you all the same for a Lorier. Just buy what you like most.
But make sur that you like it.

On 8 May 1945, the last day of the war, the Lange headquarter and main production building was almost completely destroyed in a Soviet air raid. The Glashütte watch companies were nationalized in 1948. At the time, Lange was working on a new movement: Caliber 28, a wristwatch format of the caliber 48. It went into production in 1949 as the last movement developed by A. Lange & Söhne. Watches from this period were signed “Lange VEB” (Volkseigener Betrieb - publicly owned enterprise). When the seized watch companies were merged in 1951 to form VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, the Lange name disappeared from the dials.

it doesn't clarify if they actually produced anything (even if it was under different name) from ww2 to 90s. the fact that they didnt clarify it makes me think they havent (or it was beyond shit). if that is true then lange truly is fake company and that sucks because some of their stuff is really nice

anon, lange is the brainchild of a former director of iwc and the richemont group
they smelled easy money in restarting a muh heritage german brand and dragged walter lange out of a fucking nursing home to lend their startup a air of legitimacy
now, the actual designs and the movement designs are unmistakably germanic; as in the lange movements follow old lange pocketwatch conventions that were the fashion among german watchmakers pre-ww1
but it's still not lange
lange died and a new firm was started decades later with the same name
yet they want to charge prices commensurate with brands like patek, vc, ap that aren't mere "phoenix brands".
are they bad? no
in many ways they're better
BUT they can't justify that pricing based off the intangibles they don't have that the others do

another thing that kinda annoyed me about lange, besides the whole richemont slave thing, is that they're basically just a movement maker; as in every single other component is not made by them but is outsourced to other german or swiss firms and then assembled and perhaps finished in house
case, dials, hands - the works
lange just makes the movements
sure many companies outsources specialty things like dials etc., but everything but the movement?
I dunno about all that

True. But would you rather know this before spending 20k on a Lange instead of 20k on a VC, or a PP or AP? I think that if more people were aware of this they would take pause. It's one of those factors that go into buying this shit particularly when it concerns these ancient brands. It's just like the whole fabricated Lange heritage thing. It doesn't have to be logical, but if would affect peoples' perceptions and probably their purchasing habits if this kind of stuff were more well known.
The Swiss brands mentioned are patchy as well, but they do make more than just the movement in-house.

Of course this kind of shit didn't matter last century, but now everyone wants everything in-house, and the firms that can boast this are in a more favorable position in this respect.

i didnt know all that. lets just say that i now have a much bigger respect for independent manufacturers. on one hand i guess the fact that lange doesnt have as strong historical background as patek for example forces them to be that much better when it comes to product itself. but is slightly better finish under microscope that you wont ever see worth more than heritage that comes with patek?
>another thing that kinda annoyed me about lange, besides the whole richemont slave thing, is that they're basically just a movement maker; as in every single other component is not made by them but is outsourced to other german or swiss firms and then assembled and perhaps finished in house
case, dials, hands - the works
lange just makes the movements
sure many companies outsources specialty things like dials etc., but everything but the movement?
didnt know this either. it really breaks the brand for me if true. it feels like they all got together so they can make watches at the absolute lowest cost and then charge it the same as again for example patek. it makes their watches that much less special and while i welcome "grouping" if it results in superior product in automobile, computer, mobile industry if i were in market for high end watch i would like it to be special. i guess you cant get that from massive organization like richemont

>they smelled easy money in restarting a muh heritage german brand and dragged walter lange out of a fucking nursing home to lend their startup a air of legitimacy
lmao i almost spit my drink when i imagined it

>it really breaks the brand for me if true.
I wouldn't say that it broke it for me, but it certainly made me reconsider a purchase I've wanted to make for a few years.
It's true though that they do put more effort into the movement finishing compared with the analogous Patek, which still costs more.
The question is priorities: when you're spending real money on a piece of jewelry like this, what matters most?
If you wanted your money's worth from the material product then the Lange probably wins out. But you don't spend more than a Casio's worth on a basically obsolete time telling device purely on the material measures, there's those other considerations like brand history, "heritage", the whole mystique that Lange tries to imply but doesn't actually have.
One thing about Lange that differentiates them from the rest of the Richemont group is that, being German, they're not as controlled or prone to "sharing" as the Swiss bound brands are.

For example: when Vacheron "designed" their first in house movements in a long time about 15 odd years ago it wasn't a VC team of movement engineers that did it, it was all basically JLC guys sent over to VC.
Lange, being German to the core, doesn't have this crisscrossing or (over)reliance on JLC.

I had heard years ago that the service times for basically all Richemont group brands was abysmal, but Lange, being separated from the herd, was far better and more discerning. I remember taking my boss's grand complication JLC to get fixed and that not only took forever but it also came back with flaws; anecdotes of this kind of sloppiness abound in watch forums.
Lange seems to fare better.
They also churn out far fewer watches than comparable Swiss names do too.

It all goes into the calculation, but at the end of the day you'd better buy what you like the look of. You're not going to want to wear something you don't like looking at even if it had all the heritage in the world.

just get a watch without a date window: cleaner dial, no date advancement
